I use a 3 gallon bucket for water, and I’ve trained mine from the beginning to feed himself. He doesn’t eat anymore than he needs. Most people think they’ll over eat, and get fat, but not true ! He eats less when he’s inactive, and more when he’s active. The dry dog food is what’s making them gassy. My Bruno is 13, has always been healthy, and never over, or under weight. I do feed him scraps, and raw foods as well. Feeding and watering them can be minimized as far as work for you. He actually uses his dog food as a supplement to the human food he gets. Never had any issues with his health, but never let them near brownies, or any chocolate ! Mine got ahold of a pan of brownies, and had explosive diarrhea all over my front door, and surrounding walls because I didn’t get there quick enough to let him out ! Trust me, that is not a mess you want to clean up, lol ! And I’ve raised three kids ! I hope they’re still doing fine Jon !?
Jon Williams hi, just out of interest what would they do if someone they knew but didn't live at the house just walked in the door. ie would they be aggressive or be OK because they had already met?
Tyler Durden they would be fine. I have a couple of mates who I call on if I have to work away. They house sit for me & look after my dogs. occasionally I'm not back in time from work & I call them to go in to feed them. Never had a problem
So I've been thinking of getting one of these awesome looking dogs, but just have a few questions for you: 1. How bad is the drooling? Can it be somehow managed? Do some drool more than others? 2. Will they be ok in an apartment if they get a nice daily run/jog? 3. Can they be left alone for 4-6 hours once or twice a week? I am itching to get a bullmastiff and watching this video is pushing me over the edge.
Ratchets And Wrenches hi there...1. Some do drool more than others. It can be reduced by not allowing them in the room when you eat as they'll sit there drooling!! & also wiping their mouth after they've eaten. I have a couple cloths which I use & wiping their mouths becomes 2nd nature.
2. So long as they get regular exercise (but they don't need too much) they'll be fine in your apartment. They just love being with people & protecting their owner & family. They really are lazy buggers😊 & love to sleep & dont need a large house to roam around at all. 3. They would be fine left alone for that time once a week but prepared to be knocked over & slobber over when you return. could I suggest that you leave 1st for 30 mins then 45 then an hour..building it up before leaving them for 4 -6 hours..they need to know you're returning & dont get anxious. anything else please ask me & would you like to see any specific videos of my dogs? they truly are the most loyal & gorgeous dog you could ever have the privalege of owning. Good luck😊
Hey Jon I really appreciate the time you took to answer all my questions, your recommendation about getting them used to me leaving them in the house slowly is really a good idea, thanks. I can't think of any specific video's I want to see, seeing them run around and your interaction with them is pretty nice as it is. I'll update here when I get one hopefully in the next 2 months or so... for now I just subscribed and will wait for the next video :-) cheers
#TEAM Bernasconi Not really, the depends on the owner. As you can see in the video, they didn’t bite him. He is the right owner for the dogs. A bad owner just won’t care for the dogs but he loves the dogs and I have a puppy bullmastiff and they are adorable, there so cute.
i buy my dogs these beef bones and they really last a long time. i bought a buffalo bone and the bullmastiff split it in 3 pieces within a couple weeks. i don't think the buffalo bones are as tough as the beef bones.
My małe dog Beau is 2ft 2ins from floor to shoulder & he weighs 126 pounds. I believe that the Bullmastiff & Boerboel are very similar in all traits but the Boerboel needs a lot more excercise than the Bullmastiff. Both breeds are really stubborn & definitely not for a novice owner unless your're prepared to put hours of training in.
I saw a boerboel in the flesh for the first time a few days ago. Holy shit - it was by far the biggest dog I've ever seen. 30 inches at the shoulder and weighs 88kgs (193lbs)...!!! It must have been 18 inches across its chest. It was unreal.
Hi jon I am Abhi from ind I like your dogs they are really very good .I want to ask u whether they are good in ind climate and I am a first time owner so I have heard that they need an experienced owner so can u help me out ????
Nice dogs, if you dont like the bottom burp issues. Switch the food over to the barf diet and also dry feed look for wainwrights it has an ingredient init called yucca it stops all the bad smells.
zaimah Begum-Diamond hi..they're fine..I had them checked family recently & the vet told me they were in excellent shape & health. you're quite right, the breed does have problems with these & is something you have to look out for whilst owning one
