Continuing the Bunker project. Putting in a pipe for air/power and network. And fixing the tiny Rack in the bunker. I am really lousy at welding,, but gave it a go anyway.

-Flux welding- With out a respirator in a confined space and no eye protection is just crazy man. Protip, Buy a angle grinder and remove paint first it will weld a lot better, paint covers up bad welds really well.

Hi Morten, sorry for the late reply, been away for a while and just catching up.... For nearly 30 years I've been in the bodyshop/car repair trade, I've welded more rear panels, quarter panels, front panels and chassis leg ends into vehicle than I can remember, my tips would be... mark out the area on the bunker roof where the rack rail meets the roof and then remove the right side of the server rack completely and grind the roof marked out area back to bare shiny/clean metal, then also remove all the coating from the server rack rail (powder coating) that meets the roof and drill 3 or 4 small 10mm holes in the edge that touches the roof, then cover both area's of bare metal with what we call in the trade a 'weld through primer' usually a zinc/copper spray primer as this will help stop corrosion (as the bunker has so much humidity this will help a lot), then use your magnets to hold the joints tightly together and plug weld through the 3 or 4 small holes filling the holes with weld, bonding the rack rail and roof together, once cooled grind off all the excess weld and spray with an etch primer (usually a light yellow coloured primer), this will form a base for your normal grey based primer, then coat with the white of the bunker colour.... great video as always chief 👏👏👍👍

An air compressor will dehumidify the air a bit (you'll get water in the tank). So if you have a thin hose and use the pressure reducer they often have you might be good to go. Or skip the fresh air and just have a dehumidifier and the same air all the time. You get fresh air in when the lid opens and you get in. The dehumidifier water can be pumped up to the lid or passed via a hose to the data center.

just as an idea. Install another pipe on the other side and install a PC fan (e.g. 120mm) on the inside of the bunker where the vent pipe is installed to draw air from the "data center" and push it out. There are vent pipes like those used for WW2 bunkers. The water can't get in but the air can go out. So you have an airflow from the data center that is pushed out by the fan. You can even use a small solar panel to generate the power for the fan. But the air should move a bit on its own if you have the pipes at different heights. It's good that you've installed the pipes from the data center so low. Due to physics, the warm air rises and starts to circulate.

Morten, I'm welding for 3 years now. There's no reason to weld without an automatic-helmet. They cost around 40€. If your eyes get burned by the strong UV-light, the damage is permanent! Don't do this ever again! Never! And by the way: gasless (flux)-Welding without a special filtering face-piece is a really bad idea - especially in such a small space below ground-level!

@@MyPlayHouse This might be, but the UV is strong enough to burn your eyes through closed eye-lids. And it's also much much stronger than sunlight. It will burn your skin in short time. "Oh, your were on holidays. You're so brown." - "No holidays. I have welded." Believe me - burned skin from welding-radiation is no fun. Had it on my neck, even i had my helmet on.

I suggest a BBQ blower fan it has a 32mm outlet and made to run a long time. Also can put a mini dehumidifier in the data center next to that blower. Another idea for those supports JB Weld works good for that ind of thing.

Welding works best metal to metal, so cleaning the paint off first would likely help. Also you need to seal the pipe hole as soon as possible as it will start to let water and dirt inside. For airflow you need a return to extract warm air. Don't think you need a pump, trickle flow through the pipe should be enough. 👍

Get a small dehumidifier (klarstein), which have a water pump which you can connect a narrow gauge drain pipe which can go through the air pipe you’ve installed. You won’t be able to get enough moisture out of the air otherwise? To be honest it’s a huge challenge climactic wise to keep it dry enough in that tank. The temperature changes and the metal surface and the server heat when sealed will create condensation unless the air is kept dry.
@MyPlayHouse

@f-s-r

I think that you need a blower fan to push air thru a hose like that, or something that can pump air: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centrifugal_fan You will need to pump cold air into the bunker, as putting electronic equipment there will generate heat. Hot air can carry more moisture, and when it cools down against the cold metal walls it releases the moisture. That's what provokes condensation in the first place. Hot air is bad. You definitely don't want to pump hot air into the bunker. Or maybe install an air conditioning unit with dehumidification. Air won't be renewed in this way, but the same air will be refrigerated and dehumidified.
@MyPlayHouse
@MyPlayHouse 2 месяца назад
But if the tank is heated up a bit,, not as much water would be released from the air..
@f-s-r
@f-s-r 2 месяца назад
@@MyPlayHouse i think that doing that will cause condensation constantly, as the tank will always be colder than the air, because it's in contact with the terrain. I suppose that it's similar to defogging the car's windshield. When the cars had no AC they used hot air, but it didn't really work well. Using AC + heating works very well on the car, as it dehumidifies the air.

12:05 Do you think that it may be a 'good idea' to pour 5 or 6 inches of concrete, or less, into the hole before burying it with dirt? (Something to help seal it from water intrusion, etc.?) It may help to keep out water that may contain radioisotopes or other materials that you may not want. Ideally you would want to have a 4" to 6" outer pipe and then have your conduit inside of that, sealed at both ends with a few inches of concreted and sand in between (Sand is easy to remove with a shop vac if you need to service or replace and concrete will help to seal the ends. Perhaps that sounds too elaborate but you don't want anything getting in there and your connections to the outside world and entry point are actually the weak points in your bunker system. Just a thought....

For you hopeful welders out there, don't do what he does. Seriously. At the very least, wear eye protection. UV radiation is no joke and will absolutely burn your retinas faster than you can blink your eyelids shut.
@AlexanderJuholaJones
@AlexanderJuholaJones 2 месяца назад
Also, I think it's important to mention to everyone thinking about welding some stuff. Sunglasses will not protect your eyes from a welding arc. You must use a proper welding face shield and you must make sure that none of your skin is exposed to the UV radiation because it will burn you and can lead to skin cancer.

17:46 Only two thoughts for your edification on the welding projects: 1) I'm not scolding you in any way so please don't take offense. Whatever you do don't look directly at what you are welding; you should, ideally, have a welders mask/helmet for this process because, as you are probably aware, you can be permanently blinded by the high intensity electromagnetic radiation (UV) emitted during the welding process. (UV will go straight through your eyelids and destroy the cells in your eyeballs so closing your eyes is of no help and may even simply give you a nasty case of sunburn on your eyelids, you need to use a welding helmet and if you see any kind of white light while welding then you should find some way to block it). Seriously, check your welding habits and a welders mask is worth the price of your vision, get a good one and keep it in a place where it will stay in good condition for a long time. 2) How safe are the fumes released by the welding system that you are using? A respirator may be a good idea or at least a fan or another flexible pipe with air blowing into the 'bunker' to help evacuate the fumes created, so that you aren't forced to breath any concentrated fumes in such a confined space. There may be a residue left on the inside surfaces as well... What say you? As always best regards.

WHAT??? Soldering in a confined space (arc soldering emits dangerous gases), without any eye/face protection, with no ventilation in order to remove the hazardous gases, with nobody to help you if you are injured and you have to exit in an emergency. DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME. In my opinion, you should really consider removing the video; it is a very very bad example for hobbyists.
