Love these videos. Very useful and informative. I’m a bit surprised that in either of the two myths videos you haven’t mentioned anything about the gearboxes. Opinions seem to be all over the place in terms of the ability of the wrx box being able to handle more than x bhp, the chocolate gears and things to that effect. Keep ‘em coming, great videos

Thank you very much.. Gearboxes are a weird one, I've seem them break at std power and I also have customers running over 500 bhp on the std 5 speed box. As such I couldn't really hand on heart say they can take the power because they probably won't. If treated with respect though they stand a good chance 😎

I changed the original pump of my STI 7 from 2002 (200Mkm) for a Walbro 255 l/m, because after 20 years they tend to get tired, in addition I am in the process of changing the VF35 turbo, because it too was starting to get tired, for a slightly better hybrid model. I spoke with the turbo manufacturer and the mapper to act on the things that were worth it. The pink STI injectors are very reliable, the original regulator is very reliable too, the pressure sensor on the manifold may wear out, the interior rubber softens over time and may be causing the gauge to boost pressure. This is my experience😊

Haven't upset me at all, this was a bunch of good advice 👍🏻 The thing I will disagree on is the 'oil baffle plate' in that I would call that a windage tray instead. It's purpose isn't to stop oil sloshing around in the sump, only baffles in the sump will do that.

Great video series. Regarding the factory knock-control, Short Version: consider replacing your knock sensor if it has over 200,000kms on it. Long Version: when my rebuilt engine (on full-time E85 fuel) was on the dyno, the old/faulty knock sensor picked up some false positives and pulled 11.5 degrees (max) timing. This sent coolant temps through the roof momentarily. I later sent a sympathy card to my exhaust valves. For the tune (or the "map" for the soap-dodgers) the maximum scope of knock-based timing r3tard was set at 4 degrees (temporarily 0.5 degrees for the vanity dyno chart). I installed a fresh knock sensor pretty soon after.
@racedynamix
@racedynamix 8 месяцев назад
Interesting. Was it pulling lots of timing on the dyno pull with the faulty sensor?
@yowie0889
@yowie0889 8 месяцев назад
Exactly. The ECU pulled 11.5 degrees of timing (due to the faulty sensor) on the first "full noise" ramp-up. The temporary fix to get through the tune (plus different ramp rates) is described above. On the road (pre-tune on the old engine with bad knock sensor) I believe that the symptoms were presenting as the car managing ok for the first section of a hill, then throwing the toys out of the cot a few seconds into a steady up-hill, high-gear, moderate throttle situation. @@racedynamix
@racedynamix
@racedynamix 8 месяцев назад
@@yowie0889 ah. Great diagnosis and fix. Agree with the temporary steps to alleviate the symptoms causing other issues 👏 How do you find tuning on the E85? I ran my TA Impreza on race E85 and it was impossible to make it det..
@yowie0889
@yowie0889 8 месяцев назад
I'm the owner, not the tuner. Tuners seem to like working with E85 on EJ25s. Their comments have included that "best torque timing" is nowhere near the knock threshold and (in the case described above) knock was ruled-out as impossible in those conditions, allowing for the work-around to proceed with confidence. The recent tuner says he tunes all E85 cars with a "stoich" Lambda of 0.95 (instead of 1.0) because "slightly rich" works better for E85 in his experience. Driving the car with such a tune (and my wideband gauge), I am impressed that it will hold lambda of 0.95 under moderate performance conditions (as opposed to flicking to a full rich map all the time in normal driving). It makes for a smoother street car and saves fuel. Obviously there could be other factors of the particular tune at play. The previous tune was very twitchy. @@racedynamix
@racedynamix
@racedynamix 8 месяцев назад
@@yowie0889 we used to have pump e85 here and it was great initially but the turnover of fuel was so low that it just went off in the tanks in the petrol station and the tune was all over the place. Race E85 was awesome to tune on as it was super consistent so could be taken for granted that conditions would be equal. Now, in the UK, very few will bother with E85 and just run methanol mix instead with all of the issues that are involved with that.

Hello sir, first I want to greet you and thank you for the content you upload. I have been learning a lot with your very explanatory videos. Along the same lines, I have a question. I have a practically stock 2005 Impreza WRX. The only modifications I have are a larger turbo and a free flow downpipe. Recently, my car was tuned, but the tuner told me that I need to change the fuel pump, injectors, and install a fuel regulator. My question is: can I change the fuel pump without needing an immediate remap? I ask because I am planning to buy all three upgrades, but I would like to install the fuel pump and fuel regulator myself since I have some knowledge that would allow me to install those two. However, I am afraid that if I change those, it might alter the current map of the car. I understand that changing the injectors does require an immediate remap.
@racedynamix
@racedynamix Месяц назад
my pleasure 😎 In my experience the std fuel pressure regulator is absolutely fine until above 450 bhp and changing it to an aftermarket one can cause issues or concerns with the security of pipework/connections re fire risks. The std reg works really well. Fuel pump should be fine to upgrade without changes to the map unless your old pump was dying in which case it would run very rich depending on how much extra fuel your tuner put in to compensate for the lack of flow. If the old pump was working well then upgrading the pump will make no noticeable difference apart from better flow and ability to cope with when things are turned up. Injectors..yes worthwhile and yes would need tuning straight away 👍 I hope that helps 👍

Would upgrading the fuel rails for 450whp be recommended or would stock rail work well
@racedynamix
@racedynamix 7 месяцев назад
Good question.. In my experience they will be just okay at that point but parallel rails give a better distribution of fuel. Only do it if you can do it with good quality rails, proper braided lines and proper fittings.. It's not a cheap option as these are costly though. I got to 550 on std rails on my Impreza but fueling was easier to control with parallel rails after that as I knew each injector was seeing exact same pressure.

What about installing STi pink injectors on a EZ30R? Will it need a remap? Stock brown injectors got 280CC of flow, I think.
