Great videos, I have watched all of them so far between spare moments. Not often you meet someone that is a welder/machinist/mechanic. Interesting, as you welded the claw tips on, I rapidly skipped through the video (about 30 sec at a time) and watched as the hydraulics on the jaws slowly bleed down. I was just thinking about how to isolate the jaws from closing given a hydraulic hose failure while you were welding in the middle of the jaws. Maybe a 4x4 block of wood or a small jack stand up in the hydraulics would lock the jaws in place for the next go around. Had way too much safety training on how to isolate and eliminate any sources of potential energy for each job. Watching those jaws slowly close drove this home to me. Just a note to watch for next time - keep safe, I like the work and videos too much ! (and thanks for the note on keeping the fuel tanks full while doing a repair - makes sense rather that having vapors in there. I'm not experienced enough to know about any cooling, porosity issues and how deep of a root penetration is needed to make a good joint - mine always failed there !)
Great video!! I’m in same “field” I do mobile welding. Heavy equipment, complete rebuilds of lowboys, our Michigan special 8 axle heavy haul trailers, farm equipment, scrap yard crap… Was wondering what wire you used. I started using the Lincoln .045 elite, flows in like butter. Absolutely love the wire for jobs like this. And Lord knows for this type of work I never leave without taking my air arc gouger.
I am actively looking for a similar crane for my service rig. Love my Milwaukee grease gun also!! Great video as always and they are getting better and better.
One of my biggest problems, is poor or little communication. Or people who have no idea what they are talking about. Only to get to the job site and find a nightmare. It can sure make it for a long day. I always said my job would be better, if I didn't have to deal with idiots and BULLSHIT. Keep up the good work Brother And stay well !!!!
Many years ago, I had a photo shoot at the Galbreath plant in northern Indiana...it was amazing how low tech the office was, like something form the 1940's....but they make a great product......that night I had to jump in car and drive 700 miles down to the Volvo Truck Headquarters in North Carolina.....what a trip that was......love the channel, Paul
Often these jobs can go more than twice as fast with a good helper. Lots of little things have to happen in the back ground, before you can actually strike an arc. “ id rather weld than work”

Had to LOL when you called the roll-off a shit wagon!!! In a previous video you were working under power lines. It is good to be cautios - I worked at a local utility where they had a death due to someone in the brush pickup department cleaning up (there they had a leaf and brush service as part of trash removal). the driver parked in the wrong place so when the operator used the boom to clean up it came close enough to the distribution line! It arced oved, the boom operator died and the truck operator had a real hard time - thought of quitting, suicide and al the rest. He ended up coming back with a hell of a story to tell. Depending on what lines you park under, it could be 4 KV or 25 KV!!AND the lines will bend down to make contact! So you are right to be leery of that. Stay safe out there!
BTW for those who also didn't know (I didn't until just now). Grease worms aren't even a real thing, they aren't an animal that eats grease. It's pretty much a stealth insult directed at douche bags that don't grease zerk fitting/any other point on a machine or equipment. He kept saying grease worms ate the grease and I was like that is fracking absurd, there aren't any insects that eat grease. So I looked it up and yeah, it's just an asinine code word. I'm with you on being pissed that lazy people don't grease wear points but they already have overt names for people like that.
I know something is better than nothing, but a fork lift is not a safety support. Additionally; having worked on commercial and industrial equipment for over 32 years I can tell you; now that grease fittings are available doesn't mean the rollers will be greased ever again. If I were a betting man, I'd bet they won't be.
Awesome huge truck. Why did you get such a big truck? Just curious most of the time I only see mechanics with rigs that big. Would be awesome if you did a truck tour.
Greasable dumpster wheels is pretty funny. Most of those guys barely do maintenance on their trucks so you may as well forget about those wheels getting greased ever again. Oh well, keeps a guy busy.
You would think who ever called OFW to replace wheels, plus supply, would rather pay someone to grease wheels. I’m sure there are plenty of other jobs they could find for OFW.
Replacing the container rollers is a nice job for your apprentice. That way you can do more challenging jobs. I was also a welder and metal worker apprentice back in the early 90's. Practice makes master
Typical scrap yards. All the same. Bro be carefull standing under and inside that grapple with it unsupported. There is no holding or safety valve on those.if a line blowns on the tines they close with or without you in it. And you are putting on new tips so it's gonna close up tight.
Must be state work . The opposite end had grease fittings! Don't have a maintenance program, just have skilled welders do expensive work! No wonder taxpayers are broke..! When those roll offs are on board the rollers are chest height,perfect for greasing!
I have also used also jet rods for welding. 5 inch plates and lots of 7018 was my favorite rod for all positions, mig welding back then was for mostly new fabrication if you were lucky enough to be on that program on cnr seniority delegated that so I didn't have the chance at that point
Do the wheels have sleeves in them? From the first shot at the 3:25 mark they look to be hollow. Grease zerks will only work if they have sleeves in them
I noticed you run a multimatic 220. I just picked one up myself for the ac tig capability in a small package. I noticed in this video you were doing some carbon arc air. Just wondering if you have done that with the multimatic 220 or if you require a bigger machine for that?

Love the videos dude. Dont feel obligated to answer any of my questions. As youtube can be ruff to stay on top off. So what is your actual trade called? Are you an operator in the operators union but really are a welder, fabricator, mechanic. Iam a ndt guy by trade and I keep trying to google what you do. As it interest me. I plan on getting my cwi. But after that you never know . I work with a bunch of different trades . Iam just cant find anything in the googles for the stuff you are doing. I weld for funzies and for side hustles. But it never hurts to look around. Thanks dude.
I would call myself an Independent Mobile Welder. I specialize in doing things others can’t or won’t. You probably can’t find anything on google because I’m learning that there is not many guys like me. Not trying to brag. The crazy thing is that I’m all self taught and everything just kinda fell in place with some bumps in the road. I was thinking about becoming a CWI. Maybe one day.
@@OFW well thats super rad dude! I been teaching my self as well and been fixing a lot cracked trailers and rotten out cross members on mid 2000’s chevys. My ndt background and code welding friends has helped out tremendously. Thats ok to brag about the rad things you are doing or have done. Thats different the. Talking about shit you have not done. On the truck I’m running a hypertherm powermax 105. In the shop I have a powermax 65. My friend has the 85 and 45. All are awesome machines. Only Buy a Hypertherm they are simply the best plasma on the market.

The safety technique is lame! You can't work like this, under a container suspended on a forklift and a crane! The forklift can drive off, it can dump the load. Need to put support. Технадзор за такое в России должен отстранять крановщика от работы (ключевое слово - должен) ; ) Technical supervision for this in Russia should deprive the crane operator of a license (the key word is "should") ; )
what kind of safety program do they have at that company that they let you as a contractor or an employee work under a suspended load with no support.The company that I worked for would have you removed and not let back on the property
It’s an inside joke where the customer doesn’t grease the equipment and it fails because of that. So when someone like me shows up I blame it on grease worms.
