Burundi's new leader Pierre Buyoya on Friday (26/7) urged foreign
powers to refrain from military intervention in his country.
Buyoya's call for non-interference in Burundi's affairs came one
day after he seized power in an army-backed coup.
Buyoya, a Tutsi military official, was speaking at his first press
conference since he ousted president Sylvestre Ntibantunganya as
leader of Burundi, which has been ravaged by three years of ethnic
fighting.
