Can remember my mum taking me to fords and the big co op next to bulwell market when I was a kid, such a busy friendly town back then, shame it's gone down hill...

The King Billy knocked down because it stuck out to much (so said the council) .Then they build the new building on the same foundation. Bulwell once a pleasant little town destroyed by council developers. The viaduct that would have stood for a thousand years could have carried the tram knocked down on a whim.

Agreed, I work in Irlam (west Manchester) and they've still got their viaducts standing. It was doing no harm except tied up land the greedy buggers wanted to sell for redevelopment !!

One of my best memories is coming into work about 8 a.m. one winter's day. I cycled up the River Leen and came across a heron perched on a shopping trolley by the metal bridge at the bogs. It's about the last place I'd expect one. They're really really timid and avoid people.
