Part 12: • Buster Douglas on the ...
Part 1: • Buster Douglas on Brot...
--------
In the latest clip, Buster Douglas explained the circumstances surrounding his loss to Evander Holyfield. After receiving a record-breaking $24.6 million, Douglas weighed in 15 pounds heavier than he did for the Tyson fight. The former heavyweight champion said the weeks leading up to the fight was a tough time for him between going through a court battle and trying to make weight four to five weeks before the fight. After losing 40 pounds before the Holyfield fight, suffered a third-round loss and went through a depression that lasted years. Buster Douglas' weight went from 246 to almost 400 pounds before he went into a diabetic coma, which he says was his wake-up call.

Your state of mind plays a huge role in how you perform mentally and physically. So cases can be made for both guys losing. Tyson's loss to Douglas and Douglas' loss to Holyfield. They both had problems in their life which offset their goals at the time.

Cant really compare the two. Tyson was in great shape as always for the buster fight. By the time the fight began Buster was 20 pounds heavier than the Tyson fight and you could tell his hand speed and legs were not the same either. Tyson had been Champion and in the public's eyes for years going into this fight so he knew better than Douglas how to handle the pressure, it never affected him before this fight and being Champ was new to Douglas so yeah I disagree it wasnt the same for both fighters!!!

Wish he wasn't interrupted while explaining exactly why he wanted the Holyfield fight. Of course money was the biggest factor, but how was the decision made? Was Holyfield applying a lot of pressure? The confidence factor seemed to play a role in the matchup and consequently buster's ensuing career. He seemed to avoid the idea of rematching Holyfield. I would like to see Vlad follow up on that question. I believe buster's decision to fight holyfield has a great impact on the entire division going forward

@hiphopjewels
@hiphopjewels 3 года назад
This part of the interview is painful to watch. This guy's best friend was his mother. She passed, and he had to focus on training for the fight of his life overseas. He NEVER got the chance to mourn properly. After winning the fight, he had the ultimate high, then he went back to the ultimate low because he didn't have his best friend to share it with. No amount of money fixes that. When he finally got to mourn, he got depressed, ate way too much, and didn't have a schedule that allowed him to lose that weight. His state of mind and physical condition was worse. Holyfield beat Tyson pretty easy, so the Holyfield fight was even tougher for Buster than the Tyson fight. Also, there was all the stress of the new fame of being the new Heavyweight Champ and the expectations you have to live up to. The death of his mom, the pressure of new found fame, and a harder fight were all looming over him. Vlad needs to be more sensitive about people discussing depression. I'm glad Buster checked him. That's why Godfrey and Lord Jamar are coming at Vlad, cause he's always focusing on money, how much he made and how much he values what other people made too.

Lot of thangs was going........take note casuals. Always gotta be on point and focus on your goal or find a way to get back on track. Whether going through divorce and bad management with fake manager and circle stealing from ya or you depressed from some other shit, ya gotta find that tunnel vision.

Lmao, I did too. I had to do a double-take when I saw the thumbnail. I thought someone had made an error when they did the title.

When buster mention all the lawyer drama to deal with and his head is not in the game and the fight is coming up in 5 weeks and wasn't any time to get ready. No buster you have aholes that work with you. Cancel the fight date and set a new date. This is your career and you are the champ. This is your dream don't settle for less. Give it all you have and if the out come is not good you can say not to the public but to your self you gave it all end of discussion.

Mike never took a lot of punishment in fights. And only went the distance in a handful of fights. If Mike has any long term mental issues it's the drugs and alcohol. Also they had him on antidepessants at one point which can also change your mental makeup

I feel really bad for Buster. If he would have beat Tony Tucker maybe things would have been different. He still has the biggest upset in Sports history forget just Boxing history. Happy he rebounded after those 4 years. Good dude

Douglas wint di many times over the years people have tried. He wants to take that win to the grave. No amount of money would get him to train and fight Mike. I wish he would train for 8 months to a year and give Mike a rematch. He should honestly want to get un shape for his own health.

Vlad can be very disrespectful, he keeps bringing up and also ridiculing these negative situations that Douglas was in at one point.

The man beat Mike Tyson!! All of that other shit is irrelevant....and he was paid 24 million for a fight, and lost. Thats what you call losing the battle, but winning the war.
