Thanks for this, i always wanted to see these getting installed on an xj. Unfortunately Bushwacker is way out of my league pricewise. In my country these cost about $1000 which is insane for for it actually is. Quality wise nothing china-cheap gets it done so I made them myself in the end. The brackets of steel angle and the actual flares of thick conveyer belt, I got like 6ft for free in a local quarry. Ground it to shape with a flap disc. Painted the whole lot. It gets the job done well, plus the flares are soft enough to give in if need be...good for crawling thru the woods ;-) And even if you manage to rip some off, it only takes about 20 minutes to replace good as new. Thanks Tim for your input, always enjoy it, Martin

I got these about a year back and the the first time the tire hit them they started to pull through the sheet metal. Look great at first and still look good but no longer line up flush to the panel. Also FYI I trimmed a thin sheet metal to fit into the door gap and it stops all dirt and water buildup!

Luckily I have bumpstops set up pretty good now so hopefully I can avoid that. Good idea on the sheet metal!

I'm not a fan of fender flares, but in your case with full width full size axles, it really makes it look a lot better and the axles don't give the appearance of sticking way out to the sides like before

I'm pretty cautious actually... angle grinder guards completely inhibit the tool from working to their fullest potential. I have thousands of hours running them in work environments and haven't cut myself yet. I agree it isn't "safe" but neither is anything else in life - hold on tight!

Nice Job! Use the Diablo when doing stuff on the house with HardiPlank. Their other blades rock. Will have to look at the cut-off blade next. Maybe they are also less likely to explode and provide unwanted surgical needs like the fiber wheels are known to do.

Thanks for the Video! I like the way you work. 2 Questions - First is how did cutting the full length of the fender work out for you? I have already done three XJs and always followed the directions on that part but I am really tempted to do it your way. Do you have any regrets? Second is how did you like the Diablo cutting wheel? I typically use the high end of Dewalt wheels because they run cooler and last longer than other wheels I have used. I'm tempted to try the Diablo wheels but would rather avoid Home Depot if they aren't going to do a better job. I can tell that you are very comfortable with the grinder and the disk worked fine but, do you like it better than a good abrasive disk? Thanks again for the great video and any answers you might give to my questions.

I've been using a lenox diamond cut off wheel for a few months now. I really like it but doesn't it seem like its super loud compared to a normal abrasive disk?
@bleepinjeep
@bleepinjeep 6 лет назад
I've only used it with ear protection on and haven't really noticed a difference. It seems to work good on thinner metals, say 1/8" or less but it definitely doesn't cut in to thicker material as fast as a standard abrasive cut off disc.

They wanted you to bend that part because you removed a bolt , so when you bend it it will add some support for the bottom bolt of the new flares . Just keep an eye on it after going on the highway . If it starts flapping around or bending in/out weld or bolt a support piece behind it . Oh yeah I was wondering if you could do a quick little follow up on that diablo blade! I’m wondering if it can break and fly apart like the other normal cut of disks they sell
@bleepinjeep
@bleepinjeep 6 лет назад
Since filming this I've drove from Oregon to Moab, UT. Wheeled for four days and driven home. Between 2,500-3,000 miles round trip. No issues at all even going 80 mph, Utah's speed limit in some places. No problems with the Diablo cut off wheel, but it doesn't seem to cut thick metal very well. 1/8" or less it does a good job. If it does break apart it's going to be a hell of a show!

On the Bushwacker site it specifically says it won't work as it uses two factory flare holes to mount in the rear just like the front does. Nonetheless with a little ingenuity and some welding I bet it could work.

Not to sure where to ask this but my 91 XJ has a bit of a problem. At 35mph its in 2 to 3nd gear and when it shifts into 3rd gear the rpms will go from 1600 ish down to 1000 and get stuck even when i press on the gas the rpms will not go up and the exhaust hums quite loud and the Jeep is very sluggish. I followed the normal cut up between pinch welds to first body line and hammered that up. As a budget build I don't think I'm gonna do these anyway. Probably just cut fronts some and let it fly. It's not a daily so I think as far as laws go I could get away with it.

nvm im wrong its to pinch closed the panel that is the wheel well and the panel that is the visible body closed so no mud,dirt, water gets in there but you didn't cut high enough to need it pich it closed because you never opened it up

You should make a video for ppl who want these flares but have their rear wells cut and folded in.
@bleepinjeep
@bleepinjeep 6 лет назад
That would be tricky since the rears use two of the factory flare holes to mount just like the fronts do. On the website it states that these won't work if you've already cut out your fenders.

Exactly why Bleepin Jeep should make a video and help a brotha out! Tons of guys out there looking for a hack/solution for this. If anyone could do it, it’s Bleepin Jeep!

Yeah i bought my XJ and they may or may not have left me enough room to put fender flares on . They cut the front fenders .

Are these really worth $500+? I've always like them but they seem far too expensive for what they are.

I was in the same boat for a lot of years. These flat style flares always looked the best to me but the price was discouraging. After installing this set and seeing the quality of everything (even the instructions) I'm honestly pretty impressed. If you need a set of flares I think these are certainly a good choice and made in the USA.

Wolfeman4sure I have Napier precision flat flares, they are high quality. A bit cheaper than bushwacker, made in USA

I remember when they started the channel, Tim used rubber hose from Home Depot or somewhere like that to protect his cut fenders. This channel has grown so much. They are always helpful with their how to videos.

How big of tires and lift do you have

Checkout the "Project Green Machine" playlist on our channel please. It has all the mods on this Jeep. I have 4.5" coils up front and 3" leafs in the rear but that doesn't directly correlate to most XJ's because I have larger axles and custom spring perches.

@@bleepinjeep do you think someone with a stock 2-door XJ can fit 35s with a rubicon 3.5” lift and bump stop like crazy?
@Noejr5

@@DustySteel Yes, you should be able to. Trimming required, doing 35s with 3.5 metal clock front springs and rear OME Leafs.

Can I take out my Fender Liner and not have a problem?
@bleepinjeep
@bleepinjeep 6 лет назад
Yes. I haven't had mine in for a year. It does subject your door hinges to water and dirt though. Keep them lubed... I'll be puting mine back in eventually.
@EyebrowsMahoney
@EyebrowsMahoney 6 лет назад
Can confirm. I've been running without mine since I swapped the fenders to Late models on my 93 XJ. The mud packing and wind noise can be a touch annoying (though, kinda expect that already... these things are bricks in a wind tunnel) but it won't hurt anything.

Eyebrows Mahoney what about for the Washer fluid Reservoir
@EyebrowsMahoney
@EyebrowsMahoney 6 лет назад
Wouldn't know because my 93 has it on the firewall. Tim may have a better idea since his is a 97+. Last I saw one was when I was pulling off my fenders for the late model fender swap and that was decades ago in my mind.

How come you didn't go with buldge style fenders for the jeep? That would have given you even better clearance and you would not have had to cut brand new fenders. I like the way they look and you did a nice job of installing them. But given the issues you had before, do you think you have enough clearance now........or rather do you have enough clearance since it's probably been at least a few weeks since you installed these.

Thanks for the question! I just got back from EJS and ran numerous trails with these flares. Zero contact issues. I don't like the look of the bulgy flared on XJ's. That's why I went with these.
@austinbottensek9878
@austinbottensek9878 5 лет назад
You still have to trim the fender with the bulgy ones
