Sharp fret ends happen because wood dries and shrinks. It‘s a normal behaviour of wood. On affordable guitars the fret ends are not carefully grinded because of time and cost savings. In fact it‘s an easy fix: grab a bloc of hard wood, glue some sandpaper (280-350 grid on one side and 600-800 on opposite side) and have some passes at 45 degrees along all the fret ends. First with the rough grid, then with the finer. Go slow and with low pressure and check after every 5 passes the result. Don‘t be scared to round a bit the wood edge of the fretboard too, your hand will be even more happy. Finally roll a strip of 600-800 grid sandpaper around your thumb and have slow passes along the fret ends to smoothen and round the edges even more. You will feel how the frets grab the paper less and less, as a sign of getting smooth. Use the very last strip of paper till it falls apart, so the metal gets almost polished because the sand is more dull. (edit: one of my best and most resonant cheap Ibanez Gio had the sharpest fret ends ever. A paper pulled along was cut in half after 15 frets. If I had dismissed it because of that, I had missed a really wonderful guitar.)
I bought an EC-50 like 12 years ago and it was fantastic. No Sharp frets, three knobs, perfect action. I played it a lot. Same black color. Couldn’t believe at the time what a deal I was getting. I don’t know if they’re still getting made that well or if made in the same factory.
They don’t make them anymore. Every time I search it up, people always say the EC-50 is better than the * supposedly * better guitars like the EC-256 and possibly the 1000. It shows that just because the guitar is cheap doesn’t mean it’s bad because the EC-50 gets some incredible reviews and it’s rare.
@@heehee6809 Even with the great opinion I gave it up above, it is an exaggeration to say the EC-50 is better than the EC-256. Some guys just want to believe that. I have owned a relic EC-256 and currently own a lemon drop EC-256. The EC-50 is not better or even equal. However, if you have an EC-50 that hasn’t been fiddled with by an amateur repair guy, you really don’t need the 256. The 50 does just fine. It’s an excellent buy.
I just got an EC-50 trade with some pedals. Planning to upgrade bridge pickup. For me, this is a good metal guitar. LTD's are hard to get by here in the Philippines
thank you for the video and 3:52 thank you for saying that, I always felt the same way, also they can keep the saw your arm off cheap strap and the bendy twizler pot metal allen wrenches
Ha, yeah, I get what they're trying to do by providing all those cheap accessories, but much better to make the guitar playable out of the box instead. Thanks for commenting!
Maybe you had bad luck with your EC-10. I didnt have any sharp edges, like my Jackson did. Tuning stays well too. Only problem I have is neck shape, but thats not guitars fault.
@@ArtOfShredYT I really like the Epiphone SL. Got it on trade for a few things and really enjoy it. Nice Guitar. I set it up myself. I can deal with the note note sustaining much.
I was surprised with mine. I paid $110 open box. Freaking loved your review. First one of yours that I have seen. Really like your style and thank you for showing the fix!!!!
I would love to, but this channel doesn't make money (so far it has cost over $4k haha) so I don't have the budget for thousand dollar guitars. There is another option, though! If you want the guitar, buy it and have it shipped to me. I will review it, set it up to your liking (+ I'll polish the frets to a mirror shine), and ship it to you. What to do you think?
Good review. It sure is an awesome looking axe. Cant deny that. But I won't chance a buy just because of the sharp frets. Its Russian roulette. Thanks for posting.
@@ArtOfShredYT i liked your review style. You rolled up all the BS into a tight ball, opened your door, then kicked it into street. Walked back to you production space & gave us the facts. Always respect that kind of review. Naturally I'm subscribing. .
Of all the videos reviewing this guitar, you're literally the only one complaining about it 😂 Honestly, you just sound spoiled because you keep mentioning your "expensive" guitars.
Wtf you on about. I love cheap guitars. Want beginners to get something they'll be happy with. I spend my own money to review these guitars. Not all reviewers do.
