“I’m pretty sure someone cried.” It was me, I cried. The moment they said “dating back 50 years” and then we saw Shadow in that capsule, it was all over for me LMAO
I cried at the same five parts on my two viewings so far, starting with Super Sonic and ending with Shadow. I'd never jumped so high in my seat before until that reveal lol
Jaleel White could have easily been a cameo in the wedding, as a groomsmen or in the audience next to Tom. All he would've needed to say at the ruined wedding was "That's no good." Done. Otherwise, a fun watch. Good review Andre!
This movie was just so fun. Sonic and Tails was my introduction to friendship as a little girl. I love them so much and they did a great job with their relationship!!
When he was readying himself to sprint over that water, I joked to my sister that he's "just gotta go fast" and THEN HE SAID THE SAME THING, AND I WAS LOSING IT 🤣🤣🤣
Tyson Hesse confirmed that the language used for the block puzzle in the Siberian temple is ment to be Babylonian, in reference to the Babylon Rogues from Sonic Riders.
If somebody were to tell me in the 90's, that Tails was going to hit knuckles with a police vehicle to save Sonic while Robotnik watches...I would think that they were insane lol. I loved this film man 🤣
Out of the things you might have missed: There's apparently a Chaos engraving in one of the walls of Labyrinth Zone. And during the 3 way fist bump Sonic, Tails and Knuckles do in the final fight, they are in the exact position of the Sonic Heroes logo
When shadow was teased everyone in my theater erupted into cheers and screams and in my head all I could hear was shadows theme from the game playing and I cannot wait to see him in the next movie. My hope is that they don't make him overly edgy and dark because thats what the games have done recently.
I'm legitimately excited to see the way that they tackle Shadow. Because the way that they tackled knuckles with not making him dumb, just lacking understanding about human customs made for a character that you can make fun of for his "dumb" moments while still being a character that you can appreciate because of a strong moral compass that allows him to have a deep conversation. I think they're going to give him those dark dark qualities because it's a kids movie so they have to make fun of his edgy nature but as the movie goes on he'll become more three-dimensional and actually likable. Also I am excited to see how they integrate him with the story (okay i just wanna see him be adopted by the wachowskis since they're apparently the humanoid animal children orphanage)
@@bippap1034 his story is gonna make people cry because of what happens to Maria. I feel like they are gonna give shadow a lot of John wick energy if you know what I mean and that isn't just cause I want Keanu to voice him. 🤣
Fun story...this was my 5yr old son first movie theater experience (small theater not a lot of foot traffic) and we all waited for the mid credit scene. What makes this story HILARIOUS is that my FIVE YEAR OLD SON had us waiting for another post/end credit scene. His first movie and he knew to wait through the credits.... I was so proud and laughing at the same time because I knew exactly what he was going for. Literally the best thing ever and it's in part due to his uncle (my baby bro) ALWAYS showing him a Sonic or Mario playthrough. But this was such a great thing to see
This movie is awesome. I absolutely love how they handled the chaos emeralds and the master emerald, the wedding scene is pretty good, and how they made the death egg robot look very cool. Of course my favorite parts are eggman, knuckles, super sonic, and finally....... The mid credit scene with my boy, ALL HAIL SHADOW!!!!!!!!!
My theory is that G.U.N. was very passive in their approach to capture Sonic, finding a moment while he was vulnerable, without harming anyone, and if Sonic didn’t appear at the wedding, they would have run more operations post-marriage.
@Mystic The GUN truck will most definitely be a thing. I hope they find a way to primarily use practical effects for it, kinda like the bus scene in Shang Chi. Crushing cars sounds pretty fun.
Tom’s ringtone and Rachel going the hell off on all the GUN agents was great. I do wish Tom had at least attempted to explain that he has the missing ring, and the bride and groom could still not believe him, forcing him to make the punch anyway, but at least then Tom wouldn’t have looked as bad.
I think Knuckles punching the emerald out of Robotnik was a reference to when he punched the chaos emeralds out of Super Sonic in Sonic 3. Also, I hope to God Shadow isn't voiced by Chris Pratt 😒
The actor who is brought up the most to possibly voice Shadow (apart from the original videogame VO) is Keanu Reeves. And for anyone who has seen a John Wick movie, that makes sense to me.
Pretty disappointed you didn’t cover the sonic and knuckles sand fight scene. It was very emotional and was the final nail in the coffin for Knuckles to switch sides. Aside from that, awesome video!
One slightly subtler reference I liked was during the final fight. When Robotnik says "Snot rocket" and launches a laser out of the robot's nose, it's very similar to an attack that the Death Egg Robot in Sonic And Knuckles has in its second phase, where it shoots fire from its nose. Fun fact, that robot was ALSO powered by the Master Emerald.
Adding to that embarrassment is that Dragon Ball: Evolution came out LONG before Sonic 2, and they didn't even TRY to make Goku a proper Super Saiyan (least that is how I remember it.) But, Super Sonic in this movie is what DBE should've been.
@@Luigifangirl101 his IMDB page will have him listed under Shadow and the Sonic movies. If you play Shadow the Hedgehog, he’ll also show up in the credits. I didn’t believe it till I checked myself
The moment that the bride stepped off the golf cart, as it was skidding into the dj booth, while Barracuda by Heart was playing was one of my favorites scenes. While everything from the moment Sonic and Tails leaving Siberia to the moment Sonic rushes off to find Eggman and Knuckles could have been cut for a short transitional scene, I'd keep it in just for that golf cart scene.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who actually enjoyed the wedding scene lol. BTW the way Sonic tipped over the Death Egg Robot was a reference to Sonic 06. Also, Tails’ communicator acting up was a reference to Sonic Colors. And the multiple copies of Tails might be a reference to an episode of Sonic Boom called “Multi-Tails” (I think…🤔)
Rouge is a strong possibility in the third one, considering she's a government agent and was undercover in SA2, depending which aspects of the game they are going to use
@@TheYamiJK In addition to what you've said, I feel like Rouge HAS to be in the 3rd movie as she's the best character to contend with Knuckles; not so much to fight him but to distract him as she's also a jewel thief.
They never did explain how Knuckles' tribe vanished. I highly doubt it was because of Longclaw alone, she seemed quite overwhelmed in that fight. Unless she had some kind of magic nuke to take them all with her.
Also laughed hysterically at the little Sonic running from the boulder in Robotnic’s Rube Goldberg contraption to serve mushroom coffee! Way to start the movie!
It was cool, and helped illustrate Robotnik's serious obsession with Sonic. Which isn't just a "silly Jim Carry" moment, but actually very in-character for Robotnik.
I LOVE this movie so much! So many things were well executed for the story. I can't wait until Sonic 3 comes out, and I hope Jim Carrey decides to come back if he has retired already, because he makes a great Eggman!
Just watched the movie yesterday and it was one of the best times I had in a theater. People were flipping out when Shadow was revealed and the Super Sonic scene was amazing! Only real thing that made me groan was the floss dance, but otherwise it was possibly the best video game movie Hollywood has ever produced.
Jim Carrey doing it kinda saves it, he makes anything funny, unlike the first movie’s flossing. Jim makes it feel like he’s mocking the dance’s popularity in a 4th wall breaking way, just subtle enough so that kids and adults can both enjoy it.
I loved this movie. Maybe even more so than the first since it had a majority focus on Sonic, Tails, Robotnik and Knuckles in it. But the human characters are likeable enough to make their scenes enjoyable enough. Overall, it was a fun movie and I can't wait for Sonic 3 and the Knuckles spin-off.
I love how full circle Andre’s come from seriously doubting/questioning the first movie from the first trailer, making fun of both it and hardcore Sonic fans, to he himself becoming a hardcore fan and absolutely loving this movie.
Took my daughters (6 and 4) to see it yesterday. They loved it! The "Dot dot dot" scene was their favorite part 🤣. It has been such a popular scene that there's a RU-vid channel that has Knuckles saying Dot Dot Dot for an hour! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
It wasn't coordinates, it was a project file. A project file dating back 50 years ago. As soon as that was mentioned my theater started buzzing immediately!
Just starting the video but I agree with you, I didn't mind the wedding scene at all. It was funny and a little heartwarming I a weird way. But they could've also trimmed it and I wouldn't have minded either. I get the criticism but at the same time we still got like a solid hour-thirty, hour-forty of Sonic action soooo that satisfied me. People acting like it was Gareth Edward's Godzilla sometimes
I'll be honest, I'm one of those people who thinks the wedding plot could've been cut down a certain amount. But, I still really enjoyed the movie, big smile all the way through and they're doing everything right to cater to everyone with this cinematic universe so far. Fingers crossed, it keeps up and gets better.
Honestly, while I do admit the wedding subplot could have been reduced, I like the twist they had with it. At the very least it had SOME bearing on the story. And, hey, at least it made me feel sorry for Rachel's character.
Andre I just want you to know that your hype is most of the reason I went to see this movie. And I’ve been so excited to watch you nerd out about it in detail. Your excitement is so contagious. Thank you for being you, please never change.
natasha rothwell I've been a fan of since insecure so I thought the wedding scenes were actually pretty funny. glad someone else felt how I do cause her and tika sumpter had great chemistry and we got to see 2 humans be wacky in their own way that isnt like Jim Carey being a cartoon
There were so many things I loved, laughed and cheered for in this movie. We got brother dynamics, we got hugs, we finally officially got Donut Dad and Pretzel Mom. Tails is a sweetie, adorable, and gets his own moments to shine with his gadgets. So happy that Colleen O’Shaughnessy was kept in the role, she never fails to bring so much life and heart to the role. Knuckles is a wonderful return to form as a legitimate and capable badass and opponent with a touch of his own naivety, while also being a noble individual and responsible for a good chunk of the movie’s humor with his Draxx-like literal mindedness. Baby!Knuckles was also a surprise treat I wasn’t expecting. And their friendships/eventual brother bonds with Sonic were a delight. The Emeralds were amazing, Super Sonic looked and was just INCREDIBLE. The movie of course has its flaws and shortcomings, but I still had a blast. My first viewing of the movie got an uproarious applause from the audience at the end and especially for the midcredits scene. I knew the moment the agent said “dating back over 50 years” and I was screaming. And during my seventh viewing, I got the grand treat to join several more highly ecstatic adults in hype over Shadow. Completely uncoordinated, we all yelled “LETS GOOOOOOOOO SHADOW’S IN SONIC 3!!!” I look forward to my many more future theater visits to support this movie however I can.
I'm with you too, dude: I like the wedding scene for some reason; it's a nice distraction from the usual Sonic tropes and some crazy shenanigans you've seen for the last hour, not to mention give some of the key human characters to shine! Also, did you know that when Agent Stone browses for Robotnik's potential costumes in the Mean Bean Coffee shop, there's actually a nod to (not the classic Eggman costume from the Genesis days!) the Super Robotnik suit (with the giant 'R' insignia on it albeit with different colors) from the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon?
🌀Sonic had some great character development in this movie. 🦊 Tails not so much but worked just as fine. Loved those references. 🥊Knuckles' character was quite funny even though we had to take him seriously. Overall they did great in pulling this off!
Knuckles: (when Sonic goes Super) "Don't touch him! He is not the hedgehog you once knew!" (Sonic summons two chili dogs from the heavens, one lands on Knuckles' face) Knuckles: "...Never mind. He is EXACTLY the hedgehog you once knew."
I actually loved the wedding scene too. BUT... The one thing I feel that coulda made it work for the people who thought it coulda been cut is to just put Amy Rose in that scene. Like just have her show up through another ring just as the G.U.N. kidnaps Sonic and Tails, so she helps the human characters rescue them. We get a scene of her hanging outside the golf cart smacking agents with her hammer? That woulda been epic.
That could’ve really worked… BUT lol… I think they didn’t want to overload the fans with characters they haven’t hinted at via trailers or the post credit sequence. I think that in the upcoming market for the third film, we get what we got previously when Tails got introduced in the post credit sequence and we got Knuckles in the trailer.
There were three perfect moments for the game music to play especially in the first scene. Could've had Escape from the City play on the radio during that chase. Also liked how Sonic used a Sanic puppet as a cover only for it to be disembodied in the end. **Spoiler for end credits** Kinda wish they had Metal Sonic as the next villian but maybe Sonic CD is too deep cut for fans of the 2000s games.
Jim retiring after doing the Sonic movies... Sonic is going to be the series that sees him off... Dude, Sega NEEDS to honor this! No now just a cameo... Jalee Whites to TALK to Sonic, imagine him giving Sonic the stranger danger advice from the cartoon.. XD
I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. And the temple sequence really did remind me of the game. This might be the best video game adaptation franchise out there right now.
One reference I haven't seen anyone else mention; When Robotnik friggin grabs the Master Emerald, he yells, "CHAOS...IS...POWERRRR" I feel like that's a reference to the Tikal prayer in Sonic Adventure "The servers are the seven chaos *CHAOS IS POWER* Power enriched by the heart The user is the one that unifies the chaos" I can't be the only one who noticed
You know, I was hoping you would mention the Black Mamba suit from Megamind when Agent Stone was browsing suit designs for Robotnik Also, imagine Jaleel White voicing Shadow. When you said "Can he voice Shadow?", I laughed so hard, I actually hurt my throat. Best line of 2022 so far 😆👍🏼
The one this that was amazing was when Eggman took the Master Emerald he screamed "Chaos Is Power!" Which is the beginning of the prayer Tikal and Knuckles used in the games before making a wish on the Emerald. It was a nice touch.
Dont under estimate the grape thing. That was straight out of the sonic the hedgehog 3 manual.... or was it S&K manual. Either way they give a synopsis about each character and they specifically mention knuckles' favorite food as grapes. They did their MFin' research for sure, that's a deep cut throwaway factoid. Now I just want knuckle's movie to be Knuckles Chaotix so I can get my Espio the Chameleon on the big screen along with Vector, Charmy, and Mighty. I never thought in a million years that we could actually have a chance of seeing the Chaotix on the big screen.
Would have loved some classic motifs and music from the actual games outside of the ringtone. I definitely had some "old-man-yells-at-cloud" moments due to all the zoomer/gen-Z pop music and dance routines, but then they throw in a gen-X metal tune (death egg robot scene), which is a nutty juxtaposition, but I kinda dig it. As much as I want more boomer and gen-X metal in kids' movies, I would rather have actual Sonic music. I want to see it again, when I have more energy and don't have a headache.
Funny enough, Sonic did that whole "🎵Worst🎵" bit in that OK KO episode. 😄 That foot tap bit was a reference to the opening scene in Sonic '06. Seen this movie 3 days in a row. It was so awesome. As a Sonic fan, it made me so happy to hear everyone get hyped when certain scenes happened. 😁
I loved this movie SO MUCH. One thing I noticed which made me laugh was Sonic cutting away the head on the Death Egg Robot to expose Robotnik - it reminded me of the first movie where the little robot cut the top off of Tom's truck! I was like 'wait, did he just avenge Tom's truck? Was that intentional?'
I get the same feeling from Sonic 2 that I get when watching a good Muppets movie. Just a dumb, fun, funny kids movie that's not trying to win awards, or reinvent anything, just a fun movie that set out from the start to be a fun movie and a love letter to fans. Much like Muppets Most Wanted. Sonic 2 is the Muppets Most Wanted of the Sonic franchise.
A part of me was lowkey hoping that in the dance scene, they played “It’s Tricky” by Run DMC, so it will feel like a G-rated White Chicks reference. Jokes aside, the movie truly lives up to the hype.
The crowd DID go wild at the end after the credits and I even screamed “SHADOW!” amongst the screams in the theater! It was the ultimate fangasm! I need a cigarette now.. jk I don’t even smoke 😝
When Sonic turned into Super Sonic, that whole thing with Eggman reminded me of the opening from Sonic Unleashed. Also, I was reminded of Sonic Heroes when Team Sonic started fighting all the robots
Bro, I agree with you! The wedding scene was actually enjoyable! And I really appreciate the Black representation involved in a Sonic movie, including Idris Elba. Wish Jaleel White could’ve had a cameo somewhere in there too though! The ❤️ wants what 😍 wants 😂😂!
Also love the fact they made one version of the poster to look like the cover for the Sonic 2 game on Genesis. You can tell there is a lot of passion behind the movie.
This movie was so awesome!!! Also I'm pretty sure the part where Knuckles knocks the Master Emerald out of Robotnik was just like how Knuckles knocked the Chaos Emeralds out of Super Sonic in Sonic 3&K. That part was so badass and faithful, much like a good chunk of this movie.
Some potential references you missed: one of the guys that walked through the portal in the beginning was carrying a glowing red hammer. I'm 80% certain this is Amy's Piko Piko hammer. Also, that red-eyed holo-Sonic could also be an allusion to Metal Sonic since he has red eyes as well, and is Robotnik's creation. Also, many Sonic fans have noticed that "Uptown Funk" actually sounds a lot like the Japanese boss theme for Sonic CD, so that might be why it was in this movie. Also, notice how in the Sonic Vs. Knuckles fight scene Knuckles was throwing many many punches in the air, making it look like he has many arms? Thats a direct reference to Knuckle's fight with Sonic in Sonix X, where he does the same exact move. Also, speaking of Knuckles, his father is heavily implied to be the leader of the Echidna tribe. I've no doubt in my mind that Knux's father is none other than Pachacamac from SA1. (Who is also Tikal's father *hint* *hint* *nudge* *nudge* *wink* *wink*) And at the end of the movie, the actually show Knuckle's ability to reform the Master Emerald after its been shattered from Sonic Adventure 1 and 2. And to believe people like Arlo had the balls to claim this movie was unfaithful.
^^ I loved the wedding scenes too! It was just so funny and visually awesome! That one item that sent an agent up to the sky had me deceased XD I had a great time with this movie and loved all the references. I definitely lost my mind when Super Sonic showed up and then I screamed when Shadow appeared! Bow your heads low! All hail Shadow!!! I love these movies ;-;
The wedding scene was my favorite too. It gave the live action members a chance to shine and it reinforces the message of the movie which is taking responsibility for certain actions and keeping family together - birth and/or chosen. I really enjoyed this movie and I’m so excited for the sequel, especially with that smooth Project Shadow reveal!
12:24 They DO, Amy. Y'all just ignoring them at first glance and move to a sequel/remake, then get mad when that "original" film doesn't get enough attention EVEN THOUGH you're part of the crowd who didn't ;P
I hope all the sonic voice actors get cameos and I hope we get David Humphrey or Jason Griffith as shadow I'd even take kirk Thornton as shadow in the 3rd movie or if they recast him again I'd like Charlie Cox to play him
Here's how they can put Jaleel White in for a cameo: Have him and Sonic's other voice actors sitting at a table. Drummond, Griffith, and Smith. All telling rumored stories that they heard about Sonic that all pertain to the media they were in. White can talk about AoStH or SatAM or even SU. Then the other chime in with games they were the voice for.
@@Conradd-O-Lantern That'd be pretty cool too. Smith - Whatever happened to that guy the uh... baldy mcnosehair guy? Drummond - The blue thing beat him down, it was amazing! White - Man, that's way past cool. Audience goes wild.
I watched this movie last week and I just love the movie. It's twice as fun as the first one (or is it three times as fun here?) I was doing my best to look for as much references from the Sonic series as I can. The characters (and even Jim Carry) are perfect in their own way. And I love it. I'm hyped for the next movie. I hope it's a amazing as this one.
My favorite reference is that when Knuckles bursts down the wall for the Master Emerald shrine, you can clearly see the Perfect Chaos mural from Sonic Adventure!
My sister was the one that caught this, but did anyone notice that at the battle with Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles that Tails picked up Sonic and spin him around while he turned into a ball and hit one of Eggman's robots? She said that was a Sonic Heroes reference, it's one of the attack moves you can perform when you pick Tails to lead.
Amazing movie, took my daughters (both 7 & long time sonic fans because of me) and some friends, one of which had a 4 year old (was his first movie EVER, & Shadow was his favorite Sonic character) and his mothers name is actually Maria as well 😭 People were popping off and ngl I cried at the end. Can’t wait for the third movie 😩
