On "My Car Story" we're in Rosemont IL on 3-7-19 at the World of Wheels Car Show.
We're looking at a 1979 Pontiac Trans Am in Black Paint. The car is equipped with a V8 engine.
The car's Care Taker is Gene Kennedy for the former Owner Burt Reynolds. He’s had the car since 2010. Gene takes the car and memorabilia on tours to share the memory of his friend Burt Reynolds.
He also has a business called Bandit Movie Cars which fabricates and restores Trans Am’s to looks like the “ Bandit Car “. His website is www.BanditMovieCars.com

I love this car better than the movie car because I just love this body style! I have always loved this body style the best! What a great car and story! I really like the guy that was there to tell.us about Burt and his card and the type person he really was. The car sure sounded healthy too! I really enjoy this special edition of my car story Lou! Great Trans Am Lou and the fact it was Burts personal car makes it cooler. From what I can tell it's a 403 Olds engine, (note the oil filler in the front of the engine). Sounds very healthy!!

The one in our garage looks quite a bit like this....black 79, gold bird, T-tops. But hubby's has red interior and not all the good striping. Just got it out today, 26,200 miles.

Hey Lou. Beautiful looking Firebird. This looks like the very car that was used in Smoky and the Bandit movies. 1979-81 has always been my favourite years for the Firebird. :)

A buddy of mine who I carpooled with back I the late seventies, early eighties had a 1977 Black Bandit edition Trans Am. 1977 was the year of the Trans Ams in the movie. It was a hugely popular car back then. He said when he went to pick his car up from the dealership new, there were more than half a dozen more black Trans Ams parked next to his. At most classic car shows around here, over half the 1977-1979 Trans Ams in attendance are black. The next most popular color is gold, and most of the time these are the only two colors you’ll see.

As I've mentioned before Lou, my 1st car was a silver 1975 T/A so this is really special.. GM should have kept the Pontiac Division over the Buick, thet have the Cadillacs to cover elegant models. But Pontiac offered a more variety of models this being one, and the Bonneville...

Pontiac's President gifted Burt Reynolds a new Trans Am every year for life, which Burt received with gratitude. One year Burt didn't get a car, so he reluctantly called Pontiac to ask about the delay. The _new_ President of Pontiac said the lifetime of the last President's career had expired . No more Trans Ams for Burt!

Nice to see Burt Reynolds’ Trans Am in fabulous order and in such rude health. But I beg to differ. Few can view a silver Aston Martin DB5 and not immediately think of Sean Connery, aka James Bond a moment later.

Interestingly, I ordered my 77 TRANS AM Special Edition Hurst TTops( leaked constantly, even after repairs) in “OCT 76 “and got in March of 1977 ( minus vinyl striping, did have Screaming Chicken on Hood). Also, I got Velour Int,Auto with Cruise ( this before cruise with Manuel Trans), 6.6 L ( not TA 6.6), rear Defrost, AM RADIO, A/c, Tilt, PS/ PB: paying about $7600 , full DELIVERED( if memory correct).. Alao, Interestingly, the Ziebert Rust Proofing slowed Warsaw IN rust DOWN SOMEWHAT: though about destroyed by 1989 , needed major ROTISSERIE redo &; ended up in Warsaw Junkyard for $50.....(;incl 4 TRANSAM Fold Rims, etc)... I believe 77 TRANSAM with Vinyl INT/ TA 6.6 were in Movie generally! Be interesting to see if 79 is as interesting as 77: (Great Driving Car as I added Koni, new ignition, maybe better tires, etc.)....let you know. PS, MY children loved the TRANSAM...........as got to drive early Drivers License, etc.......

Thanks, Lou and all... good videos. I think the 77 is a better package , and better looking . Kind of wish we would have tried more to,save our 77; though many years of Family and constant use wore it down also, besides road salt, broken Springs, leaky HURST TTOP, A FEW ENGINE TROUBLES ( air Hose, Choke Kick,offs, Exhaust Tips get caught easily in Holes, Tires chew off lots of Paint on body under wraps, 6.6 L is underpowered and to much Smog controls, etc.)......Though Tranny, radiator stood up well: some 110,000 miles(?)......

@@opera93 I agree. I think the '77 looks a ton better than '79. I don't like the '79's front grill at all. Pontiac made a similar change with the '67 and '69 front grills.

Rudolph Guarnacci Yes. Also, the TRANS AM Suspension ( WS6, in package, etc was good HANDLING balance if reasonable maintained with Grommets and upkeep), Change from Hurst TTOPS TO GM and other GMOEM MAY HAVE HELPED..

Rudolph Guarnacci Thanks, was And still am, a big Fan of all TramsAm: Interestingly the early SD, HO, AND 69-77 particularly interesting and lots of aftermarket stuff. Kind of wish I had one to work on and drive: retirements and health problems took care of much of that Hobby.....

the only other iconic movie/TV cars I can think of is the James Bond DB5 tv the Green Hornets Chrysler imperial but yeah the bandit Pontiac was kind of a movie star all of its own it was the only member of the cast to be in all the movies.

Would be cool to take a late 70s Firebird and drop in a 1967-70 high compression Pontiac 400 and a 4 speed. The late 70s Trans Ams were absolute slugs in stock form

I am really not a Smokey and the bandit fan, and this car is not my cup of tea. Everything on this car is stick on decals. I think it is very overhyped. If I was into movie cars I would take a McQueen bullitt or a Kowalski Challenger over this car.
