Well done on this review, I admit I am impressed. This review included Bulova history, Citizen relationship, Skeleton explanation for those with less experience, the crystal makeup (mineral), exposition case back, 21 jewel explanation, watch setting, and more. Your watch did the same as mine when wound backward but mine doesn’t stop since a week after I got it. You even used the correct verbiage stating non-hacking. It’s a relief to find someone who knows what they are talking about and explain things well without over explaining or spinning. Love the comment regarding Jurassic Park lol. Great work.
What an amazing coincidence. I've been following your channel for a long time because of all the casio reviews (I have a lineage and wave ceptor), and I've been eyeing this bulova all year and now you posted a review of it too :D Ultimately though, I didn't buy one because the 8N24 is a skeletonised version of Miyota's entry-level 8xxx series which doesn't have hacking (i.e. the second hand doesn't stop when you pull out the crown so you can't synchronise it exactly), has only a standard 6-ticks-per-second beat rate, and a normal 40-hour power reserve. For the same price I bought a Boderry BD001 skeleton from China. The movement inside is a Chinese Hangzhou 7500 with hacking, high beat rate (8 ticks per second) and a 72-hour power reserve (in my tests it actually ran for over 80 hours on the desk before stopping). It's not as beautiful or well-finished as this Bulova, but the balance wheel is more visible, and the specs I mentioned are better.
Thanks a lot for the great review, I have a number of Bulova’s from the “Precisionist” line and I love them have been considering buying this watch for a while and think this has helped me make the decision so thanks again keep up the great work 👍
Hi Greg I've never been that keen on skeleton watches, but being honest this Bulova is one of the nicest I've seen, I think the roman numerals really make it stand out I'm sure you'll enjoy it for many years keep up the good work ,stay safe.
I’ve been recently looking into getting an automatic skeleton watch. This one caught my eye yesterday, so I’m glad I happened to find your review! Thank you, it was very informative and I will most likely get one of these.
I just ordered this online, and only after I got it, did I even bother coming to RU-vid to check out any deep dive reviews of it, because I honestly just had to have it. I didn’t even care what anyone else said haha. But I’m stoked that this is the first review of it, because it honestly just made me so friggin excited to get this watch delivered. (It’s also a little ‘memorial’ for myself for getting my second covid vaccination and just being rid of this bullshite lol 😄)
The plus size of the mechanical movement is that you save money on batteries and it is environmental friendly. Yet a as they say that the Swiss movement are very known to be the best in the world like ETA and so on. In a way I have an Invicta mechanical watch with an NH35A mechanical movement from Seiko, as I would say Asian mechanical movements from China and Japan are coming out as good as their Swiss counterparts.
Bulova belonging to citizen means you'll only ever get a miyota movement in there so the price is somewhat inflated and more so a reflection of the brand, case and strap the movement costs now around the 50 buck mark for the 8 series movement wich is probably what's in this watch. The higher end bulova will have the 9 series miyota movement retailing around 600 or 700. Better off buying something with an ETA movement in my opinion. Still looks good though even though the skeleton is showing off an entry level movement.
There are lots of clocks that show IIII instead of IV but I can’t seem to find a solid source to tell me exactly why. When I was a kid someone told me that it’s about giving the clock face a more balanced look. But there are other stories out there about different reasons. All I know is that, for many generations, there are lots of examples of clocks and watches that do the IIII version of the number 4.
@@GoodTimekeeper I heard it's for symmetry on the dial. A bit like why manufacturers set watches to 10:10 on stock photos - symmetry seems to matter a lot in the watch world...until you get strange watches like the Rolex Midas, or the Hamilton Ventura which totally break the "rules".
Hola, acabo de comprar un bulova 97a161, tengo 2 preguntas la primera es que en la noche al no usarlo se detiene y la segunda es que al moverlo hace un sonido el sistema que le da energia es normal?
It’s difficult to predict price trends these days. I searched carefully almost 2 years ago and finally took the best deal I found. I guess I’m not surprised it goes for a bit higher than that today.
@SeanFindMyCar Not sure that I've found your car, but maybe I've found your watch? There's a second hand rose gold bezel one on eBay listed for $209 from a seller I've purchased from. You should probably be able to find it if you search for Bulova 95a165
