Bungou* The official translation isn't always right. It's disturbing that English in Japan is taught this way, lying to them and saying it's okay to remove vowels in their translations... It's NOT okay. Especially when certain words have long vowels and it totally changes the meaning of the word. Just because everyone does it, does NOT mean it's correct. The truth is not determined by how many people are doing and saying the same thing. It is determined by facts and evidence.

This is true not only in Japan but also in Japanese names pronounced by foreigners. In Japan, most people never use English at all in their lives. English is not always necessary in life. Don't just complain about Japan; you should also complain about Japanese pronunciation in other countries.

And you are confusing katakana and actual english. kataKana is a borrowed word in Japanese. It is a way of reading the English pronunciation in katakana and using it as is in Japanese. It is originally English but still Japanese. It's the same way foreigners use karate or sushi with strange accents. But Japanese people don't care because it's already used as English. In many cases when people laugh and say "Japanese engrish", they are mistaking katakana loan word for English. Japanese people aren't trying to speak English, they just speak katakana Japanese. Just like saying karate doesn't mean you're trying to speak Japanese. In many case, foreigners' names are written in katakand and they just read katakana Japanese. not english.
