Patrick is finally finding some aggression!

So that's 8 days and 20,000 casualties. Fog of war option would be really cool here, would potentially give the Union the chance to reproduce at least the initial part of the historical campaign (i.e. feint towards Culpeper, but main force headed towards Fredericksburg, surprising Lee).

In the first attack against Hooker's stack, the final flank was +3 due to the creek without a road in a rain turn to the South of the stack. Result would have been a r rather than a R I believe.

Yup, I noticed that just today during a rewatch. Luckily, the only difference was Retreat instead of Rout, but the manpower loss would be the same. I think Whipple parked in turn 8 anyway. Thanks, sharp eyes!

In that last attack against McLaws - he was at D2 so his defense roll should be at -1.

Which worked out well, since Roger overestimated the Tactical difference at +1 for Sickles, so the net effect should still be the same. Thanks!

Hi fellows, you might have wondered, where my otherwise regular comments stayed in the last episodes. Well, I was on holiday and really employed there. But now I am catching up and watched episodes 1 and 2 as well, but will not go back to comment there in detail. What a bloodbath I see in sum! Don’t have to say more about the pocketing battles that Roger achieved to such great and cumulating effect. In turn 6 but continuing even in 7 and 8 rain and fog. Well done, Roger. Just two general comments on major trends in your gameplay, style issues that I expect to show effect in the remaining campaign time: 1. The force marching approach of Jackson was far too aggressive for my taste. How many manlevels did you lose on force and on extends afterwards? 6+4 or something like that? The big divisions are melting away. Duing so in short scenarios is fine. But you will later desperately need and miss those boys in that long campaign. And it adds up to the huge combat toll. It is not just the VP difference where only the later matter. It is the remaining size of the army which I suspect to already have reached a slippery slope. 2. No one seems to be interested in the eastern objectives. Even the one Union division (Meade) exploring there turned back. As was discussed in the session review: Collecting there could trigger a fast win once the pontoons arrive. 2.a. Why are the Union artillery reserves at last not coming up to the front? They are so effective in the flat fields around Culpepper, but rather sill water their train horses at the Rappahannock? Will see to commenting more regularly again. Regards Holger

Everyone is so worried about Jackson's corps. He's a big boy, he'll manage. The humorous irony of your statement is that if I HADN'T force marched Jackson's corps, you would have said "If only you had crossed the Rapidan before the rain came by force marching." :-)

@@PatricksTacticsTutorials Now he is a not-so-big-boy anymore. 😬 But I agree, the commenting is with hindsight. Anyway, I am tempted to say: Well, rather alive south of the Rapidan than strangled north of. There will remain need to fight to the south of it (or in the east!) later for sure.

Ill befitting a Gentleman, etc., but have you considered not wishing Roger good luck anymore? It seems as though he's making more of it than propriety and good manners should allow. Time for the gloves to come off!

This post made my day. "How dubiously unsporting of you, sir."

You can’t really complain about Roger’s initiatives when you passed just before.

Harsh, but fair. 🙂
