In this clip, Buster Douglas explains why he fired his father as his trainer. Buster revealed that his father made things tense in the gym by being combative and sometimes violent with Buster's manager and co-trainer, who is also Buster's uncle. He stated that his father would punch them during disagreements, which led to his team walking on eggshells around Buster's dad.
Buster then explained how the historic fight with Mike Tyson came together. As the number two contender in the heavyweight division, Douglas' victory over Oliver McCall thrusted him into the Mike Tyson conversation because McCall was one of Tyson's standout sparring partners. He explained that the fight everyone wanted at the time was Mike Tyson versus Evander Holyfield. According to Douglas, there were issues scheduling that fight for reason or another which caused promoters to schedule Douglas and Tyson as a tune-up to the anticipated Holyfield fight.

He felt like the fight was set up, for Buster Douglass to win when he saw that. I don't disagree. Whoever bet on Buster Douglass in that fight, is probably still living good off that money. If they bet a large sum of it.

@@deluxsound123 That was another excuse. That knock down was at the end of the round. Buster just needed to stand up. He was listening to the count and made sure to get up before the 10 count. Half of all knock downs you'll see have a long count. In fact Tyson was given a long count at the end when he lost the fight. I'm not putting down Tyson. He's a legend. But this was a loss and the end of his air of invincibility. And what Buster Douglass did was amazing. He shouldn't have it discounted by a bunch of excuses. Tyson was in shape. The count was reasonable and no worse than what Tyson himself got at the end of the fight.

Nah not really, im the biggest tyson fan i know easilly. Buster fought like a champion, the stars aligned for Mr Douglas that day. Even when buster was dropped at the end of the 8th, my dad (who was a bigger tyson fan than me) said "jesus man, you were winning!" I do think buster won the lottery by catching tyson at that strange time in his career but he beat the shit out of him plain and simple

I hate talking boxing with Tyson fans, key word fans, if you look at the replay you clearly see that Douglas was hurt for a second but he could immediately have gotten back up, look at the replay he went down, rolled over and slammed his hands in the ground out of frustration because he was upset for getting knocked down, then he did as he was trained to do and took the refs count and took his time getting back up. He was gonna beat the 10 count regardless. Tyson lost, fair and square, accept it, the fight happened 30 years ago and Buster Douglas won, move on. Mike and Evander literally held a press conference announcing their fight for later that year in 1990. This fight for Mike was simply supposed to be a showcase for the Japanese fans who were getting their one and only glimpse of a Prime Mike Tyson. Little did they know they'd be witnessing what I still consider the biggest upset in Modern Day Sports History if not ever.

@@frankpops645 Ehhh I don't know about all that. Mike got hit A LOT in that fight and even almost stopped Douglas in the 8th round (I think). This wasn't a "Phantom Punch" scenario. Mike got beat up that night and Douglas' Mom just passed away. It was literally a perfect storm.

First one to beat Mike,I remember that shit. Surprised a lot of folks,but I'm still amazed with how savage Tyson looks now compared to a lot of dudes he fought and even lost to back in the day. Tyson suffered mental defeat before Buster beat him physically tho and there is an argument that Tyson got fucked because of the ref not counting Buster out at the end of the 8th round,he wasn't right upstairs around that time and it got worse.
