Buster Keaton is walking by and peers through a barred window while captured murderer "Dead Shot Dan" is having his picture taken. Seeing that the photographer is looking away, Dan moves his head to the side and snaps a picture of Buster without anybody noticing. Thus, when Dan escapes, the wanted posters all show Buster with his hands on the bars. Unaware, Buster moves on to a street corner, where he notices a horseshoe, and kicks it aside. The next man who comes along picks it up and throws it for good luck. Within seconds the man finds a wallet filled with money. After scrambling to find the horseshoe, Buster picks it up and throws over his shoulder. It strikes a policeman, who chases Buster, and soon other officers join the chase. Buster lures them into the back of a truck, locks them in, and escapes.
Afterwards, Buster sees a man arguing with a young woman. Buster defends the woman and throws the man to the ground. After walking away, Buster runs into the officers who had chased him earlier. He escapes by hopping onto a train going to a nearby town. Unfortunately for Buster, the town has heard of Dan's escape, and newspapers and wanted posters with Buster's picture are everywhere. The townspeople run from him in terror wherever he goes.
Buster is once again in the wrong place at the wrong time when the police chief on his patrol is ambushed by a gangster. The gunman's bullets miss the officer, but the smoking gun ends up in Buster's hand. He runs from the persistent police chief, inadvertently causing mischief all over the town. While on the run, Buster encounters the same young woman he assisted earlier, who invites him to dinner. At her home he meets her father-he is the police chief, and he furiously chases Buster all over the apartment complex. After the young woman helps Buster escape, the pair emerge onto the street where Buster observes a sign outside a furniture store that says "You furnish the Girl, we furnish the home!" He carries his date into the store.
This short contains one of Keaton's more memorable images: A distant, speeding train approaches the camera, and stops with a close-up of Keaton who has been sitting on the front of the train.

Without a single word this movie in 23 min tells complex and intricate, but yet very natural story, full of humor and twists. I am still recovering after Rise of Skywalker.

Buster Keaton it was incredible, unfortunately here in Brazil only Charles Chaplin's filmography came to us, we didn't know it. Fui descobrir somente 100 anos depois, incrível esse cara.

Usually films of this era appear monochromatic and flat. With color there's dimension, clarity, and make you feel as if you are there. This looks great and Buster Keaton a genius!

Nobody was quite like Buster Keaton. His stunts were one of a kind and quite dangerous.
@mwj5368
@mwj5368 4 года назад
I could hardly believe Buster's stunts and thought some were film editing tricks and did some stop action to try to catch the trick. So the stunt where he is high on the wooden fence and leaps down face first onto the sidewalk and partially over the curb is not film editing? Wow!

@@mwj5368 His most dangerous stunt of all is when he had the wall of a house fall over him. It is said that the director didn't know the extent of the stunt and quit on the spot. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FN2SKWSOdGM.html

If I remember correctly, these films really did have full length scripts.. they just didn't have audio at the time for video .. hence hand movements and every once in a while a slide showing some words to help carry the storyline

Beautiful, artfully done. I'm fascinated to see how it would have looked when they were filming, of course I love his films in black and white, as he's a beautiful, intriguing man, and surreal, poignant and funny. But for me I like to see how they look more like real life, the colour of his face, his hair, the ladies outfit, the adorable doggie and so on. They can exist together, the black and white original and the colour version, and be appreciated for different reasons.

Buster Keaton learned his "toughness" and flexbility while growing up as part of his parents' comedy vaudeville act from when he was only around 5 years old or so. It was very rough and tumble, but years of doing this made him the genuine 1st-class athlete he truly was. If you watch his feature films "College" or "Battling Butler", you'll see just how toned and sinewy muscular he really was! It's no wonder, then, how he made so many difficult stunts look easy! BTW - it was in vaudeville he learned that not smiling got him much bigger laughs. Hence the famous "Stoneface" nickname, which wasn't really accurate. He never smiled, but his face was very expressive when needed! Yes - Buster Keaton is not just my favorite comedian of all time, but one of my top favorite silent film stars - and my most beloved celebrity of all time as well. 😊❤️❤️❤️

@houstonhelicoptertours1006
@houstonhelicoptertours1006 4 года назад
The tech is nothing new or special and different solutions exist for quite some time now. It still needs per-scene adjustments made by an artist... and more extensive damage still requires a lot of manual work.
@spockboy
@spockboy 4 года назад
@@houstonhelicoptertours1006 My point was that this material deserves the attention. I was not commenting on the amount of automation vs manual work involved in said programs. I restore damaged photographs myself and am well aware of the work involved.
@houstonhelicoptertours1006
@houstonhelicoptertours1006 4 года назад
@@spockboy Hey, that's great. I did some restoration work on film back in the 90s, when you had to paint/repair everything on a Paint System or SGI by hand. My original point being; if no one has any interest in restoration of that specific material, then what? No studio or individual will do this work for free.
@spockboy
@spockboy 4 года назад
@@houstonhelicoptertours1006 Sadly it all comes down to greed and money. For example George Lucas "admittedly" was completely inspired by the Flash Gordon serials from the 1930's when he made Star Wars. So why doesn't the BILLIONAIRE give back a little and restore the original 35 mm prints at a cost of maybe 50 thousand bucks? Because he is a greedy, selfish, prick. Even just for archival reasons it would be a good thing right? Oh well :)
