#roofmossremoval, #bungalowroofclean, #prestigeexternalcleaning,
Here we are on another roof clean, this time it's a bungalow with a fair amount of moss. On this one we used around 100 bar of pressure using cold water through a turbo nozzle, standing on one level of our scaffold tower.

One of the best roof jobs on RU-vid. I’m going to be adding this service soon, people round here charge £600+ for roof cleaning, I’ve been asked for it loads of times but when I give that price no one wants to pay it by any means 😂
@PrestigeExternalCleaning
@PrestigeExternalCleaning 3 года назад
Thank you Chris, you're going to give me a big head mate 😁. Yeah, you need to stick to your guns on the pricing, if you're not getting good money for it, it's not worth doing. There's so much work involved, most potential customers just don't understand that. Out of every 10 jobs I quote, I only get 2 or 3, and it's mainly because people have an unrealistic expectation of cost and how much work is involved. Don't drop your prices too much buddy, you'll only regret it. Good luck with it, don't let the "too expensive" people get you down, you will find people that will pay what you want, you've just got to keep quoting, and it'll happen. 👍🙂.

This is amazing!! Why do I hear other ppl say roof tops can not/ should not be pressure washed and should only be scraped and soft washed? This seemed to be much more efficient and less potential for damaging. I've heard that comment for all roof materials and I don't understand why.
@PrestigeExternalCleaning
@PrestigeExternalCleaning 3 года назад
Hi Missy Dee, thank you, you're very kind. Unfortunately cleaning a roof using this method will always divide opinion. No matter what I say to some people, how well I explain the process, demonstrate it in some cases or even provide references from many a happy customer, some people are just dead against it, and are convinced it will damage or even destroy a roof, and nothing will change their mind. One of the big problems we have in our industry, is there are a lot so called professionals that clean roofs by pressure washing incorrectly, by using far too much pressure, by spraying up the roof instead of down it, and by walking on tiles that crack easily and then cause lots of damage, which then leads to water ingress. If a roof isn't already leaking before we get there, then with the method we use, it won't leak when we clean it. I hope this goes some way to answering you question. All the best, Nick.🙂. P.S Some tiles like shingle, or very old brittle clay tiles can't be pressure washed, as it would damage them, even on super low pressure. But most tiles, in my experience, can be, with no detrimental effect to the tiles.

Hi juliusmotocikli, the flat surface cleaner's are only really effective on flat tiles, or low profile shaped tiles, as the spinning arm can catch and crack raised profiled tiles. On roof tiles like this, with this amount of moss, the only real option in my opinion, is to use a turbo nozzle. Cheers 🙂.

What is best the turbo nozzle or the mosomatic and why do you use both . thanks for making such interesting content I find it very helpful.
@PrestigeExternalCleaning
@PrestigeExternalCleaning 3 года назад
Hi Bobby, the best all rounder is a turbo nozzle, as you can do 95% of roofs with just that. The Mosmatic is good on flat tiles and for getting the job done quicker, but on most profiled tiles, you can't use it ,as the spinning arm can catch the tiles and crack them. I use a turbo nozzle most of the time, but it's definitely worth having a small rotary cleaner for when the conditions are right to use it, ie, not much moss on the roof, and the tiles are flat. Thanks for your great feedback, it's much appreciated. Nick.

@@Rivaboyz1987 I guess it depends on the pressure washer. A turbo nozzle makes good use of pressure. I use a 130 bar / 1900 psi pressure washer which puts out around 7L per minute, and it cleans very effectively and quickly. Not powerful enough for a surface cleaner but more than enough for a turbo nozzle, and a customers water supply is more than efficient for that. Im told the pressure can damage tiles. What pressure is it running at?
@PrestigeExternalCleaning
@PrestigeExternalCleaning 3 года назад
Hi TopEnder 557, using high pressure can damage and scar tiles, especially if the operator doesn't know what they're doing. Unfortunately there are a lot people out there that don't know how to do it properly, so they give pressure washing roofs a bad name. If pressure washing a roof is carried out properly, safely and using the correct pressure, it won't cause any damage to the tiles at all. On this job I was running at around 100 bar in pressure, which is enough to remove the moss without damaging the tiles.

It is really not recommended to clean a roof with a pressure washer will damage the tiles ‘Just ask any decent roofer will tell you the same
@PrestigeExternalCleaning
@PrestigeExternalCleaning 3 года назад
@@jaysmith2562 That really is just a matter of opinion Jay. I can assure you, that at the low pressure we use to clean roofs, it causes no damage what so ever. I’ve been cleaning roofs this way for 10 years, and not had one complaint or any problems. My retired Uncle owned and ran a very successful roofing business, and his opinion is that if a roof can’t withstand being pressure washed using low pressure, then its not a well built roof in the first place. Yes I’ve heard roofers saying the same as what you’ve said, but I’ve also equally heard lots of roofers say it won’t cause any problems if done correctly. I’m also aware of some roofers that have given up roofing to start cleaning roofs like this full time. I respect your and their opinion, and see where that type of thinking comes from, I just don’t agree with it. 👍.

Can this damage the roof at all?
@PrestigeExternalCleaning
@PrestigeExternalCleaning 3 года назад
It can if the operator uses too much pressure and points the nozzle up the roof instead of pointing it level with or down the roof. It's people like that, that cause damage and leaks, and in turn, can give roof cleaners that use the correct method a bad name. In this video we're using low pressure and pointing the nozzle down the roof.

Yes, the alternative is to scrape them, then soft wash.

Is this a purely aesthetic treatment or can moss build up cause real damage?
@PrestigeExternalCleaning
@PrestigeExternalCleaning 3 года назад
Hi Kiz_ Toxinious, thanks for your question, it's a good one. In our experience ,It's very rare for customers to enquire into roof cleaning for aesthetic reasons, it's nearly always because they are sick of their gutters getting blocked up with lumps of moss, or because they're sick of it always falling onto their driveway or patio, or both those reasons. Moss can damage concrete and clay roof tiles, but again, in our experience, only in extreme cases, when the moss is covering a large percentage of the roof, and has been there a long time.

It’s a pity that both halves didn’t do it, it is poor aesthetics when semidetached houses end up looking like a split building.

Just a suggestion if you started your soft wash from the top the excess would run down the roof softening the dirt or debris below thus making it easier and surely making it more economic with chemical usage and financially therefore more profitable
@PrestigeExternalCleaning
@PrestigeExternalCleaning 3 года назад
Thank you for your suggestion, but, the pressure washer has already removed 99% or more of any debris, only minuscule organic matter is left behind, the soft washing by brush is simply to coat and kill the 1% or less still on the roof, it's not to soften or remove it, so working top to bottom or vice versa makes no difference to how easy it is. We work bottom to top because starting from the top can sometimes cause streak marks as it runs down the roof unevenly. Each and every tile has to be saturated with chemical, so again, it makes no difference whether you start from the bottom or top, as we'll be using the same amount of chemical to coat each and every tile. By starting from the bottom, all the tiles get a thorough, more even soaking, as they are covered over and over again until we reach the top. Even if what i've said above wasn't the case, as a business we are more interested in carrying out a job more thoroughly and to a high standard than saving a few quid on relatively cheap chemicals.

@@PrestigeExternalCleaning I think hes talking about if you start from the top it would drop downwards therefore covers the roof with the chlorine. Makes a lot of sense .less waste you could literally spray half the roof and the excess chlorine has already covered the roof instead of down the drain pipes . As a test bed plug your rain water pipe up and see if the gutter fills up this way youd know how much chlorine your wasting .
@PrestigeExternalCleaning
@PrestigeExternalCleaning 3 года назад
@@tristancraven3685 Thank you Tristan, but i'm well aware of what he's talking about and the point he's trying to make, I just don't agree with it. My aim is to soak and agitate every single roof tile with the brush for a more thorough result, because it really does make a difference to the appearance of the tiles . If i just wanted to cover the tiles with bleach then I would use a low pressure spray without using a brush. And even then your theory wouldn't work, because the tiles would have to be flat for the excess to flow down the roof and cover all the tiles below. These tiles are Spanish style and have a profile, which means the bleach would flow down the lowest point of the tile, completely missing the highest part of the tile, so I would still have to spray every single tile to make sure the highest part of the tile got treated. As previously mentioned, every tile has to be covered and physically agitated with the brush, so it makes no difference whether I start from the top, bottom, left or right, I will use exactly the same amount of chemical regardless of which direction it is carried out from. By starting from the bottom, the bleach flows down the roof much more evenly than if you started from the top, which then gives a much better finish. There is a reason I do it this way, this is something I have learnt over the years through experience and seeing the difference in results.
