Is my math wrong? The all beef classic box is $129. Which puts that beef somewhere in the range of $11.72 to $16.12 per pound depending on the particular box (8 -11 pounds). All the stuff coming out of the box looks branded and transported from all over the country. Even by the standards of buying grass fed non gmo meat, $11.72 per pound is very steep.

This is a great idea in theory for a smaller family. This just isn’t affordable for a family of 6! That wouldn’t be a months worth of meals for us & @$129 month! It just doesn’t work for my family. I’ve been looking for something like this & have yet to find something a bit more affordable & for a large family.
According to my calculations, since she did shy away from answering the question, is roughly $12 to $14 a pound. No thanks. (20 meals @ 5 to 8 ounces each, I used 7 as my average ounce per meal weight. 140 ounces divided by 16 (ounces in a pound) = 8.75 pounds of meat. $129 divided by 8.75 = $14.42 dollars a pound) That is a hard sell.
There are hidden deals in there.. But its mostly about quality and the humane blah blah.. I only get the top-end steak cuts like ribeyes, ny strips etc, and the pork chops are the best. Its almost pointless to get any chicken or basic-cuts in my opinion, but Im not trying to feed a family or on a budget. I just want good tasting food that wasnt locked in a cage its whole life.

Unfortunately cannot take advantage of the offer but we get really good quality beef this side which is mostly grass fed. I tend to go direct to source and buy a cow which then goes to block man who cuts it up into all different cuts including ground beef then we split it up between 8 families. It works out cheaper thus way. I love your channel as in my neck of the woods we do have much in the way of convenience foods so it is all cooking from scratch with loads of fresh fruit and vegetables. So all cooking is seasonal
Yeah, that’s about $50 worth of meat at my local store, with me paying for the bacon. I buy all grass fed and all of that jazz and it’s nowhere near that expensive at all! I saw an add for this box and thought I would look up reviews. I like the concept though. The price is just ridiculous, I get in order to turn a profit that there has to be a mark up. I’d rather just take 20 minutes and run through the store. I agree with your veg heavy meals and treating meat as a side though, I’ve been telling people that for years! It’s good on the body and the wallet:)
Just purchased my first mix box from Butcher Box. Found the $15 off code. I don't eat a great deal of meat, so I ordered delivery every other month. Quality is what I am looking for. I may eat 1 oz of meat cooked in stuffed peppers or cooked bacon on top of salad. Just want to get that good protein without all the garbage in the meat.

I would of gotten butcher box but when I found out that it was like $150+ for the box for just 10lbs of meat, I was like screw that, went to a butcher near my town who has the same exact stuff plus other animals like duck, boar ect and everything was $5 a lb so we spent $200 worth and got 40lbs of meat....I live in Missouri that's how we do it... Plus I hunt and get wild game given to me, which is the best ever... And in the Midwest it's easy to get organic from everywhere, and wild, so if you do Paleo, carnivore... Whatever diet you on, or just want to eat healthy, then the Midwest is your spot.

Love your Clean and Delicious videos! Regarding the Butcher Box, it's just my husband and myself, how many pounds is the average package of meat? The chicken thighs seemed to be quite large for 2 people. Dani, thank you for all you do.
better off buying a 1/4 side for $700 which gives 90-100 lbs. plus the bones, liver, Fat, tongue and liver for the dogs. I'm organizing a group buy for 4 1/4s to get even better prices. That is enough for 5-6 months for my home of 2 plus 4 small dogs. I do however really like that bag to lol

I want to try the Butcher box because I find it hard to find quality meats at standard grocery stores but it's just me. Can you refreeze uncooked meat? For example if I want to only make half of the portion but need to thaw it in order to separate. I don't freeze items much so this is new to me. I usually use meat the same week. Thanks.
If you thaw the meat in the refrigerator you can refreeze the uncooked meat, but not if it is left out of the fridge more than 2 hours. Good question!!

I just found this vid by chance but didn't realize it was you. :) I wanted to know what in the world this product was because there was an ad beside a recipe vid I was watching that was Butcherbox. Also fyi I made your Banana Oat Muffins and they were a big hit with people that I know! (I also added some toasted coconut to the tops of them).
Excellent share Dani! I know this could be cost prohibitive for some, yet I believe with the 'quality over quantity' approach, this could be doable for most any of us. The food budget can remain the same even, with some simple adjustments, especially if we mostly "eat in". We tend to eat small portions, more often and keep the produce star of the show~following a similar pattern as what you mentioned in this post. That being said, if my husband occasionally wants to eat an entire 10 oz steak in one sitting, I will cook him that steak! The rest of the day he will happily enjoy greens, fruits and good carb-maybe a protein shake thrown in there somewhere for good measure:) It truly is a matter of balance and preference~ but never sacrifice, we don't have to! I love that you continue to reinforce this way of preparing and eating. It's so great that there are increasing options for sourcing superior meats these days, just keeps getting better and better=) Thanks for this~ have a great week! XO Sammie
Just a quick word of encouragement, from someone married to a devout carnivore; this is way easier than people may think. My husband has said that he had no idea how much he liked vegetables, until we really began showcasing them in our meals~possibilities are endless! This from a man who owns a t-shirt w/a giant red T-bone plastered across the front, which says: "You Don't Win Friends With Salad"! Another one he has says; "Bacon~Yet Another Way I Know Jesus Loves Me" The man loves meat, and now, especially so that he knows & tastes the difference in quality. Buying a bit less of far better quality meats has been one of the best changes we've made. Ok, enough said~ just got excited when I saw the video title=)

Clean & Delicious i was actually doing the math and this box with a locally grown veggie farmers box would save my family money on groceries. Right now we kind of spend sporadically and this would greatly improve on costs i think. We also eat our meats as our side and veggies as our main. The only thing we would have to buy seperate are fish and the small stuff. I cant seem to find a good fish box at a decent enough price but I wouldnt mind going out to get fish, i love shopping for food anyway. So excited to hear about this. Butcher Box is almost certainly a better way to go than buying meat at the local supermarket. Or, worse yet, fast food and processed 'heat and serve' options. Better yet - look for family owned and operated farms in your region who are raising 100% 'grass-fed' meats to feed their own families and their communities. The best of these farmers are sequestering carbon and building soil fertility by restoring the natural relationship between the pasture plants, soil life, and the livestock. It easy to forget that plants cannot thrive without herbivores! The grazing and browsing prunes the plants, prevents oxidation of nutrients to the air, and feeds the soil - which feeds the plants. Look for farmers who are passionate about what they are doing - and who avoid the use of added hormones, chemical pest control, and use grazing management to increase the yield of their pastures while controlling weeds - naturally. This approach allows the animals to thrive naturally. If you order half of whole animals, many of these farmers can still arrange custom processing of your meats including wrapping in butcher paper. If your freezer is working properly, meats wrapped in paper can stay in good condition for a very long time! Our family used to take about a year to eat a whole beef steer, but we have had beef wrapped in paper that was over 5 years old an it was perfectly preserved! The temperature of the freezer was around 0F, and there was no defrost cycle to warm things up. (The freezer was unplugged and cleaned once a year before the next beef was processed. Since that freezer was only openned breifly about once a week, not having a defrost cycle was no problem. It was much cheaper to run, too!)
The company states this is 20 meals (12 pkgs somehow being 20 meals) but understand this is "individual" meals, not family meals. So 1 box will equal the protein serving of 4 or 5 dinners and 1 or 2 breakfasts for a couple or small family - not even a full week and doubtful even 20 individual portioned meals. Perhaps they should stop stating number of meals and be more realistic/upfront by stating 10 oz of pork, 2 lbs ground beef, 8 oz ribeye, etc., at the premium $129 price.

I have only tried pastured raised farms via local farmers markets - which are also great. I like the convenience of BB, especially in the winter when our farmers markets go away.

Hi Dani, I just found out about your channel and I love it. You are so sensible. I have gone to two different nutritionists and one said vegan is the best way to lose weight and the other said lean meat was the best way. You seem to approach food sensible, clean and healthy. Question- I know grass fed beef is a better option, but what about chicken? How do you know if that isn't grain fed, etc.? Thanks!!
This is intruding! At first I was like that's expensive but here in SF I go to the butcher and if I add that up it comes out way more expensive. They only thing is I don't like to freeze my meat. Also where does the meat come from?
In California the boxes are shipped from Tracy, just a little southeast of you. I'm getting my first ButcherBox from there today so I'm curious to see if the Left Coast heritage pork and grass fed & finished beef is as good as what they use in their Right Coast videos.
Only thing I take issue with is implying grain fed meat is somehow terrible for you and the environment. Now adding other chemicals and hormones to meat is one thing, but because something is fed on grain doesnt make it any less healthy
This is a terrible service. The meat quality is merely adequate, the customer service terrible and they have no respect for the animals. I am a meat eater, I love animals. I only buy grass fed, cage-free, etc. Butcherbox has no respect for their product, nor the animals.
It sucks that if you want to feed yourself and small family meats that aren't full of drugs you need to spend a small fortune. These portions would feed a family of four for maybe 10 days at most.
You say don't use plastic grocery bags (that can be reused as garbage bags etc) yet all that plastic and packing that comes in that box just goes in the trash....
I just try to make an effort to use as little plastic as possible. My intentions are good. If find good uses for the plastic bags - more power too you! I'm no trying to cut anyone down - just sharing what I know.

Are you somehow suggesting that she's now responsible for how the company has decided to package their product? Ummm there’s this thing called Recycling ♻️ ..... sometimes you can’t control everything. But you Can make better choices. Use+ reuse +reuse +reuse and recycle.
Great thought on "meat as a side dish" :) that's the healthy way to go. No need for extremes, just an understanding (and acting upon) the fact that Western has been abusing on quantity (and from there derived bad quality) meat. I'd also rather eat a bit of really good meat (and pay its price) every now and again, then just senseless jam low quality meat in high quantities into my body. Love thy selves people! :D

Dani, i love and respect you so much i'm vegan and i really think it's awesome you're trying to get a better meat option with grass fed animals etc, do what's feels good for you but unfortunately regardless of if the animals aren't injected with hormones or if they are grass fed, the act of eating animals just isn't necessary for our human survival anymore.. anyways i am never trying to attack you or anyone i just wanted to give my share real quick, and vegetarian is always an AMAZING option if vegan is too extreme for you never forget it! "isn't necessary for our human survival" ... true, but I (and many other people) find that I feel much better when eating meat a few times per week. I think it will be quite some time before we figure out what a meat-less diet does to the human body (good or bad). Until then, I am going to stick to what we've been doing for thousands of years, and eat meat. No hostility from me. I wish you the best, Autumn :)
Ideally, people should eat less or no meat from cattle, swine, birds, and fish, and switch to animal-based meat alternatives, like arthropods, mollusks, and worms or plant-based meat alternatives, like soy or pea protein faux meat, while occasionally savoring a chicken that once grew up on one's own backyard. Maybe everyone should keep a pet chicken at home and let the chicken eat the kitchen scraps. If the chicken is a hen, then she can lay eggs every day or week or month; and when she dies, her body will be consumed by her human owners or human owners' dog or cat. Such a scenario will still allow people eating chicken, but instead of the factory farm, the raising of chickens for meat and eggs is de-centralized. Not sure how much resources that will consume, though.
Kiwi - you make some good points. However, purchasing beef, pork, sheep/lamb, and other meats alpaca, chevon/cabrito, buffalo or bison, etc) raised on pasture with no grain, added hormones, drugs or synthetic chemicals can actually REGENERATE lands and plant communities damaged by industrial ag methods, or other extractive/damaging land uses. Look around for a small-scale family-owned farm in your region that restores the natural relationship between plants, soil life, and the animals that prune the plants through grazing and browsing. Together, all three communities thrive! Sadly, companies like Butcher Box make it more difficult for small, family owned farms to make a living.
