Just bought cartels today, again. So yeah, you're so right it's borderline scary, lol. Cartels are the best bindings for any style.

The malavita disagrees.

Cartel X made my K2 Alchemist 160 come alive - was pretty amazing actually! Zero complaints after 3 hrs fast riding through frozen groom to soft chunder - knees feet all OK.

Spot on. I demo'd both the 2023 Cartel and Cartel X. I am replacing a set of 2015 Cartels. The Cartel X is the new version of the original Cartel. The current Cartel (non-X) has a less premium build quality (highback padding, ratchet feel, overall it just feels and looks cheaper). If you are replacing older Cartels, you want the 'X".

I don't think Burton invented the double-take system to prevent retrofitting. I mean, where do you even get straps from (for a decent price!)? I know there is fixmybinding and maybe a few other places but common I aint paying ~50 bucks for two ankle straps... I rather buy a whole set of used bindings in good shape for ~100, to use for replacement parts - or even ride it on a different board. It's just not worth it to buy binding parts, especially since Burton has a great warranty and you will get parts from them no questions asked if anything is broken. I think Burton simply invented the system to present something new and get people to buy new- or higher-end bindings. Maybe - just maybe! ;) - they even had pure intentions and only wanted to create an easier system. A company just has to constantly innovate and produce new stuff/tech to keep people interested in the brand and motivated to buy their products. I for one appreciate that Burton at least is innovating, which can't be said for quite a lot of snowboarding brands... It's still a shame though, since I love the new injected style anklestraps but like you, I can't trust the new system. I saw them not releasing or - even worse - freezing up and not engaging as well - which is just an absolute No-Go! The old ratchets from Burton were the pinnacle of reliability and smoothness. I have a set of C02s from - I believe 2006 or so - which are still perfectly functioning! They belong to a friend now who uses them as his only bindings. He doesn't get on the slopes all that much but they never failed on him nor on me - for ~15 years!!! They only thing one could criticize about the old ratchet system is that they were quite heavy (compared to Union's magnesium buckles for example) but reliability is simply more important. I mean why do you think Burton team riders requested the Malavita leather? The new single-take system of today doesn't seem to be on par with the older ratchets though. My friend bought a Cartel last year and they don't seem to act as smooth as my older ones - I would still prefer them over the double-take though. The new system also causes the very thing they are advertised to prevent: They strip the ladders. On every double-take bindings I had or saw, there were some stripepd ladders, whereas I never had this issue on one of my traditional Burton bindings - and I tend to crank my straps down as hard as I can. It's just a shame that one can't buy a highend binding from Burton without the double-take system nor can you swap the ratchet on the ankle strap. That's why the new Cartel X is very appealing to me - I wouldn't have to swap the straps and ratchetsystem to use them... maybe I buy one towards the end of the season when the prices come down a bit. Burton really should introduce a tool where one can assemble their own bindings from all the parts they use in their lineup - I would be willing to pay quite a bit extra for that! I of course understand that they can't do that though - this would make it very hard to sell/advertise the "usual" lineup, since there are just subtle changes between the models.

You can create the effect of canting on a Now binding by using the softer bushings on the inside of the binding , and putting the firmer bushings on the outside. Canting a boot is also possible- you can get shims to put underneath the footbed of the boot. Its not really something I mess with though.

Burton Medium bindings will fit your size. I wear 8.5 boots and the medium feels slightly small for my boots. The large bindings will fit but the medium give me more response.

Did you decide on which bindings to get? I can't decide between the Pilots, Cartels, or the Nirtro Teams for my Orca.

Not true. The Cartel X is the same price as the regular cartel was. The new regular cartel is now priced fifty dollars less.
