Bury St Edmunds is a historic market town in the county of Suffolk. Footage of the 2nd of June 1991 Music is from Highland Musikarchiv: 1st "Tabla-talk" Album:"Music, tricks+gags" 2nd "Sooo muede" Album: "Piano Vol.1
My teenage growing up years from 1985-1990..I lived here and had great memories at the Rollerbury skate rink, Taps nightclub, Stylex Motor Products where I once worked, The One Bull pub, ...my number one spot, St. John's Street where I once lived, my first girlfriend lived on the Nowton Estate. Good times before cell phones and internet.
@wa5iyx The USAF bases nearby were Lakenheath and Mildenhall. I worked at The Angel Hotel around 1958 as an 18 year old and both AF bases for a while. As a result of all that American influence I immigrated to the USA in 1963. I have traveled a lot since then, I am not English but Bury St. Edmunds has to be one of the most beautiful places on Earth. Some of my happiest memories are from there. Even though I was half "Jerry" and half Irish, the people treated me very well.
Ah The Nutshell smallest pub in England. I hoisted a half pint of Guinness there in 2004 during a 10 day visit to East Anglia. Went to Bury twice and it was my favorite town.
It's lovely seeing how different and how alike places are; thank you for this as I can no longer travel due to a bus accident. Still want to know and see places.🥰
In 1952-54 (as a young USAF dependent) lived in nearby (15 mi up the A143) Botesdale. Stayed in the Square House (St. Marys Sq.) several weeks at each end of that time. Had many visits to the Abbey grounds. Looks like one of those cooler June days in the UK!
The great thing about Bury St Edmunds is its situation. It's equidistant between London and Norwich. That's the genius of its location. Even though I do hate it and I don't live there.
+Debra Cant It is from Highland Musikarchiv:1st "Tabla-talk" Album:"Music, tricks+gags"2nd "Sooo muede" Album: "Piano Vol.1"Thanks for watching. Henry from Hamburg (Germany)
Does anyone around the age of about 68 to 73 remember a young fellow from around 1957 to 1962 who worked at the Angel Hotel by the name of Bjorn Kniebe?
Anyone noticed on Angel Hill back then not so many cars ! At least people could actually park in the town!! Lol not so many cars 🚘 around in 1991 unlike the town now! 😡🤣
Lived in Bury St. Edmonds close to 3 years. I stationed nearby someday I would love to go back for a visit. Live above a Post Office which is now closed down. Loved the fish and chips Love the English Countryside The very 1st day Had a pint in New Market dance in a circle which was strange. Went to Thetford was ran out of town by a Taxi Driver lol. Live by the Merry Go Round. Bless the people of England.
Its a shame the cattle market went & got replaced by chain shops + the department store. The town feels more commercialised now. More plugged into the same global capitalism that everywhere else is shaped by. Lots more ugly buildings being built as well. With no attempt at blending them in to the existing architecture. Waves of migration (both foreign and internal to Britain) have also changed the character of the people - not so much of a Suffolk feel anymore. Change isn't always progress.
Thank God it changed! Bury used to be so boring growing up, it finally moved with the times after years of delays to developments like the cinema and Arc. The Cattle Market used to stink; it was horrible having to walk through there; hated it as a child. Some of the livestock were also mistreated, as witnessed on numerous occasions when they were beaten with a stick and sworn at. Plus the huge stinking cattle lorries that used to rumble through the town with the poor animals crammed inside; just horrible to witness. Good riddance! The town centre has been well preserved and it's still beautifully rural, but now far more vibrant.
@@chiplawson5491 I absolutely agree. The Cattle market was utterly depressing, as I remember as a child visiting from nearby Lavenham on Saturdays for the market. It had, still has lovely parts of the town. But that awful Cattle market😖
