In early January 2020, Zume announced that it was ending pizza production and refocusing the company as a provider of packaging and automated production and delivery systems to other food companies; the changes entailed laying off 53% of the company's workforce, and potentially more.

The people at Zume pizza are like the people GTA 5 made fun of, they were spot on lol.

Zume: We wan't to be a national chain. Our main demographic is guys in their mid 20's who earn 140k a year...

I've been watching vice for some years now and have gone through a number of shows and presenters, after following along the pizza show I have to say that hands down, Frank is one of the best fits as a presenter. Sincere, friendly, knowledgeable and passionate about what he is documenting. Many hosts or purists would bang on about how the robots are a sin to pizza but Frank looked at it with open eyes!

Who the fuck even dislikes this heavenly show!!

Frank's mom must be very proud of him. He is an engaging, honest, positive person, who really knows his stuff. He's not condescending to people doing different things. What a charming young man.

Have you met our "techie average customer" who makes up 48% of the marketplace? Don't worry, he's more than just a statistic to us. He's a person and his name is "Lang"? He's Asian btw. Have you seen our amazing robots?! We don't like the idea of treating anything over here like a tool to be used (see above, humanistic workplace), so we decided to name them. CAUSE THEY'RE PEOPLE TOO! They do most of the legwork for the company and are constantly slaving away making pizzas, so we decided to give them Mexican names like "Juan" and "Pepe". At (insert startup name) we don't believe in work, we believe in doing what you love while "pushing the boundaries" of technology. One pizza at a time.

I'm not sure this message will ever get to these awesome pizza makers, but still. I'm glad there are still people like you and I'm glad big companies get big shares like this in the cooking industry. Having to eat blank meals (and I'm not talking only about pizza here) only makes it sweeter when you go to a local place, like a family Pizza Shop and enjoy their heavenly pizza. I'm from Romania and this happens to us too, but more and more local family businesses started appearing and growing because we can taste the difference. I'd rather pay 20$ for a slice of pizza instead of 5$, when I can definitely taste the difference.

The zume pizza girl seems crazy, almost brainwashed

I had a pizzeria with my brother in a college town. Everything fresh, done right, with a recipe from the original owner of the pizzeria in the spot we had, decades old. Dining room packed every weekend, fairly busy most nights. Our pizza was a little less expensive than the chains, and we delivered in a 15 mile radius. I eventually left, and my brother had to close. Even the guy down the street who had been there for over 30 years eventually closed, he was the most popular place in town, he'd have a line down the block when the bars closed. As I drove through town last, Domino's and Papa John's delivery cars all over the place. Applebee's and Chili's were always packed to the gills. I guess people go for what's familiar instead of what's better.

Its beautiful to see these guys come together and have a good time talking about one of the simplest yet most delicious food on earth.

This has been such a great and well rounded series and frank is a great host. His love and respect for pizza is undeniable.

zumes business model seems ridiculously unprofitable

Mark: "I'm not about making money, I just love making pizza", Also Mark, $28 for a cheese pizza at his place. You can get 4 pizzas at dominos with 2 toppings each for the price of one of his cheese pizzas. The chains exist because there are plenty of people in NYC who can't spend $28 on a cheese pizza

Zume seems too focused on is being 'distruptive' in the industry, rather than quality... You know they would fire those low-paid human workers if they could figure out a robot to evenly add fucking cheese in a circle.

Seeing all these family owned, pure pizzerias and then seeing Zume robots, it bummed me out.

The guy in the beginning said he doesn't care about money, he cares about making good pizza. You can tell he's passionate about his craft and that's why his pizza is good. The people at Zume are passionate about technology. I'm sure if I wanted to eat their technology, it would be great, but their pizza is going to be mediocre at best.

I had Papa John's ONCE, it was so bad, never again, I had Domino's a few times but just because it was close, my boss would order it for us. Little Caesar's is not horrible but again I have only had it a few times. I ate Pizza Hut at least once a week as a teen but only because they had arcade games back in the 70s. I finally gave up and learned how to make it at home...as a matter of fact I have ziplocks of dough, tubs of home made sauce and fresh motz in the fridge right now to give as a house warming gift tomorrow. A gas oven and a pizza stone are a must LOL!

Watching the earlier episodes which are filled with passion of pizza the robots were really a put off, it's like handing a paint brush to a painter, no wonder they diversified

Back in the 80s, a local pizza business in Los Gatos started a business cooking pizza in route. They made the pizza on the truck, cooked it and by using two-way radio was able to know where to deliver the order.
