In this video, I begin by walking to catch a San Antonio city bus. Then, I transfer to a second city bus, before arriving in downtown San Antonio. From there I walked to the Greyhound bus station and boarded a bus to Monterrey, Mexico. Trip time eight hours.
From San Antonio, the bus stops in Laredo, then crosses into Mexico.
Once on the Mexican side, the bus stops at immigration. A inspector gets on, and if your not a Mexican, you must get off the bus and get a pass (tourist card). Then you get back on the bus. Next, everyone gets off the bus, with all their bags and goes through X-Ray. The bags go through X-Ray, not the people. :)
After that everyone walks out the door on the opposite side of the building and waits for the bus to arrive. And after that, everyone boards the bus and the trip continues.
Next stop, the bus station in Nuevo Laredo. Then it's on to Monterrey, Mexico.

Hey nice video - i have a quick question though. Now on your way into Mexico were you stopped by US-CBP who boarded the bus and did any checks on the US side??

@thealternativevlog
@thealternativevlog 4 года назад
@@bjdeee1239 It's a simple quick process. Going South: Bus will skip US immigration. On Mexican side, bus will stop next to immigration building. A guy will get on bus, to inspect passports. Once he sees your not a Mexican citizen, you will be told to get off bus, walk into the building, and get a pass. In the building, you show your passport to an employee, and in English he will ask you, where your going, for what reason (tourism) and how long you will stay. He'll then have the person next to him, fill out your tourist pass. In a couple minutes, you'll get your pass and passport back. Then, walk back to bus, and when they (immigration people) are ready, everyone gets off bus, with all their bags, and as a group, everyone goes in the building and gets their luggage X-Rayed. Everyone walks out the opposite side of the building and waits for the bus to drive around. That's it. There are no secondary, interior checkpoints for bus travelers. Coming back to the USA: The bus will skip Mexican immigration. And the process, is about the same. Expect, on the US side, they ask more questions. Like, where were you? (Monterrey) Who did you stay with?(Myself) Where did you stay? (Hotel) Where you going now? Do you live there? Etc... Your bags will also be X-Rayed on the US side.

Leon, Guanajuato? I suggest you visiting the northern zone, it is a little bit pricey but worth visiting. You can visit Plaza Mayor and maybe you could visit el bosque country club, it is such a beautiful place with a lot of green grass

Thanx for replying to my previous question. one more, when u get to the mexico side - does a mexican immgration officer enter the bus and collect passports of US citizens and take it with them before the passport holders get off the bus and go into the office for questioning and searches??
@thealternativevlog
@thealternativevlog 25 дней назад
Yes, most of the time. Or when the bus is full or near full. The Mexican immigration guy takes your passport and you as a non-Mexican citizen gets off the bus first, walks into the building, and then line up at either a door or window. He usually starts in the front of the bus and works his way to the back. As he gets to you, you give him your passport, then you grab your carry on bags and get off the bus. You also grab your big bags from under the bus if you have any. Then you go and line up inside the building. When he gets back, he usually fills out your tourist pass, and places it into your passport. So, when it's your turn, you just give your name, maybe say where you're going if asked, and then pay the tourist pass fee. Then you walk to the bag X ray machine and human metal detector and proceed out the door on the opposite side of the building and wait for the bus to come around and pick everyone up. Only the first time I went, I was able to get a free seven day tourist pass. The other times, they just hand you a 180 visitor pass and you have to pay like $25 or $30. So, be prepared to pay and get a 180 visitor pass.

do you think it might be easier if I fill out the mexican turist pass form online, print it out and then when the mexican inspector gets on the bus i wouldn't have to get off the bus since I already have the form ready?
@thealternativevlog
@thealternativevlog 2 года назад
Everyone eventually gets off the bus and walks through the bag check (X-Ray) area. After that, everyone waits for the empty bus to return after it's been checked. Also, sometime (most of the time) you have to pay for the tourist pass. Getting the pass is not a long process. I would not bother with doing anything online, as a way to save time.

Hello. I live in Houston. I’ve been told traveling to Monterrey is dangerous. I’ve been thinking about driving to Laredo, then getting on the the grey hound there and taking the bus the rest of the way. Anything to be worried about they you know of?

The Alternative Vlog thank you for your response. Plane tickets were cheap before covid19 but now they are $300 dollars plus. I’ve had to look into other methods to continue to go back and forth between Houston and Monterrey. Looks like it’s going to be the bus, unless airfares go back to normal.

Do they ask for proof of ticket out of Mexico?
@thealternativevlog
@thealternativevlog 3 года назад
When entering Mexico by bus. On the Mexican side, they only ask where your going, reason (tourism) and how long your staying. They have never asked me for proof of return ticket. They sometimes ask how your leaving, via bus, plane, etc. I would be prepared to buy a six month visitor pass ($30) from them, even if your only staying a few days.
