Session 2: Turns 6 - 8 (November 20 - 22, 1862)
Having completed all of the Basic Game scenarios for Burnside Takes Command, and with the continued encouragement of our viewers, we now embark on another Advanced Game! This is our fourth attempt at capturing a campaign format playing against each other, so we hope you enjoy the narrative.
For this first play of the campaign game, Patrick will play the Union (USA), and Roger will play the Confederates. (CSA).
Scenario #4: Burnside Takes Command (Advanced Campaign)
This scenario examines the strategic opportunity Burnside had when he assumed command of the Army of the Potomac.
GAME LENGTH: Up to 31 turns, November 15 to December 15, 1862.

It's just as well VI Corps missed a march in the previous video. They would probably have marched in the wrong direction.

Starting around the year 1813, the Coalition adopted a policy of retreating wherever Napoleon was and advancing where he was not. Patrick seems to have adopted this policy with respect to Jackson and Longstreet.

You could have called the one opening correction: “Hood strikes south”. 🔃🤠 (…and later eastwards… and not for wrong reasons. The triggering random event here should have been called: “The Yanks are in Fredericksburg!”) The Union first corps obviously only marched when “forced” to. And then it is literarily melting away on the drill. But the Union Army seems very well placed now. We might see a very early automatic end of this campaign! Patrick, you murmured that you could not get a (spontaneous) flank when closing in for the storming of Fredericksburg. But wouldn’t you have got a +1 flank if French had not approached from the NW but rather via the famous sunken road (then 5 hexes covered with one coming off)? Remember, the major river with a destroyed bridge is a fully blocked hexside. That one more pip would have made the already good and successful attack on Fredericks even better and saved you the winners loss. But that is academic in any case as I expect the automatic early end to be collected very soon now. With the postponed pontoons being the limiting factor for the necessary supply line to the 40-VP-spots: Can you not also repair the destroyed conventional bridge at Fredericksburg as an alternative path? Or is bridge repair via the standard rules precluded in BTC? It is not 100%ly clear. Only Scott's Dam is explicitly excluded. Regards Holger

The Chatham bridge at Fredericksburg is specifically mentioned as unrepairable in the BTC rules. Yep this looks like a quick and decisive victory for the Union unless I can somehow pull a off a miracle.

In the first combat USA had 3+3=6, Confed 5, that is USA by 1, but it says Confed won the combat, is this correct?

The very first Union repulse at the ford (Session #1), was a final of +1 Union, which is correct. Since the CSA was not ejected from the spot, that is not treated as a victory. So the Defender "won" by holding the hex. Typically, >= +2 is considered a victory by the Attacker.
