Just a note for non-Norwegians: There are so many bad translations in this documentary. Snorre did not say that the police planted bugs, but that he _thought_ they did. Varg didn't say "Everybody believes journalists", but "never trust a journalist." The journalist didn't say "We chose to publish the story because it was all correct", but "because _so much of it_ turned out to be correct", etc.

According to Necrobutcher, Mayhem's bass player: "It wasn't anything to do with the way Kiss and Alice Cooper used makeup. Dead actually wanted to look like a corpse. He didn't do it to look cool. In the early 1990s, other Norwegian black metal bands followed suit and their style and sound was adopted by bands around the world.

In the mid nineties there was a show Headbanger's Ball.. I'm not sure if they played any black metal but I remember a lot of "...and Justice for All" type stuff. Yeah, mtv actually used to play music haha. And not this hip hop crap that's out now days.
Metal is not just some music genre rather it is a movement or sub-culture based on Philosophy and Ideology...I respect Varg and guys like him because they are not just some bunch of posers who will just play in a show for fame or money...anyone can talk and claim anything but the one who just doesn't talk but also is a man of action isn't someone empty...this world and our history wasn't created by passive sheep rather by people like Varg!!!

We are in 2016 and i have hearing BM's stories last 15 years. I live in Brazil, and i think how will be the things after them? Those guys created a different music style, nothing very technical, but with a dark atmosphere and they did a lot of things in that ages. But that facts was made 25-30 years ago. A lot of BM's bands had appeared and but they are not the guys who were Inner Circle's members. They ideas were distorted over the years and they are just ashes in the time now. Unfortunatelly!!!

I love to see how easy you can manipulate the medias.Just some nerds that wanted to sound heavier than anyone else,some churches burn down and one murder drive everyone to terror.I personally hate medias, I like black metal as music but I think that in this era back then angry kids give to others bad example to start hurting people(offcourse it wasn't the big amount of people as the media represented but still).As I said I like black metal but I think is a music you should listen to an older age without searching answers and in an age that you have already made up you mind so you can just enjoy this epic music.

However now dormant due to his environment as a family man, may he yearned truly to erase all his past, but he could not quench his most darksided ego aspects from his soul. Excellent documentary. A good journalitic piece to understand in deph the trouble around Black Metal and demystify the "satanism" around it. Important lessons: 1.- The importance of Media regarding both, investigation an ethics, to inform society correctly, construct an elevated public opinion, demystify reality and understand their own dinamics. Things that Norwegian Media DIDN'T. 2.- The earlier Norwegian Black Metal milieu was nearlier of American Hip Hop scene (regarding PR, fake violence to get it and all that crap) than "satanism" itself. 3.- If efforts to catch the Media attention were put to do better music instead, probably Norwegian Black Metal were more appreciated musically and not by all this fake, poser and childish things.
that means you don't understand black metal, the whole point of black metal in that time and that Norwegian inner circle was this, they wanted to make music so horrible that most people would vomit by listening to it, most of the people involved in that moment were processing abuse in Christiaan households or had some sort of learned trauma by reading about the history of Christianity. For them, you are the childish poser that doesn't understand that Black Metal is about fighting Christianity and kicking it out of Norway. For them, the Inner Circle Black Metal was a filter to identify the soldiers against Christianity. For others like Cradle of Filth, extreme metal was just to process the trauma of Christianity.

Varg is not Satanist after Euronymous died and he left Mayhem, Varg was with the Pagan black metal community, they are both anti Christian, but there is a difference between Satanism and the Astraue religion (Norse Paganism).
Suggesting the Black Metal scene in Norway was influenced by KISS is a little bit far-fetched, isn't it? I'd say Venom, Bathory, perhaps Sarcófago are more likely candidates.

This documentary is so full of misunderstandings and bullshit. Hellhammer was not in Mayhem when they released Deathcrush. Also, why the Hell would the newspaper make their own story of the cave when it was clear that it was nothing else but a cave?

Like it ir not had Varg not done what he did, Norwegian Black Metal wouldnt have been been as popular as it is now. On the other hand it still might have been underground where it should have stayed. The standards that cane with this music has also changed Metal and perhaps saved it. Love em or hate em, You have him and the Norwegian media to thank.
ha ha, yeah I noticed that and I can say, as a member of a band who has strong ties to the Oslo music scene, that many of the people from different music-genres mix freely with each other and know each other over there, so it's not surprising at all that someone making acid/techno would know about the people in the black metal scene. :-)

Whoever made this documentary did not even get what that all was about, at all. "Aarseth and Vikernes used the church fires in their marketing" - as if they would have been fucking Pop or Rock stars who wanted to sell records. They wanted to give their music to just a hand full of people who understood. Of course, they wanted to scare people. But this guy who says "Black Metal should be a show" is one of the first who misunterstood what Black Metal, at least how Mayhem performed it, was all about. Dead, Varg and Euronymous crossed and violated borders, that's a thing not even Hellhammer or Necrobutcher did fully understand. Nowadays, music is just a fucking merchandise, of course music industry will never understand it. 99% of people will never understand how it is to be so dedicated to your arts or ideology that you literally (would) die for it...
