I was watching bumblebee with my mom and when Charlie dived into the pool of water to save bumblebee my mom whispered to me “she’s in love with her car” (referencing the song I’m in love with my car by queen) and that was my favorite part of this movie

Charlie is a teenage misfit, from a struggling family, with daddy issues and an aptitude for cars/engineering who, after meeting a quirky boy with a secret, ends up embroiled in the covert war between Autobots and Decepticons. Am I the only one that came out thinking she's basically a sincere, non-cynical take on doing Megan Fox's character correctly? This film was great. Not Earth shattering, but not every film needs to be. The seemingly genuinely affection for the property and having real character development was just so refreshing.

@@DavidSilva-mn4dz Actually, Mikaela was decently written. That was what made her forgettable: she was overshadowed by dull or unlikable characters. Why you think Anthony Anderson and that Australian lady haven't come back? Potentially good characters overrun by stereotypes and boring cliches. EDIT 12/31: Maggie Madsen is the Australian character; she was a more true homage to the G1 Carly than the actual movie version of Carly, which is pretty sad when you think about it. And if one pays attention to the plot Mikaela was the more useful character yet in DOTM she was demonized simply for breaking up with Sam.

I got the feeling throughout the movie that this was a much more smaller scale, human, character driven, and less stereotypical take on the first Transformers movie in general. There were multiple parallels there things were similarly done but handled so much better under Travis Knight's direction. For example, that ending with Charlie telling Memo that their relationship had realistically not progressed into something romantic ( at least yet ) as they'd only been speaking to each other for a few days but still showed great respect and care after what they'd gone through together, as opposed to Sam and Mikaela making out on top of Bumblebee after a similar few days ( that must have been so awkward for Bumblebee looking back on that ). It just really speaks to what happens when a production staff treats characters like people instead of caricatures like Bay does.

Although to be fair I think Memo was made simply so that people wouldn't think CharBee as a romantic couple, which honestly sounds ridiculous since, all the way starting in G1 the franchise had Cybertronian/human couples. I would like to see such pairings explored in depth one day as respectful and tasteful as possible. (Kiss Players was just awful).

@Jarrod Harmier that’s what I meant, memo was a character who played little to know part to the plot and if removed would change almost nothing plot wise. Not saying he’s a bad character though. I’m 99.9% sure his only purpose as a character was to be Charlie’s “love interest” even though she clearly doesn’t like him that way.

I liked how there was a young version of John Tuturro's character Simmons in this movie. Obviously he wouldn't have known at the time; that one day, in 2007, he and Bumblebee' fates would be inextricably linked.... The lubricator and the man who was lubricated.

Honestly Simmons was the most developed character; went from a complete douche in the first movie to someone who saved the Autobots from genocide in the fifth. EDIT 12/29: With that being said, I wouldn't mind if is Simmons became the main human character if they decided to continue Bayverse because I genuinely liked his character. At least his role makes much more sense than "Random High School Loser becomes Savior of an Alien Race While Everyone Else Does the Hard Work."

Better visual effects are usually lack of care and lack of time. It's why a super low budget movie can look gorgeous because they were aiming for it, but Jack and Jill is just even lighting.

Sequel title idea, "Transformers: The Shape of Steel" Prime was a good series. But I still have my soft spot for Beast Wars. Versatile characters, better spread of male and female transformers, solid story depth for a children's targeted show. After a G1 film, I really would like to see Beast Wars get the movie treatment. It would just be so much fun. But that's just my personal wish.

Even as someone who grew up with the Michael Bay Transformers films (Animated got my attention, but the films and the toys based on the Bayformers were more present), I still get a kick out of seeing the Transformers being recognizable as the same characters from the original cartoon, toys, and comics. As a fan of Bumblebee the character, I liked seeing his best attributes on display in the film, rather than random moments like peeing on Simmons. As someone who just wants a good story, I'm happy that we have a movie with likable characters, an enjoyable character arc for the two leads, and coherent visuals. Hopefully we'll get more films of Bumblebee's standard, and hey, I would be all too happy to have Hailee Steinfeld reprise her role of Charlie Watson again. That's not something I can really say about the characters from the previous movies.

The only thing I looked forward to with the Bayformers movies were Lindsay/Andre collab reviews. When I first heard about the solo film, my eyes rolled but I thought "Well, I'll get another Lindsay/Andre collab!" That first Bumblebee trailer almost, almost (almost) made me forget about the collab because of how excited I was by it. And then Lindsay's tweets brought me back to reality. After watching the movie and thoroughly enjoying the hell out of it, I was impatiently waiting for this. Christmas came early for me! Thank you both!

So this year we’ve had Scarlet Witch and and vision. Deadpool and his dead girlfriend (and a little bit of Colossus), Eddy Brock and venom, and now Hailee Steinfield and Bumblebee. So the moral to take from this is that literally anything is a better love story than fifty shades freed.

Not to overexaggerate or anything- but I always love seeing my two favorite people combine their powers for the good of humanity. It's like a buddy cop movie... but good.
