Watching Belli become as valued a companion as Callie, has been a treat. She is learning all the right lessons from her golden mentor and her new dad. It's a real gamble deciding to add a dog to a working environment, as you really can't predict adult behaviour while looking at a stray puppy like you found her. But Belli is as intelligent, affectionate and obedient as any dog owner could hope for... And like Callie, is fast as the wind! 😮

Hello Tyler, When I started watching your video, I found myself listening to your voice, but then I found myself listening to the sounds of farming. I love the sounds of farming, life and the different seasons have different sounds. Some people may think that stupid, but for me, I find it, enjoyable and comprehending at the same time. So after I watched it all the way through I went back and close my eyes and listened completely to nothing but the sounds of your farming. now that’s not 100% accurate because Ari and you were talking but that was OK because it gave me a real sense of where you were at on the farm. Why would I do this you ask? Two years ago my 35-year-old daughter had a quadruple bypass. She was a nurse, very active in life with her two year old daughters beautiful girls, and life couldn’t been better for her but after the heart attack and bypass surgery, they put her in a coma for two months, for my daughter changed, tremendously to make a long story short, within a short amount of time afterwards when she went home, she found herself back at a major hospital here in IOWA. It was diagnosed with lupus, then, a few weeks later, she was totally blind, and as if that wasn’t enough, she also had fibromyalgia and severe migraines, and about a month later she was diagnosed with a very rare disease called NMO. listen 50,000 people in the world know anything about it or have it and it’s a nerve disease attack etc. Life is not the same as it was but I have given a lot of thought to what it’s like to be blind more than I ever did in my entire life for my daughter and I imagine. Her attitude is positive.. Anyway, it was wonderful hearing. All the sounds of former Tire Ranch!! Also, I like your plan for making changes on feeding a cattle and saving time. I think that’s one of the things I love about your channel is that you are always thinking of way to improve upon farming and your life without spending brand new books and then I mean you could go buy a brand new ring for the hay but instead you’re thinking of ways to a new ring without having to buy a brand new one. Love you.❣️❣️ so smart! My dad would approve of your farming techniques if you were here on this Thursday. I think my grandpa would just go buy the ring because he had the money and secondly time was money for him and he had a very big farm and you could. One day he showed up at our house with a new harvest, gold, new refrigerator that defrosted the freezer by itself. Children were elated and jumping up and down and so excited and it had cool ice cube trays and neat glass, shelving, etc. But take one look at my mother’s face and she was NOT happy She wasn’t consulted, nor did she like the color. She wanted her new refrigerator to go with the theme of what she was going to paint her new kitchen whenever that happened, but Grandpa didn’t know that. To us children, he was Santa Claus 12 months in the year. We loved him!! Pretty much every time he came to our house. He had some new surprise and to be a small as candy and gum, or it could be a live. Geese or chickens, or even a pony. We just knew it was gonna be exciting and fun, but my mother kept her mouth shut and never said anything to grandpa and was every bit gracious in her words to him, but later, I found her in her bedroom quietly, crying. It was a rare moment to see my mother cry, and when I asked her why she was crying and what was wrong. She told me that she really did not want a gold refrigerator. She and daddy had been looking at refrigerators, but they were waiting until they could save up enough money for what they wanted. She said it was silly to cry over such a stupid thing the color and she knew that grandpa went well because he knew how badly they needed a new refrigerator and freezer so us kids work fighting to defrost for hours. I learned an important lesson that day about saving for just the right amount of money so you could have what you needed and not just going out and buying it because you had the money! Come to me more than once lifetime. Anyway, I think people could learn from each Tyler so many values, if they are just willing, learn, and practice❤️❤️❤️😊❤️

Bellie is so beautiful! She's very well trained for her age! You have done a great job with her training, as well as Calli helps with her training too. When they were roughhousing, it reminded me of the two Dobermans I used to have. They would start playing and their teeth were gnashing which sounded like they were breaking each other's teeth out! My male Doberman was a little bigger than the female, but he was such a big ole baby, he would always let Jada (the female) take him down and they always had the best time playing rough house! I sure miss those two. I'm too old to get another Doberman and train it, but if I were 10 yrs younger I would definitely get another Doberman pup to raise! So I am enjoying watching Bellie grow up and become a valuable family and farm dog!❤

Use your bale feeder trailer you have now for the steer's. You can put 2 or 3 bales in it to feed steers. Build a second trailer then just swap the trailers out every week. The place where you are putting the bale trailer now move the good ring to that location. You have only been taking 1 bale in trailer to that location. Use your feeder trailer more wisely. Just my 2 cents

FTR Thank you for your efforts to share your Ranch life with us. You're my first video of the day. I really like your creative videography, the different angles keep it interesting. And the beginning of the view of the muddy road was great. (How the heck did the camera not get splashed with mud?) 😊The shot of Cali and the two cats made me laugh! Looks like Cali is beginning to show her age? How about an auto open gate? Probably cost a billion dollars, right? More water coming your way as the river level really increased yesterday. That was a really cute photo capture of the kittens looking out from between the bales !! Tyler I really appreciate the extra time you take to change the cameras to give us the great “views”. Having to put the gate up at the cattle guard must be a real bummer…certainly takes away the meaning. Can’t wait o see what your creative brain comes up with as the solution. 18:37 you don't have bend a radius. You can weld flat stock between the two uprights. Those 6 or 8 straight sections welded together at angles will make a curve. Think octagon or pentagon yours would be a polygon! Or you can make two square sections for the cows & calves and pull their store bought sections for a round feeder for next year's steer's. 💖🌞🌵😷

Along the same thought would be to use the corner of the fence. Place the bale in the corner and have the ring feeder block it In. Obviously you would have to add some good posts so they don’t push it around.

Have you seen the Arrowquip Hay bale feeders that operate like a chute? Might be a little more costly to buy/make but I wonder if having 2 bales at different heights would prevent the Steers from grazing both down together and too quickly. In theory they would be encouraged to go for the one on the ground first because it’s more in their line of sight and then graze the second one after that. Being off the ground would prevent the amount of hay lost to the damp/muddy ground while the first bale is being eaten although it wouldn’t protect it from the weather unless you put a cover or tarp over it.

Hi Tyler- always enjoy your vids. I am a farmer in central NYS, have been around cows- mostly dairy- for seventy years. The real problem with that steer pasture is that it is way way too far away from home. Critters really should be checked on and counted every day- things happen. Water systems malfunction, somebody gets a foot caught, ect ect- I do not think you would be comfortable- and should not be- only seeing them once a week. It may not be as efficient but when we are dealing with live animals it is a whole different deal. I am sure you could build a bale feeder for them that would hold two bales but only going there once a week is not a good option. Also, when you stop to open the gate, you could take the wrap off the bale then. I understand why you leave it on for the trip driving over there, you would have bits of hay blowing off as you went. I am well acquainted with feeding anxious animals outside and taking the wrap off before you drive into the pasture would help you a little. They are big animals and can hurt us without meaning to, and you are there by yourself. Those are great dogs but they probably do not know how to use a phone. That pup is turning into a beautiful dog. Anyway, that is my two cents worth! We have had a cold snap here, finally has eased up a bit. I have heifers in a stall barn and had to water by hand for a few days - I should be able to turn the water bowl lines back on now and hope my efforts to blow some water out of the lines prevented any breakage.

@marywilkins9813 7 месяцев назад
I understood Tyler to say he would be able to drive a more efficient vehicle for the second visit every week. I could be wrong, but I know that he really cares for all his animals. I wish he could find a closer pasture to use, but we don't know all the variables. I do believe that there may be a family member who lives close to that pasture, and they might keep an eye out as well.

Hello, I am Mike from Michigan and I am not a rancher and I do not own any animals that need hay daily. You are looking for a way to reduce your commute time to the other farm, I might suggest, use that property as a hay source and keep your animals on your property with daily hay supplements from the other farm. It appears there is plenty of acreage to grow the hay needed and then once you cut and bale, and transport, all you have to do is put a few bales in your pastures to supplement the cows and you have reduced your travel time to zero, because there will be no need to go to the other property except to harvest hay.

How about making a shoot. Gravity feed, so the bale at the bottom, is finished then the next bale will roll down you can cover it so they can’t eat all the bales, and the rain and weather don’t get to it. Need some cheap ( yea right) tin. Or any kind of material.Kinda like a Pez dispenser upside down.

FWIW My thoughts on feeding all the week's hay on one day. You're really changing their gut biome back and forth by mostly hay for 2-3 days, then grass for the remainder. Sort of like people who graze cornstalks (although not nearly as extreme as cornstalks) they get really acidic from eating all the corn, then their guts are messed up, they actually lose weight while trying to get their stomachs straightened out. Then they graze the corn plant itself, and gain again. In your situation, I don't think the "swing" back and forth would be as severe, but it would most likely still impact their weight gain. UNLESS you see that they are stretching their hay out and consuming it more moderately along with the grass. In that case, you're probably ok. Just my 2 cents gleaned from following a lot of the grass gurus.

Tyler good looking cattle. I had the same problem with one of my cattle guards. A friend of mine told me to put a hot fence wire on the cattle side a few inches off the ground in right front of the first bar low enough to drive over. He said a cow will always put her head down to look before she crosses. I tried it and no more problems. I use a gate handle and don't tie it wrap it too tight because I've not hooked up my safety chains and hooked it pulled it loose. Be safe out there we need you.

Great video as always. I have a hexagonal ring feeder for my small herd, just bolted together, that should be relatively easy to make. Do you ever miss having square bales?

FTR, Do you watch 'Ranching Sodak' ? You might get some ideas from some of the stuff that they do. Good idea of things to build yourself. Great video today.

I was wondering why you didn't take more bales over, but I thought you needed to check on them twice a week anyway... especially since the break out and you need to check the fence and the water. The other reason I thought you took only one bale at a time was because of the rain... If you took 15 bales over, how do you keep them dry? 💖🌞🌵😷

You could just switch the mobile feeder to the steer pasture. You could easily put 2 bales on that. You only give the winter pasture 1 bale, so use the ring there. Then you would only need to go to the steer pasture 1x/wk

Camera work is fantastic as usual. Much time to set it up.

Can you put two of those little bales in a feeder? Seems like they might fit.
