How does a feral cat get so fat like the black one at 8:30? You'd think outdoor living would keep them thin.

The failure in most of the cat trap design is the trap door itself. A small rubber bumper needs to be added to the ends of the cage frame where the door hits to prevent complete closure of the door so to have a gap when tripped and closed. In other words, prevent metal slamming against metal. The a one way ratchet hook could be added to the side so that nobody could open it. You would have a thumb release which would have to be depressed first before opening the door. I'm talking about such traps as "Havahart" such trap types and all those that are similar.

At the end I thought it would be a great day to drive to the lake.

What "shelter" are you talking about? Neither you, or anybody else, has a freakin "shelter". Just do your TNR and supply the food at this location. Somebody dumped cats or kittens there to begin with, which is how you got into this situation with, and obviously whoever runs this property couldn't care less. Just send someone out from time to time to feed just like any TNR colony.

Most of these cats aren't that feral. True feral cats you will RARELY if ever see. Let alone hanging around on porches and up on boxes in your presence. You could have dropped trapped alot of them.

It takes alot less energy to just mix antifreeze in with the cat food.

I could always catch any cats that came around at night with some tuna and a live trap. Turn them loose where there are a lot of coyotes and that takes care of the problem! Cats kill squirrels and the wild birds. They also pee on things and stink up the place. They kill lots of wild animals and sometimes even a few mice but they do more harm than good. If you think they deserve to live take them into your home and keep them there. Then you can brag on them all day long, otherwise you will find that there are more cat haters than lovers. It is because they do a lot of harm. An older lady close by said they always leave tracks on her car and stink the place up. I helped her out. Now oh happy day!

Why would you not just put them down...there are so many domestic cats that need homes and the often get put down.its a waste of resources not to just put down all feral cats.
