"Have you ever been treated like an absolute nothing, then tossed around like a salad and had your arm ripped off without any warning?" "Oh yes, several times. I really dug it."
Futurama actually stole this plot for one of their episodes. For Hermy Conrad wanting to be a robot and starts replacing his various parts. On whole this episode was really well written.
@@mrfivegold It's a pretty simple concept, itself already something of a twist. The only added twist you can give it is to make it about a living being with an ostensible soul/identity. I'd bet this has been done in a lot of media over the years.
@@devinpaul9026 but thats the thing isn't it, if its that simple why haven't we seen it used more often. If anything I think modern scifi is plagirizing old scifi.
I watched this episode for the first time when I was 6 years old, and remember it quite vividly. Today used the principles of systemic replacement of individual parts at the cost of completely losing integrity or 'soul' as displayed in this episode, as a means to criticize the reformatory practices at our department. People attending the meeting were quite blown away about the visually tantalizing concepts, and the liked the way a Saturday morning cartoon was a good means of translating the University's woes. I just came back to find this episode, and watch it again after 26 years. It has learned me much about the world.
@@devinpaul9026Everyone in this show was so nice to eachother. Bumpy and Squishington were totally there to help their friend even if it meant giving her a gun for an arm.
I always wonder, how are they able to reuse certain animation cycles and yet make it look like they're freshly animated? For example, the parts with Squishy and Bumpy, you only see Bumpy's eyes move, and Squishy's head/upper lip move. I've noticed them over and over, yet they somehow mange to make it look like those movements were made for this and every episode they appear in. Sorry just something I could never figure out.
Yeah for stop motion I have no idea how that works oh that's right so it may look like Clay but they have preset shapes that they swap out to speed things up at least that's how a lot of productions do this
Man, this is the only episode of this show I remember, though I'm sure I watched several others. It was a decent introduction to sci-fi parallels like bodymods in cyberpunk genres and philosophy quandaries like Theseus' Ship. I mean, It's been 30 years, and I never forgot it.
S: "Molly, I think you've gone mad with power." M: "Of course I've gone mad with power. You ever try going mad without power? It's useless. No one takes you seriously."
Molly:Have you ever been treated like an absolute nothing then tossed around like a salad and had your arm ripped off without any warnings? Mr Bumpy:Oh yes;several times. I really dug it. LOL Well duh if he's Mr Bumpy he should.
Yo man thank you for putting up this awesome work of animation. I still remember waking up at 6am to watch this and sonic the hedgehog. God those were good times! Not like the Adventure Time crap they show nowadays.
Is this episode a metaphor for drug use or something? Like, "Stay away from meth?" Or something as simple as "Be happy with what you've got?" Regardless, it's delivered pretty damn well and... quite graphic. Animation is really good, it's like a totally realistic and darker version of Toy Story, these poltergeist incrnations own the floor when the lights go out. Totally Awesome!
As I recall, Captain Jetlag survives. After Bumpy, Molly, and Squishington get out of the lungfish, Bumpy challenges the lungfish to a razzing contest, which ultimately causes him to burp out the Captain.
WHOOT!!!I used to watch this when I was six.Eight years later,I find that you've posted my childhood memories.Thank you so much!!! ((And yes,Gillder,Molly has gone Cuckoo for cocoa puffs.XD Osmosis Jones joke, had to be there.))
Media consolidation is partly to blame. The bigger and fewer the media companies, the fewer risks they make. That means boring shows that can be hits instantly even if they aren't any good. The executives try to control too much now, instead of letting the creatives do the show the way they want to do.
I was quite disturbed by this too. I remember seeing one episode that had something to do with a ship sinking but they were inside a character's stomach or something... and the captain went down with the ship, and I had nightmares about it for a few years.
I didn't know they made Bump in the Night merchandise. The closest I ever saw to any merchandise was many years ago, a VHS with a bunch of the Karaoke Cafe songs on it.
My goodness, I remembered it better than I thought. Doing some research, I found out that the episode title is "Journey to the Center of the Lungfish". "Bumpy, Squishington, and Molly are swallowed by a lungfish. Inside, they meet Captain Jetlag (a silverfish) who tries to help them sail out of the fish." Could someone please post this? I would like to face my fears sometime or another and get that thing out of my head.
ive been lookin for ages...just found it on google...just google mr bumpy, and theres a site that has all the songs on it...laughed my ass off....i still sing it to the wife whenever we have a row,,,,hahahaha class
I think it's something to do with the nurturing provided by cartoons when we are young and the familiarity of them, that can confuse us into finding such once innocent things attractive to us, as that is what is relevant in us now.
I know!!! I remeber watching this stuff all the time when i was a kid. Now when you turn on ABC Its some crap with miashapen pastel charecters with no personality what so ever D: Bring back 90's TV!!! Screw cencorship! Its better for kids to learn life lessons that matter!
hi! i'm spanish, can anybody subtitugsfgsd (whatever) translate this chapter? agh! sorry for my terrible way of speak english, but i'm spanish and a little dumb. Kisses for everyone
Hahahaha!! Oh man, that is actually pretty clever, but probably a combination of drugs and plastic surgery, you can totally see it in her facial expressions, she's hooked.
I missed cartoons like this, and ed edd and eddy, and dexters laboratory, they actually made you feel involved of the show, and they sucked you in to them. Alot of cartoons now days are kind of just bland recycled jokes and mindless random crap that,by itself, has no humor.
I remember renting this show from the VCR store and watching it every night. Then they took out the VCR store and replaced it with a coffee shop. Now the cartoons are stupid and pointless. WTF has this world come to???
