Yep, it's all part of his survival, how do you think a man that is homeless obtains expensive stuff such as skis and skateboards? I'm guessing not legally.
I dunno how this randomly came up in my recommended in 2024, and I don't know why I decided to watch it all the way through.. but I loved every minute of it.
He lives in Vancouver now working construction. So much respect for Charley, no one can land switch in powder like him. No one loves skiing as much as Charley, legend.
Sounds like as a construction worker he went the “poser” route. I grew up with a dude like this. They actually need money, lots of it. They go around with cute catch phrases begging and getting one way gifts from friends until the joke is over. Then they move and work construction. When he breaks a bone he really becomes a “poser”. Never ends well. Sad cause he seems talented.
I'm so glad the algorithm just randomly decided to resurrect this gem. I used to vibe like this back in the day with the climbing community. I live a "poser" life now according to old school Charley and I'm happy, but wow do I miss those days.
Everybody has some life story like this now where it's like yeah I used to be all wild those were the days. I think 99% of such origin stories are total BS but it helps people to conform to the machine to put false narratives in their history.
bro forgot to turn off auto stabilization. also u can get these fishies easy now. get a few adapters and u can get an MK distortion on a handicam. vignette in this is awful
Drum rolling tobacco and shredding the nar.........a contentment and peace very few will ever know and even fewer will understand. Epic video from a place in time that no longer exists.
Yea lived three years there (13-16) it was changing quick while I was there and I was already late to the party haha but some unforgettable times ill look back on till im gone
Lived in whis like a bum for 2 summers in 17-18 for mtb riding. Learned so many tricks to skate by on the 1500 bucks I brought with me. best times ever. Long live the big green house and Patrik Martin. Nothin beat a long day of riding and heading to crystal lounge for a few pints or going for a swim at lost lake. I cherish those days and the people I met along the journey.
@@Circumnavigate for one make friends, everyone knows someone to hook a homie up. Tim Hortons, day old slices at avalanche pizza. Just pinch pennys and make friends and ride your f’n bike haha
@srithongkun actually, this was filmed years before he made it in the pros. before made it skiing professionally, he lived in his truck for four years, and when he crashed his truck in a ditch, he moved into the tent in this movie. he really was a SKI BUM and was getting no "money and shit".
I hate people like you. Who the fuck cares? It's all painfully southern BC. Everyone out there thinks they're tough. I hear a bunch of talk. Never seen one true story though. Buncha pansies.
I used to eat table scraps to get by and skip lift lines everywhere I went just so I could board everyday and those were some of the best days of my life
RU-vid has recommended this video to me countless times and I finally just decided to watch it. Crazy how this dudes video went viral after 14 years. Pretty funny and very 2009.
Same. I ended up in WP CO. It's a major reason I pursued being a ski bum. Alterra and the mega ski corps are killing the lifestyle and the love. Saw a dumb Facebook reel about washing ski gear and it made me think of "wash socks? Theses are ski socks bro!"
Wow. I worked the lifts for a season at Whistler Blackcomb in 1990/91. What surprises most is how the Wizard Lift is still the same in 2009 as it was back then!! 😅
@SorryNoFatChicks its not fake, a little exaggerated for comedic effect maybe, but this was a sincere and accurate representation of how he lived at the time
great collaboration. he is a natural character and the 'scenes' almost don't feel like scenes at all. you guys captured this well. it feels very authentic and representative of 'the times'
All old youtube that is preserved will be golden. It was a time when people uploaded because they wanted to share their life and ideas. Never incentivized by advertisements. Purely from the human soul.
‘To be young again with not a care in the world’, but these days after having been a slave in the matrix for over thirty years I am fond as for the freedom ❤
Right ON for K2...although a canuck I prefer K2's and all the history in em...Kind of relate to Charley Harley about this life...I tasted some...went pro on the railway though lol!
I see no problem with being a ski bum as long as you don't mooch off friends. I made the mistake of not providing enough on own and relying too much on others. I lost many friends because of it. Only rely on yourself, not your buddies.
So rad. I did the same thing when I was 19 for just a summer (1991) in Alaska and then in washington. Couldn’t even imagine living out of a tent today. It’s not so hard when you are young.
The mystery of life isn't a problem to solve, but a reality to experience. A process that cannot be understood by stopping it. We must move with the flow of the process. We must join it. - Charley Ager, Whistler ski bum
obviously acted out for comic effect ... should have pointed out though that reality is jobs on ski resorts pay fuck all but its easier than freezing to death in a car and only being able to ski 1/8th of the resort without a pass. easy way is finding the easiest job. sorry for the reality check, life's shit
