In today's Business Analyst Training we are talking about the acceptance criteria and how to write them. Included is an in depth example of a real world problem and how the acceptance criteria can be written to help the development team write to solve this problem. I also expound a little on the role of the business analyst on the agile team and whether or not modern agile needs a business analyst role or just the product owner. I also share some practical tips on how to format the acceptance criteria and what to look out for when you write your user stories and acceptance criteria.

Seriously one month into the BA role and I'm feeling the heat , getting answers from relevant stakeholders is a huge challenge , and handling Developers query is another one

Ash hey Ash..I’m in the same boat as you. I recently joined as an entry level BA and I’m feeling the heat too. Acceptance criteria, user stories, workflows. Let me know if we can connect to discuss some of these issues.

This pretty much matches my experience as first a BA and now a PO. I like your idea about bracketing changes to AC. If there is any complexity, it is almost a given that the developer will find scenarios and exceptions that you didn't consider which will necessitate additional or amended AC (which, in turn, could change scope - which is a different issue). I usually make notes in the comments about what changed, but the brackets are a great idea as a visual to call them out within the AC.
@karaleise
@karaleise 4 года назад
Hi Steven, thanks for watching the video! I find that bracketing changes with a different color really does help call out the change better, because things can get lost in the comments and not everyone reads all the comments. Also some developers are serious about making sure they deliver only what's in the acceptance criteria and not necessarily what's in the comments.

Scrum doesn't have a BA as a role but the BA is important and falls under the role of a PO. I have a BA on my team and the skill set is very important. Kudos keep up the good work 👏🏾.

Hi Kara, This was a really good example. I would like to know your approach to convert the above above AC(as its lengthy enough) in Gherkin format? Do you recommend going for multiple scenarios to define AC's using Gherkin or keep all details in single scenario as you explained above? Please help me clarify this. Thanks in advance.

hi K thanks for your awesome videos, please do you have videos on story slicing?
@karaleise
@karaleise 2 года назад
Hi Great LadyP, thanks for watching my videos and supporting my channel. Story slicing refers to figuring out how to break a complex solution into manageable chunks and how to have the right level of detail in the user story so it can be estimated. Its not really a common industry term in practice (only in textbooks or maybe a particular manager likes to use that term) so dont be intimidated by it. They are simply asking you to write good user stories - thats all. Here are some videos for that: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sqrFUYvs_Fw.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Enps6gDa-mw.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-x_4aZ-im5aU.html Hope that helps

Hi Kara, Thx for the video. Could you use tool like JIRA to explain better since we are not all experienced BA's
@karaleise
@karaleise 4 года назад
Hi Wisdom, thanks for checking out the video! So the tool really is the least important thing, whats important is the thinking and figuring out how to best break up a big feature into smaller, more manageable chunks. That being said, I know Jira is the tool of choice for many, so I will do an example in Jira for you, but I don't want you to be distracted by the tool. I want you to focus on honing the skill.

Didn't think to list the validation/error handling in the user stories , usually include this in the Re engineered Process swimlane/conceptual Diagram. Will def check it out. What tool do you use to do your mockup?
@karaleise
@karaleise 4 года назад
Hi Tyrhonda, thanks for checking out the video! Since the errors are handled in the code they should definitely be in the user stories as that is the source of truth for the developers. The process diagram should translate to the user stories completely so that nothing is left out. I have used a number of different tools to do wireframes, please watch this video for more on tools: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8uua7IRX6_M.html.

Hi,Is it valid to pick a screen shot of a feature from the web? Just to show to developer? Or is we need to come up with some solution or an idea of our own? Please guide as I am just transitioning into BA role.
@karaleise
@karaleise 4 года назад
Hi Vatsalya, thanks for checking out the video! Yes, you can certainly pick a screenshot from the web to show the developer if it clarifies an idea. However, it would be far more effective if you could create a mockup specific to your project so that the developer can see exactly what you intend. Hope this helps!!
