Most motels dont take cash because someone may come in at night and murder them. If you owned a motel in Chicago, I doubt if you would take cash. Many businesses could care less, if a customer would tell them to take their business somewhere else, because soon, no one would take cash. All grocery high extra people that all they do is all day long is count cash, & these extra people make the price of food go up in price. Most stores dont take checks, because they are bad, & because customers dont want to wait all day long for a customer taking forever to write a check.

you fail to see the big picture. The very people that finance businesses are controlled by the Federal Reserve. WHO owns every greenback in our wallets? Look at who's name in on every bill... that's who owns it. They allow you to use it, that's all. FedNow was brought online earlier to commence the switch to CBDC. This happened after Hurricane Matthew here in Savannah.....there were fistfights because the poorer people had cash when the machines didn't work. Only 1 Publix was open for miles and the gated community people hated being behind poor people.

I saw this happen in my own neighborhood. They built a brand new Whole Foods. I think they call it 360. Anyway, there was a restaurant called yellow fever. I waited in line just like the 10 or 20 of us that were there. When I got to order I ordered. Go to hand her Cash. She says they don’t take cash. I was like cancel the order and I left. I was told the food was great. The service was great. Everything was great. In under two years, they were out of business. Unfortunately for them, there’s a lot of us that are not gonna use our plastic on a simple food order.

Rights for me but not for thee? A business should conduct its business the way it sees fit. If the public doesn’t like it then the business will be out of business. It’s called the free market. Would you force a business in downtown Oakland to accept cash if they thought cash on the premises was a safety issue? Or would you allow them to decide for themselves?

I don’t think so. I’ve seen plenty of businesses say they won’t accept anything larger than a 20 dollar bill. What if you have a wad of fifties and benji’s? Those bills are money as well. Waitress 25 yrs! I thank you for all of us! In the restaurant business wait staff have the most fun but get the most heat. Any problem comes out of our tip. Today most people, esp young people cannot be waiters, waitresses. It is demanding both mentally and physically. Diplomacy patience, conscientiousness and efficiency. Training for life. Owners aught to recognize we are the frontline to success in this hospitality business. And the best coffee. Good coffee is the last experience the diner will have. Retail business establishments that won't accept cash are chopping off their hands and arms. Cash is what makes this country work. Cash is what tells people that their work has a productive element that has value that is reinforced in money. Money (cash) is not the root of evil. Ayn Rand wrote about this and her words will live in history to remind people why money as cash is so important. Cash is legal tender and credit cards are only a time payment promise without value. Gold and silver are money. All other stuff is credit and fluff.

I picked someone up at the airport recently. The arrivals curbside drive up area was a nightmare so I went to the hourly parking deck instead. Signs were up everywhere saying they no longer accept cash. It used to be you got a little ticket and then could pay it while walking out of the airport at a little kiosk in the parking garage with either cash or card. If the pay kiosk wasn't working there would be at least one booth with a person at the place you drive out and you could pay there instead. Now NO kiosk and NO booths with a human. They ONLY accepted a credit card at the machine at the exit gate. The person in the car in front of us was obviously fumbling around trying to figure out how to pay. After trying cash and realizing there was no place to put it at that machine, they were trying to use their phone to "tap pay" and that wasn't working either. I would have preferred to pay cash. I was out in under 15 minutes and the attendant used to charge less for under 15 minutes. With the new machine I had to pay for a full hour. No option. Now there is also no option if someone drove in there by accident and drove immediately back out without parking-- They would have to pay for an hour of parking now to get out but in the past the attendant would look at their ticket and let them out without a charge. I didn't even see a way to call a person if the machines stopped working... I'm sure it's all video monitored but how long would it take for a person to appear if there was an issue?

Dan, I went to an amusement park two weeks ago, and the signs at the entrance said "we are now cashless" wtf?? All we had was mostly cash! Ohh but wait..just take your cash to this converter machine we conveniently have in the park, and put it on a debit card. Unbelievable. My 3 yr old granddaughter played the pick - a -duck game, 3 ducks for $10! Unreal! Also went to a local ice cream shoppe today, and all they take is cash now!! I'M SO OVER IT ALLL!

Today, I received a flyer for a new Pizza restaurant in West Los Angeles. $33 for a large pizza. Does not include any sales tax, parking fee, tip. Instead I had a medium size pizza purchased at the grocery store during regular shopping. Under $8 plus any tax. Heated the oven. 12 minutes at 420 degrees, doing other cleanup in the meanwhile instead of just sitting and waiting.

Last Year I went up to Watkins Glen NY for the races. Pulled up to the entrance and found out they went cashless. If I hadn't driven over five hours to see the races, I would have left. That is the last time I will go to Watkins Glen until they bring back cash.

In S CA we have Aldi and the Mexican grocers like Superior and El Super. They have meats, fruits and vegetables on sale every week. I know things are more expensive, but with a large family I made most everything from scratch. You can easily make your own tortillas, bean filling and make burritos for the freezer. Make bread, cookies, buy whatever fruit is on sale for lunches for example.

I was at a company outing at a restaurant with a wishing well. I gave a coworker's kid, who was bugging me for a penny to throw, a quarter and he put it in his pocket. I told him that I know what he wished for, a quarter! He just smiled and walked away. No way I'll hand him my debt card!

We had our car worked on at an automobile shop. They told us that we could take $100 off the total price of the work done if we paid in cash. A lot of these businesses Do want cash, because then there is no proof of how much they were paid and they can skim off some of the total of monies they collected for services rendered when it comes time to pay their taxes.

I agree. I work the door at a venue and the fees added to buying a ticket through a ticketing app are up to 20%. You'd be amazed at how many people don't carry cash. but they have a million credit / debit cards.

Dan, NH has a TERRIBLE homeless problem. They started camping in the city but now they are in rural backyards, cemeteries, along the highways etc. Pembroke just had to fight a building getting transitioned into migrant housing. Pembroke is in the country and the building was on a flower farm. NH started "safe spaces" at fire stations in Manchester and every surrounding state is shipping the addicts/ homeless here now.

We went to NYC in June 2021 and decided to take a bicycle pedaler carriage back to the hotel, after a Broadway show, rather than a taxi. I never asked the price. It was a 10 minute or maybe less ride to the hotel and we were charged 125.00. It was a rip off. A taxi would have been 30.00. Never again.

The big problem with the post office is the set up for their employee retirement fund, some provision in the law that requires super excessive funds held in reserve instead of invested. This is not something required of other retirement funds, public or private. Only Congress can adjust this through legislation, have known about this for eight or ten years, but have done nothing. The Post Master, DeJoi, does nothing to promote this change. They could reduce rates tomorrow if this regulation was changed.

Single male here living on 400 to 500 per month for food..NON processed food also. Ground beef eggs butter and fasting 1 time or sometimes 2times per week for health. Never felt better!

Lots of small retailers charge a 2 to 4 percent charge if you use a debit or credit card. Mostly Mom and Pop stores or restaurants.

I was going to get a debit card, but if companies are going to charge a percentage on transactions, forget it. I use cash and checks, but it looks like checks are being eliminated as transactions in more and more businesses.

From what I understand its valid at a U.S. Treasury office counter and Federally chartered banks, private business transactions between businesses and customers are not covered by that regulation. You walk up with your paper dollar and they give you . . . 4 quarters, or 10 dimes, or 20 nickels, or 100 pennies.

About a month ago my son and I got into this argument about cash at a restaurant in the airport. He's 27 and I'm 54 and he thinks im being unreasonable about expecting a business to take my cash for their product. I told him there being discrimatory and someone should sue to put a stop to this nonsense on not talking cash.

I like the option. We have policy that only takes cards. Won't go there anymore. There's so much theft at PO I try very hard not to send anything in the mail. Happened all the time in CO in 2018.

I went to the tag office. Their card reader was down. It was cash or check only at that time. People had to leave because they had neither. I pulled out my checkbook and paid for my tag. A checkbook lasts me forever because I write them on occasion. Maybe we need to keep all ways of paying up for this example.

About the no cash accepted thing. Young people today can’t do simple arithmetic, many clips on RU-vid to that effect. And I personally have had experienced people who could not make change or calculate floor areas. Now I find out that schools don’t teach money skills such budgeting and balancing a check book. Never mind interest rates, compound interest, or the effect of interest on load payments.

There was a store in a city where I lived that kept getting robbed all the time. Two or three times a week. And the store was in a good neighborhood. After a few weeks of robbery after robbery, the owner decided there would be no more cash in the store at any time. He put up a sign to that effect. That solved the robbery problem.
