Hey Ryan, I grew up among an aboriginal people in the Amazon basin and the hunters in our area made an arrowhead that would translate as a "bleeder tip" for bigger game like pigs and tapirs. It is made from bamboo and the slight curvature of the arrowhead (from the bamboo) would hold the wound open to ensure a lot of blood loss to make tracking easier (and kill quicker). Just wonder if you've ever heard of it/tried it? It seems like it would be absolutely ideal for your situation. They were surprisingly poor shots at distance (we tried to have a contest once and were very surprised when they couldn't hit a target consistently beyond about 15-20 yards) and I think the bleeder tip was not good for accuracy but the very close shots you're taking are almost exactly what they used it for.
@huntprimitive9918
@huntprimitive9918 6 лет назад
yes, i am very much familar with it and I have one from Papua New Guinea built the same way. Definitely made for up close shots. I was insistent on using one but I still havnt found one strong enough or sharp enough to deem what I feel good as ethical. but its still on my radar!

Hands down my favourite hunting videos on youtube very inspirational, hoping to try my first season of hunting ever this year, and though im not going full primitive more modern trad with the glass/wood recurve and carbon arrows I may have to try to go full caveman at some point. I figure for now going from zero hunting ever to going out with a single string bow is going to be challenging enough without adding making my own stuff. I also imagine ptimitive gear would put my effective range even lower than it already is

@spingebill8551
@spingebill8551 5 лет назад
Able Puentes I saw a video of someone use a blunt wooden arrow and shoot into a living tree with a homemade bow. You can just sharpen the wood or if you really want an arrow head, you can probably use slate. Don’t take my word for this because I haven’t used or seen slate being used, but in theory, since slate shatters easily, it could shatter in an animal you are shooting causing more damage but should penetrate less.

And I would say this is a good starting now that I could pass down to my son when he is older.But the package was missing the release and a nock was missing from one arrow.Dealing with customer support was terrible. They suggested I buy a new release rather than correct their own quality control issue because it’s to expensive for the. to ship it out from China.Update: manufacturer got back to me and resolved the issue. Take a look at myparang. I have one of them, they are crafted and made directly in Malaysia, where they are Used by the natives. Great steel, great looks and 100% function. They should be available on Amazon too. Or just look on google to find a dealer. MyParang Cheers, Mike

Check out "Florida Hunters Network" on facebook. they are a pretty big community and I occasionally see stuff like this pop up there. I do have a primitive hunting class is december listed on my website www.huntprimitive.com but that probably isn't what you are looking for

HuntPrimitive in Saskatchewan where I'm from I did a lot of waterfowl and I really enjoyed rabbit hunting with my slingshot fishing is a big one for me I just bought a speargun before I came down I left all my gear up there I made a move permanently and I only brought clothes so I'm starting new here and need to learn the laws and everything's different than Canada I'm sure the Canada you need licenses and permits and all that except for rabbit it's open season all year round and nobody says nothing about the slingshot but I'm definitely looking forward to getting to know everything so I'm not stepping on anyone's toes.

They say there is Hogs up there I haven't seen any and I've tracked a lot of bush up there and down here I'm driving on the I-95 South and there's Hogs coming right to the ditch

Excellent video, loved the bow. Going to check out your website, I’m slowly looking for a new bow but haven’t decided between long bow or short bow. Now I think I’ll go forge a spear and go get a pig! I’m inspired! Stay sharp my friend, Brackin blades forge

I need to learn trees and wood types to build my own bows and arrows. Nobody in my circle does it. All store bought. Maybe I'll have to pick up your book. My goal is to take fellow war vets to do as you're doing in your video for the benefits of it. Archery itself is great therapy but to drop almost anywhere and make bow and arrows would be awesome. Thanks.
