In this video, I head out to Waterton National Park in southern Alberta. The wildflowers are great in the spring but I end up pointing my camera towards dead tree from a devastating fire that took place in 2017

I missed running into you that weekend. I was on a back trail just north of the park and woke up to 20 cm of snow @5000’ elevation and stopped in to view the buffalo before heading off to Writing on Stone. 2017 fire season was bad. Had friends working on the Watertown fire while I was north of High level working on a fire when I got news of the passing of my wife. Life has set me on a new path, watching your videos and trying to improve my photography skill. So, your images here are a great great reminder that life goes on. New growth emerges in due time. Maybe run into you on the island after I return from Botswana. Keep up the content, we do enjoy it.

Again just simply amazing! I have lived on the B.C. mainland all my life and during my vacations I simply drove from point A to B drudgingly at times. You have definitely now made me notice the beauty in everything! I'm not sure if you will understand this comparison but macro photography of a single flower, of thousands, will often exhibit beauty upon later close examination; and even unintentional insects that were not noticed at the time. You are a macro photographer of Earth exhibiting details often overlooked. Your photography of landscape reveals much more after later examination, very well done, wow!

HI Adam, Great video. First processed image was very moving and impactful for me. I visited the area in 2014 on a motorcycle trip and enjoyed the “pre-fire” natural environment. The transformation is very emotive. Your images in this video are “very much my cup of tea”. I appreciate the patterns, colours and cropped formats you’ve shared. I particularly like the presentation of the raw file first and enjoy guessing how you’ll crop them compared to how I would do it. Love looking around the edges to see your final decisions. The field of flowers I’d find very hard to capture in that light. I’d love to see this with better light in the background so that the mountains could be included in the frame. Wow so many wonderful photos of all kinds of different subjects. I loved the pattern shots ... especially that really wide one. The flowers were glorious and those bleached white trees were amazing.

As always, I love you photos Adam!! I just moved back to my home state of Florida after 20 years living in Whitefish/Kalispell(next to Glacier National Park) I loved June for wild flowers in GNP. Flowers like pasqueflowers , shooting stars, and the fields of glacier lilies were some of my favorites. Timing is the key since these flowers bloom as the snow melts back.

Thanks for this video. Recently the area around Las Vegas, NM had a horrible fire. This is helpful in composing image of the burn with sensitivity.

After the video was not published last week, we were all a little worried ... it was rumored that you had moved to Nova Scotia to restore an old friars convent ... thank goodness it didn't go that way !!! I was also fascinated with some dead trees (so sad) near the Alabama Hills (California) down in a gulch. They were surrounded by this beautiful low red foliage. But they were so "unorganized" it was hard to find a good compostion. None of my shots turned out as beautiful as yours. Well done! This has inspired me to go back sometime and try again. The fire in the park was devastating to everyone and it was difficult to get enthusiastic about taking a photo of burnt trees but now that i see a new perspective on them, I’m excited to give it a try. Thank you for a fresh look at our little corner of Alberta.

I most likely would have driven on by the burned out forest. Thanks for showing the beauty in such a stark landscape. I will certainly stop and explore the possibilities in the future. All the images were in color. Some, to me, seemed that they would also be impactful as B&W images as well. Thanks for all of your hard work in creating this video.

Growing up when we did it was easier to think that things have a permanence. With all the fires (I am in Northern CA) and the realization that each time to a high mountain area might be the last time I see it that way in my lifetime, I find it brings new meaning to the photographs we take now. Great photos. (Neat that you saw a bear!)

Stay to the end, there's a lovely little wildlife vignette! I marvelled at the bony feel of some of those twisted dead trunks. I might wander around there with some black and white film. Light Chasers was awesome by the way. I don't know if you remember, but when we talked about Edziza, I confused it with Itcha Ilgachuz. You're 100% correct, it's not in the Chilcotin, sorry for the confusion. Take care, and love the chill vibe of these videos lately.

I got a chance to visit a year old burn scar last summer, seeing the early stages of recovery contrasting against the black mud and dead aspens was quite pretty and fun to shoot. But I couldn't help but think we'll all grow weary of these scenes in the next 10-20 years, the fires only seem to be getting more common. For now though it's definitely a fun and new subject.

Hi Adam I must say that this week's video is an absolutely remarkable and unified body of work. I sat there amazed at what I saw. Truly one of your better videos. It's interesting that the trees at 4:05 almost look posterized. Having had to evacuate oncoming fires in the past, I'm sure that is no the case. While we experience the effects of climate change, there is still a strange beauty in a fire's aftermath - a rejuvenation of life. Thank you again. Jeff in Poulsbo.

It's interesting how the image at 9:00 looks like wood that has been stained or weathered gray. That last set of trees were very haunting and ghostly. My fav image was the one at 12:55 - not only is it an attractive image, but I liked the contrast between death and life making a come back.

All the images are awesome! I never realized how nice burnt trees look when surrounded by flowers. Maybe you could call Gavin and Amanda and get them to move back. They’re being eaten alive by flies where they are. They’re fighting them like they’re fighting fire. It makes me feel bad just to watch them being so miserable. Keep up the good work. Your videos are great.

I believe the old adage is, "When you have lemons, you make lemonade." The patterns of the dead trees were fascinating. Not so much the smaller snow spots. As you stated, with a mountain covered with snow the wider angle could have then looked great. The scenes depicting the green growth or new life among the dead trees also demonstrated the circle of life. Nature is beautiful and powerful and we must take each in stride and appreciate the unique aspects of all.

I really liked those first tele shots of the trees. It seems the miserable weather may have worked some magic there. I would have instinctively gone for a wide angle and ended up with 'meh'.
