Butterfly Bush - Buddleia - Buddleja - Growing tips for Buddleja davidii 

Butterfly bush is fantastic as a nectar source for all varieties of butterflies and other pollinators. There are sterile varieties for sale now that are non-invasive and come in various sizes. I have several, and they are always covered in pollinators during their long bloom season. Of course I have native plants in my garden as well, including many host plants.

I would not be upset if my butter fly bush spread to multiple locations in my yard I think they are absolutely gorgeous and they give off such a lovely fragrance when they flower..I get all types of humming birds, bees, butter fly, and other pollinating insects coming into my yard which gives my vegetable garden a boost..I know they call it an invasive species but to me its a good thing in some areas because it provides food to all the pollenating friends humans need around in order to grow food. We already have a shortage of honey bees so I think they should plant these everywhere to give our eco system a boost. I cant imagine a beautiful plant like this being listed as a negative invasive species yet some states they have laws about these plants. 🤔

Thank goodness you mentioned it's likelyhood to take over native species. It seems as though no one takes that into consideration anymore. I work at a native plant nursery where I go and collect native seed from different sites. The amount of areas that have become riddled with invasive species is so sad

Thanks for the information on the Butterfly Bush, I've had one or two in my yard for years now and the only thing I always see is praying mantis cocoons are always on it. Can you tell me what the best time of year is for taking cuttings? I took 3 in fall and one lived, I was thinking it was the wrong time of year.

Does he do it every spring? Cutting down?

hi i was wondering after a flower is pollenated does the flower produce a seed/seeds?? i take cuttings but they never root and just die
