Well I was gonna brag about knowing that it was a 787 because I'm a plane geek but then Evan went and said it so I'll add that it's a Boeing 787-9, slightly bigger. Wish I could afford a long haul ... Hopefully I'll be flying planes for Emirates in the next 12 years!

As a true plane geek, you should know that China Southern isn't getting deliveries of the Boeing 787-9 until 2018, and the plane Evan is flying on is the shorter 787-8

I'm not sure what those rooms are for. I guess they're unofficial napping rooms or they could be spa stuff. I know in many virgin lounges they do hair cuts and full spa stuff.

Don't feel bad girlfriend. Someone switched seats with me from first class to sit with her boyfriend in couch. I was given a hot towel wrapped up by the flight attendant and I ask if was a steam Vietnamese Spring Roll.

Gave up flying China Southern business class after my last terrible experience from Japan to New Zealand. Great seats on the 787 on the long-haul from China to NZ , but nothing at all to speak of on the A320 from Osaka to China. Chaos after an unannounced 6 hour delay in transit....no 'sorry', no help with missing my connecting domestic flights in NZ!!!

From one American to another, I'm actually taking China southern next year to go to Thailand via Guangzhou. I'm assuming you needed a visa to enter China, but do you know if you need one to just transit?

It looks like you only need the visa if you're leaving the airport or staying in the airport for over 24 hours (which, oh man I hope not). As long as you have a confirmed seat on another flight out of China within that 24 hour window, you don't need a visa if you're just passing through!
