Even though there is a split in the screen between the "depression" and the "burnout" cartoon figures, the fact that they acknowledge each other through the split and seem to care about what the other is going through somehow made me feel so much better. It's like even though we all deal with issues and it looks like we're alone, someone somewhere sees us and cares.

Same, I have so much school work and it's because of my language arts teacher. If she didn't assign huge assignments, maybe I wouldn't be so depressed or burned out whichever one I am or even both Idk. She is also really boring so it's hard to follow along. My language arts teacher last year had fun activities and did mindfulness with the whole class. She would also explain things very well and come around to each individual table to ask if anyone had any questions. It was so easy to go up to her to ask questions. This year in language arts it's way harder.
@Jupiter_028

@@dimplesfriend6937 Oof. Yea covid is making it worse. It's hard for me to do virtual learning because of not being in a classroom environment since I'm virtual. It's also hard for me because I have ADHD. I feel the same about dry eyes right now. My parents had a huge fight because my dad never really interacts with us and just sits at his desk all day while my mom is working hard and trying to get the house clean but my dad isn't doing anything. My mom then started yelling at me because I had a few missing language arts assignments and she knows it's hard for me especially because I also have autism and the type I have is Asperger's so I'm very smart but don't do well in social situations and my mom told me that it also makes it hard for me when having huge assignments or a lot of instructions at once. The social anxiety part of Asperger's is really annoying because I don't like asking my teachers questions or emailing them unless it's a teacher I'm close to which is usually only my science teachers and sometimes math teachers, and only once it's been a language arts teacher because she was so nice and looked out for students mental health by doing mindfulness every week and trying to not make us stressed by explaining things really well and having multiple days to complete things and coming around to each table to ask if anyone had any questions. There would also be fun activities. At the end of last year when we had to switch to virtual she encouraged us to do things like origami, puzzles, and more. They were actually assignments we had to complete so it wasn't optional. It made that class more fun. That was my language arts teacher last year. My language arts teacher this year is boring and either has not enough instructions or too many things to do on assignments.

Thank you for teaching me that "depersonalization" was a characteristic of burnout. I had no way of describing or explaining the reason why I've felt so numb these past few weeks. Even when I tried to do things that make me happy, it felt like I was watching it in the 3rd person, like I was outside of my body and not really experiencing it for myself.

for me, burnout led to depression (diagnosed by psychologists). i personally don’t agree in saying burnout is easier to treat as 3.5 years after my burnout i’m still definitely struggling… the thing with burnout is that many who get burnt out never get back the capabilities they had before. having both of these at the same time also presents a challenge since i need to activate myself to not sink deeper into depression, but to not worsen my burnout i can’t get too active as i need lots of rest. it’s as if working against one of the issues enables the other one…

Yes, I agree. I left my job 2.5 years ago, because of burnout that started affect my personal life. Only after a year my partner started see a small changes, that reminded him of person I was before burnout. Even now, when there is similar tasks from my old job or some intense days, I feel whiplash from burnout.

This!! For me it has been 2 years now (with all the professional help available) and I'm still nowhere near functioning on an even ok lvl. And lightyears away from where I was before. My sense of self-esteem was also very connected to achieving things, so can't exactly say that that has remained intact when trying to navigate this either. Before I was able to (or so i thought) easily juggle many things at once, full schedule all days of the week and I was constantly pushing myself to reach my goals. Now I can hardly cook a meal. Also not being able to do most things in general or even do things I enjoy specifically without always having to suffer consequences afterwards (or having to quit in the middle or smth)... if that doesn't lead to depression at some point idk. Everything just leads down into the same black hole. Again and again. Yes, I'm very bitter and I absolutely hate it here. And me for doing this to myself.

I KNEW IT. sorry, i mean : i knew it, i was sure it had to lead to depression, i was personally depressed first but i had gotten so much better, i'm pretty sure it's a burnout that made me relapse. And holy shit, it was some hardcore relapse. I think it should be treated just as seriously, depression being so dangerous, if it can be the first step into it, then it can be just as dangerous. To me it fits in their 4d classification, idk and anyway it sounds really dumb to not focus on preventing depression before it happens x-x

Looks like I have achieved the pinnacle of burnout - habitual burnout. I get exhausted quite easily and check off all symptoms for onset of stress, chronic stress, burnout, and finally habitual burnout where all the symptoms have become a regular part of my life. It started in university and though I've graduated almost 2 years ago, I haven't recovered from it and I'm so easily tired of everything. Sometimes I get these bursts of energy and I am present and enjoying life, but other times I wish I didn't exist, or like I could run away to the middle of nowhere and live on a farm alone...

As someone who had/has to deal with both: Over time you learn to distinguish them. You just know when you are not depressed, but burned out. But you also learn to hear once the alarm bells start ringing when depression hits. At least to me it's so different. But the biggest differences are the selfesteem and the sleep parts. During depression I always have trouble sleeping. During times that are too stressful for my own good I only have this trouble on or before busy days. Once I have a day off I will sleep for 12+ hours. :))

They don't lie when they say Depression is a killer. Having been suffering from Depression for almost 5 years there are certainly times where you feel things are getting back on track and you feel great! For it one day to all come tumbling down in front of you. That's whats happening to me right now and it sucks. Although small things such as writing this and expressing your feelings helps me personally learn and grow to hopefully one day get out of this slump. Your life can seem terrible but try to keep a positive perspective on life. Things will get better 🙏

First thank you for having this channel to help educate people!! I deal with depression and anxiety, among other things, but after watching a couple of your videos about emotional burnout some things I am currently dealing with make more sense now. I do already have a plan to take a stay home vaccation after I get my room completely finished, and I have already set some good boundaries, but a vaccation is needed, just wish I could do so at the beach. Still, I do think a good week of nothing except doing things just for myself is exactly what is needed and will help to reset and recharge. Again thank you for having this channel to help educate people! Dealing with mental illness isn't easy and when family and friends don't fully understand it only adds to the problem. It's not always easy to find info that is easy to understand for the average person who doesn't understand all the technical terms either, but your videos explain things in a simple and easy to understand manner plus you have some visual content that is very helpful as well! I hope many people will watch these videos and that the stigma of mental illness will soon disappear as well as the fear and people being bullied and/or made fun of and discriminated simply because they deal with mental illness. Thank you!

I have been depressed for a very long time. In high school it got even worse than depression, but soon lowered once I moved schools. I’ve been taking the same pills for 11 years (since 5th grade), got off of one of them because it made me sooo drowsy and tired, but now I overthink everything and I cry a lot more than I used to. Good news is it doesn’t last very long. The other is supposed to help with my depression and focusing better, and I am scared to get off of it because I am in college and I need to graduate without any distractions. For the most part, I feel a little bit stressed once in awhile cause of college work, depending on how hard the work is. This video reminded me it’s ok to prioritize your hobbies, I will keep that in mind 🤍

As you stress in your vids, it isn't professional help but you've added a perspective I've not gotten from counselling. Burnout is a very real thing and to be frank, I'm about to go on leave following an elongated period without a break (trying for a promotion, getting it, then trying to prove and progress again) It is nice to just hear it acknowledged that it even exists? Particularly throughout this year and a half where some of those activities (heck even a walk in a park near us) became stressful. Keep going, you all kick butt! Great content you peeps kick butt!

I feel hopeless. Ive been diagnosed with depression in march 2021 and all my friends turned their backs on me. My parents are overwhelmed by my situation and always make me feel like i am the problem. So now im all alone, with these negative thoughts and as i'm writing this comment im just laying in my bed doing nothing, as usual. I cant find the motivation and energy to do something else since every little things i got to do needs a huge amout of energy. I cant take it anymore and i want to end it all Edit : school and work are a nightmare too. My grades are awful and i think about dropping out of college and my job is 1h away from where i live and i'm usually late and sometimes i even dont go at all because i feel drained.
@abrambur2
@abrambur2 2 года назад
I found playing beat saber, touch the beat and thrill of the fight in vr helps my mood and lifts me up from the bed. Going vegan, stopping caffeine, sugar and tabaco intake also helped a lot although it wasn't easy at first because of the addiction factor. I eat oatmeal when I get up, some non acidic fruits after some hours with some almonds, then a meal I do that has a a variety of beans, vegetables and herbs, that is done in a way that doesn't upset my stomach and is proteic also the base meal every day that does not change, the last meal I keep it light, full grain pasta or rice with avocado and black olives or something like that. Don't eat fruits with vegetables at the same time, try to use olive oil and avoid fried foods. Eating like this helps both the body and the mind. As I go to sleep sometimes I listen to a guided meditation called "the secret universal mind" on yt. Depression has a cause so figure it out and try to change it or forget it. Some pills also give depression so look into that if you are on medication. Sometimes life isn't fair and people aren't fair but staying true to yourself goes a long way for you and others. Doing these things will help you live better and longer and you can search for like-minded people if you want to, that you like and don't put you down. Stay well and take care.

When you're already clinically depressed, but then something happens and causes you to burnout, so then you have to deal with both. Is it possible for people to develop some form of depression (not in a linear manner, of course, but rather suddenly and intensely because the last straw was had) if they get burnt out too many times without sufficient support and encouragement from their environment?
@Azurryu
@Azurryu 3 года назад
I would explain it like that my clinical depression causes me to have much less energy, which leads to burning out easily. Currently I have less signs of a full depression, no sadness or negative thoughts, but I'm still slowed down and out of energy like trough a burn out.
@yourdogisdeath

You may get a depressive episode, like just after a traumatic event, but it depends on oneself's resilience to overcome over time. Depression can be developed or it can be endogenous (your brain lacks on chemicals to function 'normal'). A depressive episode, untreated or misunderstood can become chronic after a few years because your brain is suffering so much so often that your self recovery habilites cannot deal with all. It is always recommended to look for both psychiatric and psychological advise to deal with all the factors involved. I hope I have been able to explain myself a bit, English is not my mother language so I may not be using the best words for it.

Yeah. Happens a lot with untreated ADHD, as people with ADHD inherently struggle with both productivity and pacing/rest. Because the stressor affects every single aspect of their life and it can't be removed until they start treating that ADHD, they're basically permanently in burnout. Which is already indistinguishable from depression functionally, but can also cause proper depression that needs to be treated separately after the ADHD is made manageable.

I do have depression, but I also survived COVID-19, which caused some trauma, lost my grandmother a week after I recovered, and my mother had a heart attack on top of everything else the pandemic has done to people’s mental states. I feel you ❤️that’s how it also can be for people who have busier or more complicated lives, to understand if it’s the circumstances or the depression. It can be both, playing off of each other, but it is never your fault. I’m sorry you have been through so much in a short time over this pandemic. It can be super confusing, but always ask those questions and maybe, find someone who understands and can listen to your feelings. Doesn’t have to be a therapist, but being able to vocally process those feelings might bring some clarity or comfort, at the least.
