Burlington NC | Also known as theTown of Company Shops 

Burlington was founded in 1857 and known as the Town of Company Shops. It was so named because the North Carolina Railroad Company established offices and shops in this area in the 1850s in order to build and repair its track. The North Carolina Railroad Company closed its offices and shops in 1886.
Today the entire downtown has been designated as an Historic Area.
