Potato and salted fish is glorious, timeless, international. So good with potato.....all of your reviews could low key include potato in one way or another and win more.
Cool vid as always ^^ We have these in Belgium. Simply run the unopened box under hot water to defrost the butter before the pan. It works well also with a good piece of bread ++
I'm definitely gonna try this combo dines on mash (many times I will just eat the dines from the can with chopsticks). Fishermans pie in uk kind of the mashed potato on top of the white fish and often placed under the grill to get the mashed potato a little brown. Other variations of things under mash in the uk include Cottage pie (basically bolognaise sauce with mash on top - uk food purists can fight me on this one) and shepherds pie (minced lamb toped with mashed potato ). I enjoy your videos MC, looking forward to trying some dines in butter if I can find them anywhere.
These are some of my favorites. I have found that just dunking the whole tin in hot water is 95% as good as frying them and takes less effort. Sometimes I add blanched greenbeans to the party.
I found this channel by accident and I hate sardines with a passion so I'm only watching this crazed person eating sardines and seemingly enjoying them so I don't ever have to !
@jrmybrtltt no lol I guarantee everyone who likes sardines already likes "weird" seafood stuff like sushi, sashimi, molusks, etc. Some people just can't get past the fishy smell of sardines, or the spine, or the textures. And that's just fine! More for me and keeps the prices down lol
Yes Fisherman's pie is a thing here in the UK and its delicious!.. its mainly made with cod I have never heard of one being made with deenz before ...why dont you give it a try!
Now, my question is... Can you take any Sardine packed in Oil, drain the oil into a pan, add some butter, garlic and parsley and then fry up your 'Dines slightly and drizzle the olive and butter and garlic and parsley over them 'Dines and some Mashed Taters??????? or rice, or..... noodlesssss..... Yeah, its doable. I've done it a few times, and I'll do it again and NONE OF YOU CAN STOP ME! Seriously heat up the Rugen Fisch Fried Herring in Spicy Marinade and pour it over a good Spinach and Iceberg Salad with tiny tomatoes and fresh sweet onion, its solidly good.
Stock fish (dried cod) garlic, olive oil (or butter) and mashed potatoes are a big thing in Italy and Spain, I believe the French have a version too. You are right on target here.
Another excellent canned fish video, man. Have you ever done a video on the basics of sardines? Like what is a bristling? What is a pilchard? Why did the Beatles reference Semolina Pilchard in I Am The Walrus? Etc.
Don’t worry it’s B B best before not use by so if they look/ taste and smell ok he’ll be fine. Great channel by the way and all the best from England 😁👍
Okay I know you were all "let's not assume that English people eat fish pie" but fish pie is one of the best things on the planet and yes, it is fish (usually cod, haddock, salmon and prawns) mixed in a Parsley sauce and then topped with mashed potatoes and baked. Like a fishy cottage pie. But, it's fish pie. And it slaps.
its the circle of life a swim into the warm sea of butter to find refuge in the shallow pools of mashed potato island only to be devoured by the local "a-fishy-anado" along with the whole potato island as well as the sea of butter
Why am i watching this, with a beer and a joint, having just stocked up... I cant go back to the store for more canned fish tomorrow... Wife wont understand...
I know you mostly do Sardines, but canned tuna and salmon is really good too. Chicken of the sea tuna is my fav, and recently found King Oscar lemon salmon which was excellent .
Leveling your stove is one of the banes in life. Betcha didnt know a fridge has adjustable legs and if it isnt juust right the door wont swing closed when you let go.
Stargazey pie is a thing in the UK. Made with whole deens, pastry and butter. The fish are arranged in a whirl on a pastry base, in a pie plate with their heads on the edge so the head oil runs back into the pie. The centre is covered with more pastry leaving the heads uncovered, peeking out, hence the Star-gazey bit.
I just weighed a can of chub mackerel, to find out how much the actual fish inside weighed. On the label it says 15 oz. The results: The entire thing, can and all, before opening it, weighed 17.7 oz. The empty can alone weighed 2.2 oz. The contents of the can (including the liquid) weighed 15.5 oz. After draining the liquid and rinsing, I weighed the fish portion itself, alone - 8.3 oz. So that's not much more than half the weight listed on the label (0.8 oz over half, which isn't a lot). If I had patted the fish with a paper towel to remove the residual water after rinsing, it would have been much closer to half, possibly sightly less. So I'll just say it was about half the weight listed on the label. I'm going to weigh some canned salmon next. It seemed more tightly packed than this mackerel (which was Bumble Bee brand) last time I had it. We'll see. 👍
I’ve been heating up sardines packed in water the same way dump the water and throw the dines in a pan with butter, hot sauce and lemon. Ever tried with mashed potatoes but probably will tomorrow.
brilliant! never had a level stove in NYC! LOFL! Looks like a great product - will need to get some of these new wave sardines....Hello Kitty! I have a dog from germany and man does he go crazy for leberwurst liver sausage - which he was given as a snack when he was a baby puppy - will test him with cod liver...
I’m still amazed that he has cats and yet they’re not constantly crawling all over him trying to get the deens. I guess they’re either super chill or he locks them in another room while he’s filming. I have one highly food motivated cat that would be bursting through doors like a furry little kool-aid man if I didn’t give her a portion of my fish.
The front feet on your stove should be adjustable. You can screw them up and down to level the stove. May be easier to access by removing the bottom drawer if present.
