Thanks for posting this, where the hell did you find it???? ahh my beloved old Bury, no more alass the place it once was, so much history in what was a small market town. I moved away from there 20 odd years ago now after spending my youth growing up in a nice part of Brandlesholme and later living in Walmersley. Still miss it and would like to live there again maybe, although I think Id rather remember it how it was, in the 70´s when I was just a Young boy. Went back 4 years ago just for a day and didnt like at all what it had become, poor old Bury, now living in Buenos Aires for 2 years after living in Spain for 18 years, Hasta La Vista once more my Bury.

Even back then, there were rude ruffians. It's just that you didn't see them on the news. People have always been disrespectful and committed crimes. That's life. As for a sense of pride, well, you can probably blame Thatcher in part. She ruined the North, made it a much harder place to live. Who would be proud of a place of desperation and lack of jobs? Globalisation also plays its part. Realising we're not so great after all. Recognising the awful things our country has done. I'm not proud of a Britain who clings to a colonial past full of bloodshed.

@@Marzi29 having family in the police, i can tell you for sure crime is on the increase, absolutely and throughout the western world. And bloodshed, dont just think the brits of the past era, was alone in such horrible events. All European countries were fighting for land, power and rule, and of course like all wars, innocent people and societies suffer. This has been going on for centuries and will continue. Dont forget how much Britian gives to countries, refugee, assistance... there are a lot of other countries who dont even help there own. Crime is on the increase, lack of respect, lack of self worth, lack of guidance, lack of independence and owning and sorting out their own hardtimes. But its So easy to blame politicians, our history and always the cause of someone else.... tired of hearing such sentiment. You shoyld be kissingbthe ground your walk on ... be thankful your living in a western world, instead of extreme hardship in africa, extreme regine in china and many other countries. Have you tried emigrating to Iran?, you may find a very helpful government... not like Thatcher of course, therefore should make you very happy.

My great grandad is the man in the official looking white wig during the Queen's visit to open the town hall. My granny remembered him very fondly, though he died before I was born (sudden heart attack aged 69).

The train was diverted from Bolton Street over a decade before the trams were introduced. Other than that, very interesting.
