Butch Hartman introducing his kickstarter: "It seems today that all ya see, is violence in movies and sex on TV. But where are those good old fashioned values, on which we used to rely?"
Foxotic (your comment is funny, I just want to correct your information to make it funnier, I'm sorry if I offended you) the show finished, it wasn't cancelled. It even reran for a very long time before it stopped
Yeah, I can't understand how could he believe his audience would just jump inside the wagon and forget about *all the other services that already have been doing this*
So, he made this whole disaster of a kickstarter. Then he started yelling about "You can't criticize me if you're not an artist! I created your childhood!" Then he jokingly blamed Tara Strong for another voice actress's suicide, to her face. He is spiralling really fucking fast.
Why couldn't he just do a network specifically for indie animation. His a successful animator that could help so many young animators find a place to start and share their creations. This would have helped more then another regular "family friendly" network, which people already have.
There was that Noog Network app which I think was a prototype for something like that. But I think it's kind of dead since he doesn't mention it anymore at the end of his videos like he used to. Probably the biggest blow to that app was that you had to pay to download it. It deterred me away from checking it out as I'm sure the same can be said for a bunch of others.
Moonlight150 Would have been good if it had some sort of way to watch stuff even without having to waste so much (Maybe some sort of subscription like on Netflix and call it a day) liked the shows on there but welp
If i had the money Butch had, i would have sure as hell been well on my way to getting this accomplished and started small. Wouldve taken business classes and ect to get something like that done, even if it was just shorts. People want to see original GOOD content and indie is great for opening that up. it would have easily gotten new content continuously rather than doing this entire kickstarter that tries to cater to too much at one time. -
I have no problem with him attempting to make a somewhat conservative family friendly app/company. However, that quote by Butch does sound pretty egotistical and slightly creepy.
Considering how "hip" and funny the shows he created were when they came out its hard to believe he's trying to be a protective church dad to the internet
I know it's been two entire years and it's dumb to reply lol: but he made the concepts for the shows, he didn't actually write for them. When he DID write for them, he wrote what fans agreed were "the worst episodes".
@@CeaselessEnemy not only that, because Butch does art, people assume his art is the art from the show. BUT the artist that worked on Fairly Odd Parents, Danny Phantom, and Tuff Puppy are a different artist as well. I'm not sure how and if butch HELPED with the art but the finishing artists are what did most of the work. the sharp pointy lines are super iconic and i've only seen people talk about the artist recently from all this drama.
I caught my nephew fapping to Danny Phantom porn. *There’s nothing wrong with Danny Phantom, only the porn that’s made of it, like c’mon, of all the shit you fap to, you can’t even fap to real people? Hey, at least it’s not anime I guess.*
Kowalakun X3 When it didn't quite work, his folks they just quit, But then Charlie took a look inside of it, There was a great big flash, everything just changed, His moistness got all rearranged!
i know this comment is two years old but: 1: it's a form of advertisement 2: it lets the creator know if people are actually interested in the idea before they make a big investment in it
Yo Butch Hartman he was just 53, when he built a very strange Kickstarter It was designed to do, what netflix already does It's not gonna work, because he's Butch Hartman
Trying to filter it automatically is just begging for people to try to put something through it that is not family friendly. And find away around it, which shouldnt be incredibly hard
People do that to every platform. And it's good that they do. It helps force the point that relying on machines is extra ironic when you're talking about raising your children correctly. You hand your kid a box to babysit them and then gripe that it gave them ideas that you don't approve of. That's your fault and you shouldn't be able to get away with it. Your kids are *your* responsibility, no one else's.
This makes me really glad my parents - both relatively conservative Christians - never bought into the “Pureflix” or family-friendly media thing. I watched PBS alongside classic movies and adult-shows in the vein of CSI as a kid and was a devout horror novel fan since elementary school, and I grew up fine.
Im glad that my mom, even though Christian, let me become an Atheist, did not try to purify me and actually likes the fact that I enjoy adult humour more than this stupid pg 13 shit. I remember like when I was 11 I gone to YT kids, and left the instant. It was garbage. People need to realize that kids are humans, and have taste, dont like content that a 5 year old maybe would've liked and that kids do in fact grow up.
Can everything stop trying to be family friendly. There are just too many services trying to be Family Friendly now. At this point Family friendly just means a hell of a lot of censorship to the point of absurdity, or is just for kids. To me everytime I see family friendly thrown onto any concept that would excite me, I just think "oh no, so it's going to be poisoned". There is a reason family friendly content is a meme for RU-vidrs.
Hey, dignity hasn't done anything for me so far. If you're watching Cr1tiKal, you know the keys to success are shameless shilling, and a complete lack of a mortal soul. Still weighed down by the soul, to be honest.
Let me get this straight, conservatives hates snowflakes, while creating more snowflakes who live their whole lives insulated from reality while being indoctrinated in an old mummy's scriptures. It's almost like they're the same mindless followers they whine about.
Well, I'm here nearly a month later to say......he made it. He somehow actually made his goal. Worse yet, it appears to be a scam for a Christian based streaming service, and there's a lot of evidence out there on this. I'm stunned to say the least......
So, he makes an ad that will appeal to Christians and it turns out to be a Christian streaming service. How the hell are you surprised and how the hell does this make it a scam?
CelticVictory It’s because he never said that it’d be a Christian streaming service. He marketed it as a family friendly streaming service, which doesn’t mean it’ll be a Christian streaming service. He left out the detail that it would be a Christian streaming service.
Lmao he didn’t inform backers that it was going to be a Christian platform. The comments are now spammed with “I would like a refund for $X as I no longer support this”. And now asking 50m for first stage haha.
I love how one parent puts a movie for the family, but realizes that the movie was pretty much rated R and thinks that it was the media. Oh my, I wonder who's fault was it.
Alexander The Not As Great woah don’t even think about forming your hand in the shape of something that’s resembles a gun or we’ll be forced to neutralize your arm
Back in my day, we just got kids a VHS of their favorite stuff we browsed together. Well, I'm talking about the era when I was the kid, but the point is that it takes like 2 hours of parenting to isolate a series the kid likes, then you get a Blu-ray boxset or playlist of that show. Repeat once a week, at the most.
"we are entertainers, not babysitters" "we create content, not pander them" "we are not obligated to pander to your children" like seriously, some people go apeshit because their kids send their parents to retirement homes. if parents couldn't atleast spend a few minutes with the kids, why should we be obligated? you treat your kids the way you want to be treated when you're senile *end of discussion*
why else do you think none of his other pitches have worked out, why networks havent picked him up he doesnt understand the industry or the audience anymore. He isnt adapting
"kid loved The Exorcist" what did they like, the cinematography, the script, character progression, pacing of the story, the outdated "scary movie tropes" gimme a break
Butch Hartman is an openly devout Christian. I think a lot of cartoons/kids shows lately have been getting into topics and ideals that don't align with traditional Christian values (i.e. same-gender couples and things like that), so I have to imagine that Butch's "family-friendly" vision will screen for and censor that kind of content. But maybe not, who knows. It's not like this will actually come to pass so we may never know u///u
OK, here's the thing where I believe it crosses the line. He can be a openly religious guy in this type of industry without trying to hinder quality for the sake of family-friendly content, opposing the more recent changes to how shows bring in more radically expansive ideas on that type of subject. The thing is, the moment he pushes in some sort of biased agenda that a lot of those other shows unfortunately strive for (like Steven Universe's horrible excuse of glorifying a one-side viewpoint on how sex is depicted in the most inappropriate way possible), that's where all odds are off. I don't mean subtle references to the religion, I'm talking flat out Davey and Goliath-levels of pushing bullshit that makes the show unwatchable. That's how you kill your career.
I absolutely love how all Butch Hartman videos from ~2 years ago start with something like "I really respect this guy and I love his stuff and he's a great artist but there a few things he did that didn't go perfectly" And the newer videos all go "let's all laugh at this talentless fucking hack for half an hour"
Madzlick Chinatown "family morals"...do you mean like homopbobia? Or not letting your kids watch adult content cause then you've got content warnings and parenting
It seems today that all you see is violence in movies and sex on TV, but where are those good old-fashioned values in which we used to rely? Lucky there's Butch Hartman, the out of touch dad joke of the Internet.
I especially loved the part where you said you still respect Butch Hartman. He's still an amazing artist and animator who's influenced all of our lives. But yeah, this idea is very far-fetched. Especially since his core fan base is mostly people in their early 20s who don't have a family to worry about or money to give to him. I bet most parents don't even know who he is.
TonesBalones Oaxis isn't meant to appeal to his core fan base though. It's an entertainment platform meant to interest people who care for family-friendly content.
I think I'd rather them watch the porn. You'd get about the same amount of distorted perceptions of real world scenarios. I watched a Pureflix movie once where the morale was for the abused housewife to, rather than seek divorce, hide in a closet and pray until her abusive husband magically stops being abusive.
Lovely Lauren i saw a horror movie and was traumatized for over 10 years, being completly unable to sleep without a childrens toy that played music and hiding, constantly waking up in the middle of the night screaming. It wasn't even a good horror movie. But I was a very easy to impress kid. It had a scary concept of being taken away from your family and turned into stone. The concept burned itself into my mind, it was so incredibly scary and from there on I developed an extreme fear of death which still haunts me to this day. But I know I'm more of a special case, as the other kids were fine watching it, while I was hiding. I'm such a petite flower, it seems.
Lovely Lauren I saw all Saw movies in the unrated version when i was like twelve and i was cool with it. But later i saw the fly and was pretty disturbed. I think that the atmosphere is many times scarier than the gore in (good) horror movies.
I feel like Butch is gonna be in for a rude awakening trying to sell this to any kid over maybe 8. There is always a market for absurd cartoons like ren and stimpy but ren and stimpy worked because it was somewhat adult. Just making a gross incomprehensible show for the sake of making something "appealing to kids" doesn't work on the older ones. Basically, he's probably gonna make a bunch of really, really safe trite thats not gonna interest most kids. Popular cartoons now tend to be much darker, at least more mature, than Butch's nick era of episodic content. Plus I feel like the controversial aspects of most cartoons now are NOT gonna fly on his network. So no Steven Universe esque pushing the envelope for canon gay relationships, no over the garden wall level "holy shit this is for kids" factor, no gravity falls dark overlying story, no adventure time philosophical mindfuckery. Basically, all the cool shit to an extent.
Which brings up a major problem of the "family friendly" angle. Total Drama in Canada is considered a kids show. Yet it has swearing (albeit censored) and the occasional uncovered boobs (also censored behind a black bar). But in the U.S. it got kicked up to the tv equivalent of PG-13. So even between neighboring countries and cultures. What's "ok for kids" is all over the place.
Moonlight150 in Japan, all Shounen Jump IPs are for kids like Dragon Ball, Naruto, Original YuGiOh, One Piece, Tokyo Ghoul, Saint Seyia/Knights of the Zodiacs YYH, etc
Finally a platform where I can leave my kids in control while I do my proper job of smoking weed and drinking all day long. Butch I expect you to be able to teach my kids to be able to have them pay for my lifestyle once they are old enough.
Charlie don’t you get it? You said it yourself, he opened Pandora’s Box. Butch Hartman and a box? No way that’s a coincidence. Butch Hartman has clearly been possessed by the Box Ghost, who still has Pandora’s box. That’s why all this is happening.

Everyone has their own preference on where they draw the line, and god forbid parents have to put actual effort into raising a human being. How about actually trying to gently transition your kid into the real world, how about actually being there for your kid when theu discover his/her limits and supervising what the kid does all the while giving enough personal space to let them develop on their own and become their own person. Lazy parents are very high on my list of people that piss me off, and so many types of services actually trying to hand hold those lazy parents instead of letting them realise what shitty job they are doing, ugh. Sorry, this topic kind of hits me right in my sensitive spots, good video Charlie.
I find that people these days try to avoid blaming anything on actual people as much as they can. The cause of shootings is the gun, the cause of obesity is the food, or as you see here, the cause of kids seeing innapropriate content on tv is the media. Nobody blames the shooter, the fat person, or the parents. So of course, you end up seeing stuff like this that tries to fix a problem by treating a single symptom, instead of doing anything about the root cause.
Probably because most of these problems are more three dimensional than that and people are realizing this. Shootings can be factored by mental health, gun control including unregulated online sells, family environment, traumas, schools, social networks who harbor such ideology. Obesity by poverty, environment, capitalism (cheap corn syrup byproducts, cheap sugars/carbs, vs more expensive proteins, fibers, GMO-free labeled shit) upbringing, mental illness, medical illness, familial history. Blaming the person implies that this person is inherently flawed and that the person and by proxy the rest of us is free from influences. Trying to understand why and how these things happen is more important. Also any kind of nutritional therapist or dietician can tell you that obesity epidemic has many many layers and therapy can help with accepting responsibility, addressing factors and personal behavior, learning coping mechanisms, self control, etc to combat weight related issues. You don’t put blame on the person you give a helping hand to learn how to cope with the issue at hand
@@Bettersucksaul right? they must really just wanna beat a kid until it stops crying with that kind of "attack the person for their behavior and not acknowledge why it happened" outlook lol
Butch is like when you show your grandparents a movie like avengers or smth and they think it’s evil because it has “supernatural stuff” and “scary villains/characters” even though it’s just some purple dude with a big Chin and has a funny looking glove.
So, it's an independently-fuelled video sharing and hosting website, where the only content that's allowed, published and promoted is content aimed specifically at a family friendly audience with a demographic of children in mind, and the site won't tolerate or feature any lewd or mature material. *Isn't that site called RU-vid?*
Well, it raised $268,134 and the project is still on-going. The latest updates was from Jan 2019 where he said he blew the money to film a show for the network but mentioned nothing about actually building the platform. He also said he's looking for someone to help him out by investing in the order of $50M. A year later I doubt he got anyone to invest in this at all. So yeah, this is once again a tax on the stupid.
Isn't desensitisation the other way around? I watched John Wick a few weeks ago and didn't enjoy it nearly as much as I would have if I watched it years ago. The reason: I watched The Raid. The fights and action in that movie (and its sequel) were so good that it made John Wick's weaker in comparison. So wouldn't the child enjoy The Exorcist *less* if they were desensitised to horror considering horror is the main appeal?
Well does violence have to be horribly gruesome to be written well into a story? I think you can be desensitized to horror if a persons idea of that is just a bunch of gross blood and stuff. But a horror story can be written well without using all of that stuff to carry it. I think it is really bad how many writers just write stuff for shock and don't focus on the story or the characters at all. But I guess some people are into that. But I think the main point Butch was getting at is that it is concerning that children are already desensitized to so much violence. And I do think there is something to say about the way violence is so normalized in our culture. But I don't think this entertainment thing is a good idea at all...mostly because it is already a thing
TyphoonZebra Wow, I just watched the Raid a couple weeks ago and I noticed how much of the violent actions scenes inspired the John Wick movies. I still love both of these movies by the way
When someone like Bitch Fartman says "family friendly," what they actually mean is "no positive depictions of LGBT people or characters allowed." They just say "family friendly" to avoid getting called out like the cowards they are, and because they view any positive LGBT content as inherently inappropriate no matter how mild and non-sexual it is. Though if they can be used for a cheap laugh, then he might allow it. He ignored the many questions about whether Oaxis would be LGBT friendly on purpose.
Even before looking at the Kickstarter page, these were my thoughts exactly the second he said, "but let's keep it CLEAN" with that condescending expression and tone. An earlier comment suggested that video of a subscriber's gay wedding likely wouldn't make it past the filter and I'd bet they are right. I suspect there would be a moratorium on 'heavy' subjects such as mental health or religion, or, as you mention in your comment, only allowed if a cheap laugh can be had. Bad vibes all round.
The fact that he mentioned original content makes me think he's not going to use the money to buy shows, but instead go to the crafts store and make a bunch of sock puppets so that he can film every show himself.
The Trashiest Trash He had his misses but you should be thankful that he made it so you can like it in the first place. I thought you were making a reference to spongebob and you were gonna say "NO but are we just gonna stand here in till he does"
Reminds me of that classic Simpsons episode where they made Itchy and Scratchy less violent. Lemonade? ....Please. What if one of his shows doesn't meet the standards of this new thing? Would be ironic.
2022 Update for anyone interested: He somehow made $268K from this Kickstarter. His Twitter hasn’t been updated in two years, save for the bio of “You can’t criticize me.” Last year, some tweets emerged of an ‘Early Access’ version of Oaxis. From what’s available, it appears to be some RU-vid Kids videos with a few cartoons and Among Us DoucheTubers. However, these aren’t even available to watch, only to browse. His official website has a nice timeline of “2018: I stole a quarter of a million dollars from you fuckers.” all the way to “2019: Creating and Developing the platform.” with a vague “Streaming Service Coming Soon” Amazing that he can use that much money to buy the rights for two DoucheTuber videos and a lengthy three-year development with no end in sight.
if it actually was funded and was launched all that would be uploaded is fortnite trick shots and obese middle aged men and women dressing up as spiderman and elsa.
I also watched Alien when i was like 7 - 8 and enjoyed the shit out of it and it started me down a path watching loads of horror my parents stopped caring an supporting me as i kept finding ways to steal the VHS's an it's lead to want to work in the films/games industry it set me on a course finding what i loved early. An i also loved his cartoons so maybe they made me a monster ;o!
"You gotta be snorting coke off of Danny Phantom's Thermos." lmao Also I love how you are just completely roasting him because, yeah, you're right, he's basically back-pedaling and it's really sad.
