Hi my people! Before you dive into any of these businesses, please check the trends & talk to people in the business. I'd say don't but if you must, please do your research!!

Your information is always valuable. I was waiting for when someone will talk about the car shipment business. My uncle shipped a salvage titled car that cost him $5k and he cleared it at customs for almost $4k in Ghana. Luckily it is to be used and not sold but I was shocked by the customs levy. 😢😢
@NanaAshanti
@NanaAshanti Год назад
In 2018, I paid 2k to clear a car. That same car will cost me 5x the price to clear just 5 years later. It's insane! We should have a free port, out of all other West African countries. What a shame.

yes the restaurant business is saturated with low profit margins but if you can find a niche it can be profitable, i am sure you have heard of Csptain yaw which does fish and chips and targets british expats , there is a market in Ghana for us soul food and vegan restaurants.
@NanaAshanti
@NanaAshanti Год назад
I have seen that. Niching down is always a good idea for the service industry but my worry is that, is it sustainable? Can it be your major gig? If it's serving to primarily diplomats, what happens when they move on to something new? 🤔
@yo-a
@yo-a Год назад
Not only diplomats, expats, returnees and tourists. Their business is booming and they have grown so much in just a few years. If Ghana is going to be the tourist hub it claims to be aiming to be, the only way is up for Captain Yaw’s!
@NanaAshanti
@NanaAshanti Год назад
Okay and when a new spot, like I said, opens and copies the menu as everyone seems to be doing, what's next? 👀 Because, personally I advice businesses to include the local population in their target market in Ghana. They are the mass market.
@yo-a
@yo-a Год назад
@@NanaAshanti you’ve lived in America before right? Didn’t know there was a monopoly on restaurants in Ghana. Also clearly the mass market also likes Captain Yaw’s as they have been booming.

Ghana car tariffs are such a killer . Best to ship to Cotonou and then pay the cross border tariffs which is lower. Most people evade it by buying accident cars , bring it in and have it assembled . The labor is cheap. Make sure you buy all your parts abroad and ship in as spare parts.
@NanaAshanti
@NanaAshanti Год назад

This a great idea! It's only Ghana that is really extortionate with their fees. Our government is such a struggle
@NanaAshanti
@NanaAshanti Год назад
Too much strife. Stress!
@daltona1076
@daltona1076 Год назад
If you ship to Cotonou or Ivory Coast, you will still have to pay the same Duties as importing into Ghana if you want to register it in Ghana. Which is why you see a lot of cars with Togo, Ivory Coast and Nigerian plates in Ghana...so they have 90 days to stay in Ghana. So what they do is every 90days, they drive across the border to Togo or Ivory Coast, spend a day or the weekend and drive back which resets the 90days.

@@basementkid The Nigerian government is far much worse than the Ghanaian govt. Even many Nigerians will tell you that Ghana is ahead of Nigeria with respect to governance. Nigerian govt is zero governance!

99% of the cars in Ghana are imported. There has to be a way that people are importing all of these cars. I've been talking with people about this a lot recently. But my landlord told me the same story. He imported a car and the car will cost more to clear through customs than the entire value of the car. So the business must be in figuring out how people are doing it because the costs of all the cars here do not reflect that doubling of price.
@NanaAshanti
@NanaAshanti Год назад
If I know Ghana, I'd say the importers "know someone who knows someone" & may be getting cheaper clearing options we just don't know of, publicly because these fees and taxes are such a business killer. Someone said something about clearing through Cotonou in the comments. Must be it.
@daltona1076
@daltona1076 Год назад
@@NanaAshanti A lot of the cars been sold in Ghana that are imported are imported as parts. They saw the cars into halves and import them in as parts or import Salvage cars in parts in a container which allows the duty to be low, then when it gets to Ghana, they now weld it back together and put all the parts together. So a lot of the cars on the roads in Ghana are not really road worthy. Which is why a lot of folks that want to use their cars prefer buying the cars and ship it in which gives them a peace of mind. With all that said ...the duty on clearing cars in Ghana is ridiculous. How can clearing fees be more than the price of the cars. I want to ship my car in the US to Ghana but the price to clear the car is so ridiculous that I was like its not worth it.
