Winter Photography / The Canadian Rockies
The second video from my landscape photography trip to the Canadian Rockies. In this vlog we head over to Abraham Lake not far from Banff National Park in search of the grand landscape. Majestic mountains, snow-covered trees, frozen waterfalls, what could be better? When Gavin Hardcastle invited me to journey out to the Rockies and hang out with other like-minded photographers I jumped at the opportunity. So glad that I did it was a really great trip. Made a few images and made a few new friends, what could be better?

Good job mate. I actually really liked that comp you got of the ice island in the river. If you'd been in that spot for that last blush of light after the sunset it would have looked amazing. Hate you for that tree shot we all missed but agree, it might be on your best of 2019. We need to go out soon for more capers.

Was watching Thomas Heaton's RU-vid video photographing at Bow lake.... ice started making noise and he decided it was time to go somewhere else. That's when he saw you wave him over to the creek with those wonderful ice formations. Jumped over to your RU-vid page to see what images you did. So nice to see cooperation between each others sites.

Loved the tree shot Adam (that's an absolute winner in my book); it shows very much how an experienced mind can think outside of the box and not get overloaded by the bigger scene. I also loved your take on the last image too. I felt that the heavier group of tree to the left helped to bring the frame to an end on that side, so it was OK for me. I also liked the difference in contrast between the trees and the distant mountain, which gave the image lots and lots of depth.

Thanks Mr. Grumpy. I really enjoy your in-depth discussion on composition and post processing. Especially when you compare your raw pic to the final pic. Nothing wrong with putting photography first. I have the same problem with many of my vlogs. I just miss those b-roll shots too often. But as long as you put in some drone shots from time to time, this is better than all the b-roll I see in many other videos ;-)

That image of the aspen must be the one that Thomas commented on in one of the other's videos. I think he remarked about being a bit envious when he saw it on the back of your camera. It's in the fine art category and shows that when the most obvious subject (mountains) frustrates one to find a composition, just keep looking for the not so obvious. Great images Adam and all four of you have put out some entertaining content from this adventure.

Love the tree image Adam and a great vlog. I can't speak for every viewer here, but for me its all about the photography and how we can identify with the problems of poor light, trying to find a composition and the reward of getting it right in camera. Pause the video at 9.14, the tree WOW !!.. right carry on. I think by now having seen the other videos it appears that the light, colour and compositions at the locations you all visited did not come together as you all would ave liked, that's photography though for you - and good old mother nature. The trip though looked a blast and it was fun n informative to get different slants from all 4 of you. Adam, the images you showed us today were great BUT that tree image, yes, I guess the other members of your trip will be drooling over it like many of your viewers - worth the trip for that one alone, stunning. If you want flat grey light WIHOUT epic views, Wales is all that today. Have a good week.

My God! That tree photo is absolutely beautiful! Definitely a picture I could stare at for a long time and just get lost in. Those are the kinds of pictures we're all striving for. I liked the other pictures as well. Like you said, with a little bit more directional light, they could have been even better. Thanks.
