Yeah this got posted at noon but without the last 9 mins. sorry. to save yourself from internet Hate Bugs, go to NordVPN.com/Quinton and use code QUINTON to to get 75% off a 3 year plan.
Bumblebee not being a Volkswagen Beetle was not a choice entirely made by Bay, since Volkswagen absolutely refused to have their cars associated with "war toys" until just a couple years ago. I hate to defend Bay, but making the change in Bee's alt-mode Bay's fault is entirely disingenuous.
@@RonquixoteDIII The reservations Volkswagen had toward Transformers are well-known in much of the deeper Transformers community (though I cant say how involved Quinton is, obviously). After some more research, it can be inferred that the reservations stem from vehicles designed by Ferdinand Porsche, of which the Beetle is one of, were used in the original Go-Bots line exclusively as villains due to their designer, so Volkswagen refused to be involved with "war toys" until just a few years ago. Calling it disingenuous was a step too far, I admit, but it's a clear distinction to make.
I sense genuine happiness in your voice during that last part. It really sounds like you've gotten a long lost friend back, and I am so incredibly happy for you.
The sad part though, for me, is seeing the opening for it. $8 million is much lower than any other Transformers movie. All of those Transformers movies have given the series such negative..."karma" for lack of a better word?...that, the second it took the "Transformers" name off of the title, but still made it clear that it was a "Transformers movie," it didn't perform nearly as well (so far). It feels like a betrayal. THIS is the good movie! THIS is the one that actually performed well! So WHY DIDN'T THEY GIVE THIS THE PROMOTIONAL LOVE?? Even with the lesser returns that this is probably going to have (hopefully the great reviews that it's getting from people and critics will turn that around), I hope that the studio sees that this is what a good movie looks like, and they do that with the next "main" Transformers movie. Bring Travis Knight on to direct, bring all of the characters in, and promote the everloving shit out of it. Give a GOOD Transformers movie the big push.
Mikkmakk - as someone who grew up at that time and loved the series (including the more "serious" evolution that the comics had), that's exactly what it is. The original Transformer movies essentially ripped the heart out of what the series was, filled it with generic, unoriginal material, and then to boot shredded the designs as to make them unrecognizable. This actually looks like what someone would make who 1) loved the series the way many of us do, and 2) is talented as hell. It's a real emotional win for a lot of us.
I've never seen a single Herbie movie, but since Bumblebee features Stan Bush's "The Touch", while the other Herbie movies persumably do not feature it, it's safe to assume that it is by default, the best Herbie movie. Coincidentally, The Touch is also featured in The Transformers: The Movie from 1986. Could this indicate that Bumblebee is actually a Transformers movie?
@@amberbaum4079 I haven't watched the first Transformers movie. (Having been raised on Beast Wars, the idea of so many human characters threw me off, even as the OG series ... had human characters.), but given that there are 6 full size decipticons and like 4 of they are black or dark grey is pretty rough. I will give that an OG style Megatron being grey and black is fine, but starscream should have a different color scheme, and like, in ever other appearance I can find he does.
Now we need to turn this into a franchise where a different Transformed gets stranded on earth and makes friends in every installment. I can't wait for "Optimus Prime" where he adopts three homeless children and some stray kittens and "Megatron" where he gets amnesia and helps a girl open a bakery. The movie ends with Megatron being rescued, regaining his memories and becoming the laughing stock of the Decepticons.
Bumblebee being a love bug is great cause of design “rules” that state that the more round a character is the more friendly they look. When the character has lots of edges they look more evil. So yeah, Bumblebee is shaped like a friend in this movie.
Unicorn Tsuki NC It also helps that his body isn't 80% metal car engine parts. If you wanted to hug him without getting burned or electrocuted, you could.
You joke, but I feel like the way they fixed the designs for the Bayformers was by taking the G1 designs and throwing a coat of Gundam-esque detailing on them.
My friend John watching trailers before Into The Spiderverse starts: *We both see the Bumblebee trailer* "Glad to see Herbie is back in action." Now I come home to see this. Thank you, Quinton.
Tropical Pepper I'm just glad you chose to watch Spider verse instead. Bumblebee really isn't very good once you start thinking about it and apply even the barest amount of logic to it (By which I mean logical choices and rules set up in the movie world) Many parts don't make sense, or are contrived to the point that it feels like a child wrote the script.
The thing is, we probably could have, because Travis Knight's Bumblebee movie seems pretty dam similar to the original pitch that Spielberg had for a Transformers movie. He saw the movie as being primarily about the bond between a boy and his first car, which turns out to be a fugitive robot on the run. However Spielberg didn't actually want to direct the film himself and handed the project over to Bay, thinking he was a good fit for the material (for some reason), and that's seems to be where that more heart-felt family-friendly treatment on the material got developed into the 14-year old boy's militant wet dream that we ended up with instead.
@@MetalVII I had a feeling he was still involved pretty closely with "Bumblebee". I mean if you have a guy who's been doing films(regardless of their declining quality) on these characters for ten years, you're gonna as him for some advice and had him supervising the action scenes. I mean, it's not like they had him in some undersized dog cage with nothing but a pen, notepad, and orders to take notes.
Quinton, I feel like I can relate to everything you say in this video. I grew up on Herbie, which gave me an interest in cars which led me to Transformers. And this movie feels like the labor of love I’ve been longing for
Hey Quinton. This Video is great. This is probably the best one I've seen by you so far. The idea to compare Bumblebee with Herbie works really great, the Nord VPN sponsorship "joke" in the middle of it was really well done (srsly this is how one should include a sponsorship thingie, it really felt like it is part of the flow of the video), and most of all it was really a joy to see how you enjoyed talking about this movie. So yea. Just wanted to tell you that this video is great and that i really enjoyed it. So thanks for that, and happy holidays :)
When has shockwave not been at least a purple boi even when he was a mini con he was purple and when Shockwave is not Shockwave (Shockblast) then he's always been a one handed one eyed boi
@@diegodankquixote-wry3242 With all do respect, I want to mush your head with a vice for using "boi" so much. The Shockwave in this movie is literally just a super enhanced version of the Shockwave in the G1 show. Meanwhile, in the one other live action Transformers movie he was in, he was this weird shiny thing that was all pointy and ugly.
@@Idothinkysaurus *🅱oi.* I honestly think movie shockwave one of a few designs that actually looks like the character is suppose to be. I will say dotm shockwave was a little... Wide.
9:33 Quinton, you don't have the right to hug Herbie like that. It's the type of thing that shouldn't be so cute. It just shows how much love you have for both series, and both bugs. And it made me feel a little of love too.
Quinton and Bumblebee reminds me a lot of myself at parties where I don't really know many people. I try to stay on their topics and be civil and funny, but the second, THE SECOND, they bring up a topic I personally know and love, I'M ON THAT SHIT.
(I'm just going to say what I said last time) the reason I think the og herbie movies are great as they have a good way of giving him character and emotion just through his beeps and movement (unlike fully loaded with tried to give him a face) and I think that's why I like him so much.
Quinton real talk: do you think that they could use the success of this movie to springboard a new Transformers movie franchise - one that is more accurate to the original cartoon? And if so, how do you imagine they would go about it?
I was skeptical of seeing bumblebee, the feeling of disappointment with the transformers film franchise was just depressing, but seeing your video really opened my eyes. For the first time in a very long time, I’m actually looking forward to a transformers film. Thank you Quinton
Being a HUGE fan of both Herbie and Bumblebee, I'm surprised how you made this connection. Your analogy truly holds water and I also stand behind it. This movie is seriously entertaining, and the way Bumblebee is portrayed is pure bliss, fun and emotion. Great video. Thanks.
I always love how your reviews are more than reviews. Your personal history with the topic, the connections you make to other material, and your humor all come together in a great way! awesome video!
i love this review. it's just so real and you can tell it's coming from an important place in your heart. you have definetly convinced me to see this movie.
Bree Lynch sometimes making a movie that’s good takes more than the studio method can do, no matter how much money you throw at it. The best they hope for is pleasing focus groups and turning a profit. Meanwhile great movies are never given a wide distribution because ‘no one will want to see them’ due to the impression that the movie going audiences are morons.
Because with Transformers, when you make bad movies, people still go to see the movies! though that trend has started to fail them; as the Last Knight flopped hard.
this was a really sweet review. i was actually going into the movie hoping for the same experience you had. bee is the heart and soul of the franchise and i've needed a movie that shows him for the love bug he really is my entire life. it's actually funny you made the link between herbie and bee because i've been making the same joke my entire life. they're great characters. i was gonna see the movie anyway, i felt kind of obligated as someone who's favorite transformers are bumblebee and starscream. i needed to see if it was good or bad with my own two eyes. i'm so relieved to find out this one is good though. i was getting real sick of walking out of theaters angry. honestly, i might fucking cry during this movie. anyway great review and happy holidays! i guess you could say this movie is a christmas miracle.
Oh man, I didn't plan to see it in theaters, but you're so happy about it I guess I'll have to check it out! I'm glad this really touched you, man, it's hard to find something like this these days.
I had the exact experience you talked about at the end! I went in having only ever seen the first Bayformers movie (which I thought sucked, and thus didn’t watch any of the other movies), and came out having fallen in love with Bumblebee and already craving more. I’m so hoping this movie does well! It’s nice to see Transformers fans happy about a movie for once.
I think that Bumblebee's alt mode should have always been a VW beetle. A VW is a better alt mode for a scout class as it would attract less attention than a Camaro.
My friends all hated this movie, but I feel like they went in hostile to it. They were picking apart every little thing they could. I feel like the Bay Transformer movies have soured the brand so much in some people's minds that they won't accept anything to do with it now, because this was a perfectly fine movie.
As much as I loved the original Transformers cartoon Bumblebee was the only one of the toys I owned. Part of that was because he was my favorite, part of that was just the expense of the other toys. My parents didn't mind getting me both Barbie and GI Joe, but Transformers was just a little too much money-wise. And yes, a big reason I hated the Bay movies was Bumblebee not being a Volkswagen. I know the company didn't want their car associated with violence, but to me it would be better to leave Bumblebee out completely rather than make him a different car.
I’ve never really watched any of the Transformers movies, but I’ll have to go see this one. It’s always great when a classic franchise falls in the hands of a competent filmmaker and the happiness in Quinton’s voice shows exactly why.
Love bumblebee, even though i grew up with the bay films and animated, i watch and want to watch all the transformers cartoons and movies. Especially if bumblebee is there.
The best change here is the character design. I mean, look at Michael Bay's Bumblebee, he looks like a crappy sculpture made of rusty scrap metal from some junkyard. Touching him would probably electrocute me or burn my hand. The new Bumblebee looks cute and huggable and not like a mutated car engine.
I agree 100%. My 17 year old daughter is a bumblebee lover from the g1 series. When she was a little girl I gave her my transformers and introduced her to the g1 cartoons. When the movies came out we were disappointed with the transformers design and plot. They did fix everything with the Bumblebee movie, however I don't think they are smart enough to keep it going like this. My daughter even cried watching the movie. I would like to see them take the original designs and just simply use the animated Transformers movie and bring it to life.
Just saw this today and loved it. As someone who didn't grow up with the animated series, it's so cool to finally understand why people love these characters.
I've been telling people its like Herbie since I saw it yesterday but everyone else I've seen have been comparing it to the Iron Giant. Glad to see there are other people that are like-minded.
this is perhaps the most wholesome Quinton reviews video, and it gave me a feeling that I don't often feel watching youtube creators. You can really FEEL how much Quinton loved talking about this subject. this is my new favorite video on this channel. :)
14:18 wait a mute... this aint Herbie... THIS IS THE IRON GIANT! ...also rip cliffjumper he will be remembered... for being that one red bbee clone that always dies.
"If you go in knowing nothing about any of this you will leave a fan" confirmed. I brought my BFF with me to the movie who knows nothing about transformers. She was on the edge of the seat living with bumblebee while i was enjoying the action, the plot and the graphics and almost crying bc it was so good.
Humans watch Angry Joe's Movie reviews? I mean I stopped caring about his game reviews years ago, but I always remember the whole fan-base didn't like the mere presence of them (the movie reviews).
I grew up on the transformers movie from the 80’s, my brother and I bonded over that series when we were little and again when we grew up. Thanks for putting words to what I never could, man, I really appreciate it.
I actually had an idea about picking up Bumblebee action figure as a Volkswagen Bug and repainting it into Herbie. Then I could have a Herbie that is a Transformer!
