I remember really wanting a Mewtwo toy and ended up getting Poliwhirl. I went to the cashier and asked if I could trade, and he actually let me! Man, those were good times.
I remember asking for a trade with the hot wheels cause I got the fucking AMBULANCE. What kind of kid wants that when all the other cars have FUCKING flames in them???
I remember on the news that one of those pokeballs got stuck to a baby's face and it actually died from suffocation. When these toys were brought back to Burger King they came in plastic bags instead.
@@veenatamara4543 Even for Kids' WB, they had old shows, even all eight seasons of the anime(excluding season 9, who was trash and so does modern Cartoon Network).
Hell yeah, we had some of the coolest toys back in the day. It's a shame cereal boxes don't even give away cool prizes anymore since the Great Recession, like diecast toy cars and Pop CDs... I kinda feel sorry for younger generations. Also, fancy seeing you here. I like your music videos.
If I remember correctly, the recall happened beacose of the death of a 2 year old, that put the poke all in her mouth. Because of that event burger King made a recall for all the poke balls.
@@brianodonnell4496 this promotion was from 1999, and it caused fights in restaurants for these damn toys! I remember two moms punching each other because one kid got a Pikachu, the other got a Blastoise, and because of the blind bag, she was pissed at the other, because she had swapped toys on the tray. It was a big mess, made worse by some baby choking on the ball, causing a recall.
"Burger King and the US Consumer Safety Commission want you to know about the voluntary recall of this Pokemon Pokeball. The ball may pose a suffocation hazard to children under three. Throw the ball away or return in to Burger King. The safety of your child is the utmost importance to us." - Female Narrator, Burger King Pokeball Recall Commercial, 1999
Back in early September 2001 on my first day of Kindergarten, I had a Pokemon bookbag with a Pokeball attached to it, and a special needs kid sucked the Pokeball after I hung up the bookbag. I was so pissed, but I let him keep it, of course...
Number 150: Pokémon foot lettuce, The last thing you want to catch in your poke ball is a failed clone of something legendary, but as it turns out, that might be what you catch.
I remember having at least some of the following figures: Sandslash, Cubone, and Polywag. My cousin had: Pikachu, Polywhirl, Golbat, Mewtwo, Diglett, Jigglypuff, and Bulbasaur.
And two months later, Burger King recalled the Pokemon Poke Ball because it was a suffocation hazard for children under 3. And the people who returned it to Burger King got a free order of fries
February of 2000. The Tie in was HUGE deal. I fondly remember because I worked there. BK also had a Tie In with Dreamcast regarding Crazy Taxi and Tower Records.
"Burger King and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission want you to know about the voluntary recall of this Pokémon Poké Ball. The ball may pose a suffocation hazard for children under three. Throw the ball away or return it to Burger King. The safety of your child is of the utmost importance to us."
Literally. It’s a shame that it happened, i wasn’t around when these were a thing but i heard they had nights where they would let kids trade cards and that sounded like fun
I wish Burger King made this return with more safety precautions for Pokémon Master Journeys with more toys and all 905 Pokémon trading cards (that include Mega Evolution, regional forms and Gigantamax forms)
this just reminded me of a time when I was at Burger King and a bunch of kids where there and I think they were kids from a school field trip to Burger King and they where screaming and throwing food around and a burger hit this guy in the head and he got up and started screaming at the kids to shut up and they stoped
Yeah in the early 2000s pokemon was everywhere, it was a phenomenon and it was strange to see these creatures in every products you can imagine, Pokemon is big today but back then was even bigger
Man, this much investment Burger King did, just for a kid to asphyxiate in the toy and then they have to recall everything Imagine how expensive that recall was...
I can't believe this was 20 years ago, holy fuck. I remember having Mewtwo, Poliwhirl, Gingar, Poliwrath and a few others. Too bad my parents made me get rid of them though
Apparently there was a recall of only the ball, as it posed a suffocation hazard to children under three. here's the recall video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-31O33zX3DBg.html
My local comic store has some of these (with the pokeball and everything!) and I picked up my favorite one of the bunch (Raichu). It doesn't light up anymore, but I'm happy to have this piece of Pokémon history regardless.
I always like to eat a burger and fries from this cafe in my neighborhood whenever I'm watching these videos. Trust me, it tastes so much better than Burger King does today.
