Scholarship Edition is more like Directors cut, not a remaster

I had a good time with it. One thing I would've liked more of is Gary; the guy's a great antagonist, but he disappears for most of the game.

I can forgive chapter 3 being christmas because the story takes place in multiple months and it makes sense.

I never experienced dodgy framerate or graphics at all on the 360 or Xbox One. Never crashed but once, either, and it was probably due to my room being severely hot.

The Collector mission was so annoying to me because it wouldn't count some of the bikes so I had to get like 4 extra bikes

Another thing I find annoying with SE is that in the PS2 version, peds' quotes are always more varied because they can reuse all of their quotes in a random order while in SE (or at least PC, I dunno), once all of a ped's quotes for a specific situation have been used, the game will just stick to only one and reuse only that one until you restart the game. I think I can better explain this with an example, let's say Trent's fighting taunts. 1. "Your momma hits better!" 2. "Look at the pipsqueak go!" 3. "Come on, pansy!" (the repeating quote) 4. "You're dead!" In the PS2 version, you can hear any of these 4 playing at random when Trent is fighting anyone. I think it's rare for one quote to be played twice in a row, but I'm not sure. But in SE, once all 4 of those quotes have been played once, the game goes back to no. 3 and keeps playing that one over and over without changing to the other quotes. I think it's a shame because it makes playing the game at a longer duration kinda annoying (at least for me).

Once Rockstar is done with a game, they're done it feels like. Anything else they have to do once the game is finished is half arsed.

3:30 Without the silent patch, The game may crash around 30 seconds of gameplay too. I'm not even joking. Edit: Also, in my opinion at least, they should've added clique leaders into free roam after you completed the game (kind of like how Zoe appears in free roam after Complete Mayhem). They just completely disappear from the game afterwards, you don't ever see them or talk to them ever again.

Bad remaster or not Bully Scholarship Edition was a great game which I had tons of fun with, still playing it on my Xbox One now thanks to backwards compatibility today. 👍

Maybe it's just the PS4 emulation, but the sound in the original definitely seemed worse, overall. Cutscenes were fine, but in gameplay, every character has that early GTA voice, where it sounds like they're talking through a walkie-talkie

Personally speaking, I think _Bully: Scholarship Edition_ is a fine remake minus the bugs and glitches that comes with it. The additional missions, with some of them just feeling tacked on, are rather fun and I don't mind playing through a Christmas storyline in the middle of the year. The additional classes are also fun despite three of them not being very rewarding. And the graphics (at least on the PC and Xbox 360) definitely breathe new fresh air into the game. I got nothing against the original game on the PS2, but _Scholarship Edition_ just beats it in terms of content and visuals. Is it perfect though? No, but I would still consider it the definitive version of the game yet. Also, why do people confuse remakes and remasters so much? A remake is a game that has been rebuild from the ground up on a new graphics engine. _Bully: Scholarship Edition_ and _Anniversary Edition_ , _Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy_ , and _Spyro Reignited Trilogy_ are remakes. A remaster just upscales the game, with _GTA: San Andreas_ on the PS3 and Xbox 360 being a good example of one.

Honestly the look of Scholarship Edition on Xbox 360 and PC always looked off the me. The color palate was off, and it felt weird having these really good lighting is really advanced lighting and shadow system when the assets themselves are still PS2 quality. I'll always prefer the look of the PS2 and Wii versions.

Literally the only thing that I prefer with SE over vanilla Bully is the geography class reward that shows all collectibles on your map. I forgot how pants the extra missions were until this video. Also, the new classes that only gave clothes sucked and made progression slower since the classes you WANT to do, you need to wait for now while filler classes go.

Worst bug for me is definitely the repeating dialogue of characters compared to Wii and PS2, since on PC for example, Russell will use all his fighting quotes in one go and then repeat the same one over and over (I've noticed it's always the voiceline with "V1" with all characters), and it's very annoying if you're watching a fight or being chased, since it feels like a broken game (or broken record lol). Overall thoughts: If they had just got the final PS2 version that is functional and ported it to the PC and Xbox with the improved graphics and such, it would've been better in my opinion and for adding the beta missions. They definitely should've fixed the bugs and issues related to them; I hate "Mailbox Armageddon", because it'll put me on a bike and it says theft, which spawns a policeman behind me, who instantly whacks me off the bike (wasting time on the clock), Jimmy gets back up, gets grabbed, shaking the Wii remote or press the button related to PC/Xbox to push away the officer and get back on the bike to finally start the mission; a good 10-15 seconds gone from the mission, considering its low time limit as well, plus for the Wii, I have to go slow, since it sometimes doesn't count my swing on the mailbox, considering I actually hit it perfectly. Also a Discreet Deliveries issue on the Wii (could be PC and Xbox as well. Wouldn't be shocked), is where if I get attacked by Jocks before/after giving Mr. Burton his package, it'll say "You attacked a customer!", when I clearly didn't, and that you have to go through the cutscene and mission again. Lastly, Santa Hobo missions and The Collector don't bother me much, apart from Collector, when you have to steal from an adult, which causes police to instantly bust you/knock you off the bike and then bust you if the spawns are unlucky.

I actually prefer the Scholarship Edition, but my preference is tied to nostalgia. The first time I played Bully was on the X360 and I had a great time all the times that I've played it, I even made 100%, so I agree that the PS2 version is superior except in graphics, but if I would play it again, I would go for the PC SE.

Bully is bloody amazing. I still love it. The frame rate in Canis Canem Edit on my PS4 drops drastically at the carnival; it makes me nauseous.

What they did to the sky and weather changes in Scholarship Edition is completely unforgivable.

It’s literally the same game tho..just with a few added missions and characters..as well as the enhanced graphics and farther camera view...pretty hard to complain about that I think..I never had any problems with the game crashing.

Everything you mentioned is a PC issue. This always ran amazing on every Xbox console.

There's a way to not crash for the xbox360 version of the game,you simply install it by putting up the disc and do it,that's it

I don’t know why but the ps2 version just gives off a better “vibe” or atmosphere if you will that better suits the style of the game for me, something about the updated graphics while they looked nice just didn’t feel right to me and it seems like the snow was nerfed in chapter 3, not to mention that the rest of the game has the same weather almost constantly, I could be nitpicking here but that’s what I’ve noticed over the years.

This was a common thing with Rockstar Games ever since they decided to team up with Sony to launch GTA 3 as a timed exclusive. Every time their games made it to other systems outside of the PS2, they would lose their atmosphere, introduce new bugs, run poorly, missing effects, compressed audio, etc. Although, that came to an half end with GTA IV, when Rockstar finally learned to use the Xbox... the PC however took them until 2015 with the launch of GTA V to finally do a decent port. And this used to be a company that developed on PC primarily. On top of all this, they release a patch for GTA IV so many years later... not to fix their own crap but to remove music. The old 3D GTA games were saved by modders as they pretty much patched out everything wrong with these games. For Bully and Manhunt, stick with the emulated, upscalled PS4 versions.

I've only ever played the Scholarship Edition and just assumed the hard crashes were a problem with the original as well. I'm pissed off now that I never played the original and had to put up with the crashing. The lack of an autosave feature made the crashing particularly annoying, I once lost around four hours of work.

The reason Rockstar didn't put nearly as much effort into "remastering" Bully as they did GTA 5 later on is that Bully wasn't anywhere near as popular as GTA so it would have been a very poor business decision to invest a lot of time into it

Ngl thought scholarship edition was aleast functional unlike the san andreas "remaster" using the mobile files and making a really crappy game because of the xbox engine.

It's VERY unlikely Rockstar worked off a beta of the game. Beta content is left in a game's files strictly because scrubbing it would take far more work than just leaving it in and making it inaccessible. For some context, Hot Coffee was left into GTA SA because it would've delayed the game a few months to fully scrub all of its code. They also ported Bully to a new engine for the Scholarship edition which also makes it much less likely. They most likely had an internal build of the game that was less stripped down than the PS2 version, and ported that to Gamebryo. And they were able to reincorporate some of the cut content for the remaster but were unable to do it all before the game shipped. Porting the original PS2 build would've taken much more time than just porting their internal version that probably either ran on a devkit or a PC.

Playing Scholarship Edition on Series X, I encountered even more issues. In Balls of Snow, I could only throw one snowball before being softlocked. Thankfully, this softlock was fixable by pausind and unpausing but still very annoying to do. Many looping sound affects are bugged and have a very short moment of silence before looping. These include the neon hmms and the go-kart engine. I had to teach myself to not pay attention as they were giving me actual headaches. Many character models warp at random. If you open the help page during music class, the notes pause but the music doesn't, causing a desync that makes the class much harder. Even if you bring up that page, the class still lags slightly even on Series X, causing a small desync that becomes worse as the song goes on. Thankfully this lag doesn't happen during Nutcrackin'. Also remember to close the game when you're done because even with the patches, there's still a small memory leak that will ventually cause a crash if you rely on quick resume.

It's funny how some people don't realise the difference between a remaster and remake. Remaster is pretty much just graphical enchancements. For example: Dark Souls Remastered. Remake is build from the ground up. For example the Half-Life remake: Black Mesa. There are a lot more differences, but those are the ones I'm most familiar with. Thank you for reading my comment! people forget that cut content for a game usually means.. that it was the crappiest stuff or hardest to implement. Meaning it will suck or it'll be buggy most fo the time.

@TheNathanNS have you played the mobile version yet? the inside of the school looks so much better for me the mobile android port seems to be the best port and remaster in my opinion graphically speaking maxed settings.

Yeah after watching the original Resident Evil 2 I now know the remake was a bad remake mostly because the original is more detailed in the storyline and how Mr X showed up is more explained than the remake the dialogue between Leon and Claire is more detailed in the Police car in the original. Details is very important in games I believe the remake was rushed and full of laziness.

I purchased Bully on my phone so I can play whenever. It plays pretty well. Love the game

There were a few times when I experienced bugs during the new classes where in Biology the classes would freeze randomly and in Music the buttons wouldn't sync even if I hit them correctly. Also, my game was prone to random freezes during missions. And yeah you're not really missing much if you don't play the Scholarship Edition.

Bully Scholarship Edition on PC and Xbox 360 are remasters. However The Wii version is more of a director's cut. 4:59 the audio in scholarship edition isn't broken for all versions, the Wii version has no broken audio.

You want to talk worst remasters, take a look at Silent Hill ‘HD Collection’, aside from that good video, I remember playing this back on ps2

Scholarship edition isn't exactly a "remaster" as much as a "GOTY" Also the whole Wii not having better graphics is kinda pushing it. I think most either don't care or know that platform is weaker. But that's only a minor point so eh The worst remaster goes 100% to San Andreas on Xbox 360 and PS3

The only thing I'll say against this video is, the windows 10 broke the game thing. Old games do eventually become outdated, and Microsoft recognized that a lot of program developers will always eventually stop supporting and updating software to work on newer operating systems. That's why there's compatibility mode, Windows' built in backwards compatibility tool.

Actually, the low quality music in the candidate and the ear rape from Pinky is only on PC and Anniversary Edition which I'm pretty surprised they didn't even fix in that version. Also, I should mention the PC and Xbox 360 versions have some of the worst uv mapping I have ever seen (Specifically on some characters).

The framerate issues on PS4 Pro are horrendous... and I am one of these people who hear others claim that a game has 'framerate issues' and 75% of the time I think to myself "Hmm... didn't really notice that" but this game, when you are outdoors on the campus of the school, and in many other places, it instantly starts in with crazy 15FPS drops that last for 3-5 seconds, and you get a few seconds before you turn a corner or head towards a new subzone on campus and another drop sets in. It's so absurd because this is obviously nothing at all to do with hardware limits, and everything to do with pure laziness and lack of respect for both players and for their own product, to release it in the state they did and call it 'Remastered' is so sheisty and absurd that it makes you wonder if it was a mistake at first, before realizing, nope, its Rockstar being exactly what Rockstar has become after tasting blood with GTA Online. The game is still playable, for anyone who wants to run through a schoolyear for nostalgia's sake, you will still get what you're looking for with this game, but just don't get your expectations up that its going to be a beautiful widescreen resolution re-rendered version of the game you remember. It's basically a jerry-rigged emulation file that was hacked and frankensteined into compatibility for current gen consoles, given an option to stretch the 4:3 to 16:9 with no graphical tweaks whatsoever (lol?) and you get a sub-par version of Bully. Playable for sure -- but subpar.

I also noticed that the original ps2 version spawns alot more different npc:s in freemode. I bought it from ps store yesterday and immediately saw a teacher that I have NEVER seen on freemode in all them years I used to play SE

Coming from someone who's beat both versions multiple times, I definitely prefer the scholarship edition for its graphic improvements alone. I cant go back to the way ps2 looks haha. There is some added stuff thats lame but overall I don't think it was meant to be a remaster, just more of an upgrade like when gta5 got its first next gen update.

This was the version of Bully I played and 100%'d. I dunno, if it's bad I still 100% loved the game.

PC doesnt need to be 'excessive' to play the newest games you can run a lot of recent games with a PC you built your self for less than £500 most of the people have 'excessive' PCs to further enhance the experience. I built a PC for less than £120 and it ran most games that were recent at the time it was built at, it hit 60 fps on a range of medium or high at 1080p I built this PC back in late 2017.

I feel Scholarship edition was mostly made so it'd be on something other than PS2. Especially since the original game released so close to the 360's release

the townies were in chpater 3 in beta not 5 the collector rudy mission etc the bug happened to me once

Bullys scholarship edition was the first pc port i played not saying gameplay wise but performance wise. Bugs, stupid mouse and keyboard controls, crashes without patch by a fan but im glad they added unused missions for ps2 in pc

I didn't experience any issues with the Wii version when I was a kid. But I DID have issues with it on PC.

the collector took place during ch 3 since winter and in new coventry not blue skies so you met Clint in chapter 3 and got introduced to the townies in chapter 3 at least the ones in new covernty since blue skies was yet locked
