I planted 3 butterfly bushes this year and would love to do this to make more for my garden. I don’t have a green house or sun porch where I could overwinter them, and you mention often that you can overwinter cuttings in a shady protected area in your garden, but I’m curious about what winters are like in Denmark? I live on Long Island in New York (zone 7B ) and we can sometimes have some very harsh winters. Would I do better in a south facing window indoors if we have a very snowy season?

In our area of Denmark we're like zone 8a... so quite similar to you. We're on the coast... that makes our winters not as severe as some places here. If you take your cuttings now, you can easily leave them outdoors... even in winter. But if you are concerned, then yes... bring them in. They won't mind at all. But for us... ours get the rest of summer and autumn to establish roots... then we leave them in the pots until next spring. :)

I have a miniature plant in my garden. There doesn't appear to be many butterflies (or bees) around this year. Is it the same in Denmark?

Isn't this super invasive in most of the USA?
@perennial-garden
@perennial-garden 2 месяца назад
Not sure. It’s a good idea to check with your extension office though. Here in Denmark, it’s not invasive.

Excellent video on explaining the propagation procedure to get more butterfly bushes. It is time to trim the spent flowers from the large mother butterfly bush in my front yard. I do that several times in summer months. I sometimes get volunteer Butterfly bushes and give them away to friends. Here is a short video of a butterfly bush in my front yard where a Zebra Swallowtail butterfly found the flowers in July. I also get lots of other types of butterflies and insects, but the Zebra Swallowtail is rare and my favorite. Paw Paw tree/shrub is the host to Zebras. I planted one this year that is quite small, but there must be other Paw Paw trees/shrubs in the neighborhood. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-70Mi6XyKVJA.html
