Pippen dominated this game from start to finish. this was his best year by far and this was with jordan still retired. it's a shame no one gives pippen no credit for how he played in 1993-1994 and the first 65 games without jordan and that's sad.

I am fortunate to have been able to watch Scotties whole career. Watching him play ball was a pleasure. For those of you out there that watch Lebron play and are amazed with him, i guess you must of missed Scotties career or are too young to have witnessed the truth The suns-bulls game above is just 1 example. Scottie played with this kind of intensity all the time. There was not 1 single catagory in basketball that Pip did not excel at. Scottie in my opinion from the perspective of watching both Lbj and Scottiest careers as they happened and happen, i still feel strongly that Scottie is the better basketball player. Lebron should be thankful that he doesnt have to face a primed Pippen in his career or that era in general. If Pip was in the league today, he would probably be the MVP of the league and Lebron could possibly be ringless. Scottie is arguebly the best wing defender in history at this point. I cant find any reason why he would not be able to shut Lebron down. When people try to compare Lebron to Jordan, i laugh because it is Scottie Pippen that Lebron tries to emulate. Also in a match of hearts, Scotties beats stronger. During the 1994 allstar game, Magic Johnson put it best in his description of Pip, as he was the commentator. Magic said his favorite player in the league was Scottie. Plus he called Pip, and i quote,"Scottie is a beautiful basketball player". And that was spoken by a hall of famer champion who truely knows basketball better than most. Magic Johnson knew what he was talking about when he spoke those words in 1994. I say, SCOTTIE PIPPEN > lebron james all day everyday. And from a basketball IQ standpoint, Pip makes Lebron look retarded. Period.......................... 

Even though everybody missed MJ during 1993/94 season and almost all 1994/95 season, it was crusial for PIP's career and his leadership on the Bulls team. He felt on his back what it feels like to carry his team night in and night out. It made him one heck of the player. Probably the best all around NBA has ever seen.

My all time favorite player, I grew up in Chicago in the 90's. I never missed a game. The crazy thing about Pip is we never really saw what he was capable of. He took a back seat for the sake of winning but when he had the team for 2 years he played like a MVP.

From 1994-1998 those were the best years of the NBA. Legends throughout the league, Grant Hill an Penny Hardaway were superstars, the Knicks had my favorite player Charles Oakley an they fought the Heat damn near every time they played, Shawn Kemp an Gary Payton were dominant. I really miss 90s ball.

Charles Barkley had a unique vertical leap. When it looked like his leap had peaked, he'd kind of keep floating up for another 6 inches in slow motion.

Scottie Pippen created the foundation upon which Jordan could be so great. I'm glad people are realizing that in this era. In the 90s, as I remember it, people couldn't see it. Pippen was not a sidekick or a second banana, he was a leader, a play-maker, a facilitator and a champion.

Being from Chicago, I remember reading the papers talking about how intense Jordan and Pippen would go at each other in practice. If we could only see some videos of those practice sessions.

@mefaltandospauntrio I think Chuck Daly gained a lot of respect for Pippen when he coached him on the Dream team. In fact Daly said Pippen was the 2nd best player on that team and called him the ultimate fill-in-the-blanks guy. Very high praise on a team full of HOFs.

The key to Pippen's post defense is he typically avoids body on body contact. He does that so the offensive player cannot seal him away from the ball. He will make 2 diagonal movements basically going around the post player during the entry pass in order to intercept or disrupt the pass. His sense of anticipation combined with desire and physical attributes made him the best defensive small forward of all time, in my opinion. He was definitely the most feared perimeter defender in the 90's and of all time. As great as Leonard is today, we don't see as much posting up so we can't really answer is Leonard would've been as great of a post defender as Pippen. In terms of perimeter defense, Leonard is possibly neck to neck with Pippen.

How i would love to see him guard LBJ, people will say pippen will not be able to guard him because LBJ is too strong and powerful, but i think many people do forget pippen always loves to draw charges from offensive players, you also need high basketball IQ to know how to defend people who are bigger and stronger

After Horace Grant signed with Orlando Pippen pretty much had to do it all for that team. Jerry Krause didn't give him much to work with. I really like how Pippen plays the post player by dancing around him to make it difficult for the entry pass at 4:24. Most guys just stand there and allow the entry pass to come in. The footwork, the long arms, the athleticism was a lethal combination on the defensive end.

The best floor game EVER. Pippen took over games without scoring, and when he did score, he was top 5 all time. How impressive is it when he is 13/17, Kobe and Michael would have jacked up another 5 or 6 shots. Not Pippen, he will play within the team, and make sure to get other scorers involved until the end. It shows that you need to beat the Bulls team to win, not just one Scottie Pippen. Westbrick should study this man.

Finally, I've viewed most of the 1993 NBA Finals within the last three and a half years or so and I hardly ever recall Pippen guarding Barkley. Sir Charles' defender was usually Horace Grant or Scott Williams and they'd either defend Barkley one-on-one or the Bulls would send a help defender.

But was Pippen one of the ten best players ever at creating a major impact on both offense and defense? I'd probably concur, adding his name to the likes of Jordan, Garnett, Olajuwon, Duncan, McHale, Abdul-Jabbar, and David Robinson. But the question of the ten best overall players is arguably different and there can be great all-around players, such as Bird and Magic, who weren't great (or even good, or even average) individual defenders.

I remember this .. Barkley went scoreless for most part of the game after Pippen guarded him .. Perry passed for 17 assists in a game (where Barkley did not play) in February 1994 and the next season, he finished as the runner-up in NBA Most Improved Player balloting and then received a six-year, $12M free agent contract from the Suns (significant for the time) to keep him away from Washington.
