Folks,
in this video, i get out to bushcraft basecamp and do a few things. First, i make my first upside-down fire, which worked great. Second, I cut up some veggies and make some chicken noodle soup. Warm soup on a cold day! Third, i did do some work at the camp. I came up with a cool idea how i can store my pack and tools, carved a new pot hanger, and started working on another wall.
Thank you for watching.

How about making damper to go with the soup or stew. All it takes is some self-raising flour and salt to make.

I think a solid addition to the camp would be a hip/stomach height table. I find in my bushcraft camp it's nice to have a place to lay out things to work on. It would be a basic platform, just at a higher height than a bed or chair.

Regarding the smoke, try building a circle of stones, removing a couple of the front stones for air flow, and put a high wall of wood 3-4 feet tall in the back. Oxygen will come in the front, burn, and rise with the smoke where the wall in the back is, away from you and the shelter. Hope that makes sense. Lots of fun watching your videos. Thanks again.
@capturedbythepiratemorgan2650
@capturedbythepiratemorgan2650 7 лет назад
Exactly what I was going to suggest. To improve air flow into the bottom of the fire, creating less smoke and an even better upward smoke, you can also dig into the ground at an angle from the front opening of the fire pit, which should be shaped like a horse shoe. Just picture a U with the two ends slightly turned in towards each other. The more you can control where the oxygen is flowing from the more you can predict where the smoke will go. Open fires equal smoke going wherever the wind is.

Build a cache near your camp. Dig a square hole knee deep or more. Drive in upright stakes and go around the outside of the stakes with branches or cut wood sections. Make a lid with more branches. Then you can hide tools, tinder, spare tarp, twine, wire etc. Just cover it with leaves and dead wood to make it look like the forest floor.

Another great video bud! Camp soup is the best! I dehydrate tons of individual ingredients constantly which makes it easy to construct different recipes on the fly. instant potatoes are a great to use also to thicken and hearty up any meal. Shepards pie is a quick fav too. Hydrate your ground beef and veggies in water with a little brown gravy powder and when it's done just stir in some instant potatoes and whaaalaa!! delish!!! keep it up man your an inspiration to all!

you will find the old upside down fire will burn a lot longer with less time spent feeding the fire that is how the natives always built their fires and the bubbles you seen coming out of the wood was the wetness and sap leaving the wood great looking soup smart idea on a chilly day forsure you sure are making great progress on the camp if worst comes to worst you may need to move the fire so you dont get smoked out but time will tell once your shelter is complete great days work great progress my friend

The knot you were trying to tie was a clove hitch. The mistake you made was the end you were using to tie around the pot holder (standing end) had to over the end used to tie to the tripod (running end) before coming around again and under the the loop crossed over the running end. You basically ended up tying a half hitch, but as some others said already, if you can't tie knots tie lots. Awesome video. Need to build myself a camp like this, probably this summer.

Try making stickbread! make your bread dough the night before going out, put in a plastic bag to rise. When you are ready in the camp find a medium thickness branch and shave it clean, place bread dough over the fire and bake it up, slide off the stick when ready. It will be hollow so you can either fill it with chopped cooked meat or as we do butter, and syrup for a campfire sweet. Keep up the great work on the vids mate, really enjoying them here in the UK.
