Welcome to our garden. We're Allen and Lars Wildes. In our videos, you’ll find ideas, garden inspiration and perennial-growing tips from 2 guys (& our son) who have grown more plants than their neighbours consider normal.
We'll give you a look at what we've got growing and how we're going about keeping our little garden thriving here in Denmark (zone 8).
Bacardi is one of our favorites too 💚 We dig them up and store them for the winter. We show how we do it here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UFl5zeiDlbM.htmlsi=v-FcNHPjqTjW_5x0 Thanks so much for watching 💚
Wow your garden is beautiful ! I enjoyed watching your video. I am from Massachusetts USA and am just really getting into gardening. Hopefully someday I will have at least a small area as beautiful as you two have done
Hello to Massachusetts 💚. Hope you’re having good gardening weather at least! Thanks so much for watching our video and commenting. Big hello from Denmark 🇩🇰
I’ve only just recently found your site and I’m loving it so much. My garden is very shady so seeing the beautiful plants you are growing is so lovely. Thank you for your tips and ideas.
They take a while to flower - so they may still come with flowers. If your soil is too nitrogen rich, or the area too shady, they may not - but you’ll get foliage. They prefer sunshine.
It seems you grow several perennial plants I am not familiar with in the U.S. I often copy the name and look it up after the video. Thanks for sharing.
ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GN9RbKQ2x7M.html = LOL lol ... The abrupt end of the noisy messy background piano 😆 But seriously, oh my GOOD-NESS! Your talent & skills and the garden as the result are amazing & inspirational. The mix and variation of textures, colors, blooming times are just carefully put together. This is one of the best butterfly - cottage - perennial gardens I have seen in this platform 💚💜❤🧡 💛💙
ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GN9RbKQ2x7M.html = ".. The Sylvelstris VIOLENTLY coming out of the ground ... " LOL 🤣 PS: Oh, I made tons of mistakes too in our butterfly/perennial garden - wrong color combos, mistake height & compositions, sunny vs. shade plants and so on! When this happened, I could not sleep at night thinking about it and if I could fix them without killing the plants 😷
That poor song. We edited in a different one, but RU-vid made us remove it and use one of their 'allowed' songs -- so we just had to stick it in... no way to fade out, etc. OH WELL 🤣
So many beautiful plants! I have some of them, like Åkeleje, and never knew what to plant around it, but now I know. I love the Saxifraga, and it is a must-have for me this year. Thanks for all the great grouping tips. I love the fact, that now I don't have to be so strict about tall, medium, and all that. Plants have their ways of drawing attention to themselves, like that Heuchera. I bought one this year at Netto, and I just love the foliage. (They only had 1 left, æv.) I should also try the Geum, and Geranium. So my list is made up, thanks you wonderful gardeners.
You're so welcome! We don't pay too much attention about height, etc -- we'd rather the garden look quite 'natural' -- and if something is crazy tall or if something is crowding a smaller plant, we can always move it in the autumn to a better spot. (Lars already has a list of what needs to be moved.)
Wow everything is perfect. ❤ The perennial border, the morning light, the music oh my goodness I wish I was there having a cup of tea with you and you would show me around your garden and tell me about those lovely flowers. 🌺🌸🍀🌹🌷🍄
Hi, Yes cow parsley grows wild in the hedgerows almost everywhere. BUT ...not the variety you have in your garden with the dark stems. Well,I haven't seen it😅😊
Hello Your cottage garden plants are so healthy. Beautiful 😮. Another plant that I have in the garden. You are right. It is very resilient and comes up year after year👍👏👍

I've not grown this plant before but I sowed some Ammi Majus for the first time and they're now planted in the garden and growing away. Hoping for the height and the swaying that you got from your cow parsley.
Oh! There's always a snake in the park, and where there is 1, there's probably more close by. They don't think they are rude, and they always have bad days, they say those things, because they are "Nobs", Wannabees, etc. (Fru Hyacinth, fra Keeping Up Appearances). Claus Dalby is really "The Garden King" in Denmark. I watch him, and he also have videos in English. I love him, but can't understand how he can be so relaxed about Ground Elder (Skvalderkål). Beats me! I live between Give, and Billund, and we had slugs like crazy. 10 - 15 on a potato plant, and 2-3 on a strawberry. It was sickening to watch them all over the show. They ate all my baby plants, just after I planted it, the very first night. The next morning early I ran outside, and everything was just gone, and three of them still around. Then we declared war against them. The experts said there's like 10 times more, than usual (my own interpretation, and maybe exaggeration). So now there's not so many left. They eat Danish Liverpaté, rice, cat food, and even their own dead buddies.
We've had that same problem with slugs this year! And I'm glad that you agree that they're 10x worse than usual. It must be a scientific fact by now ;) We've been hunting them every morning and night all season. We had it OK during those warm weeks in May... but since then, it's been war! haha
@@perennial-garden LOL Yeah, let's go with the science. We use Ferramol this year, and if you try and get it, you may find that it's sold out, because people buy them as soon as they hit the shelves. I meet desperate gardeners every time I go to Jem & Fix (Fusk in my case), complaining about 500 slugs per night. We border on cornfields, and we've got millions out here. hahahahaha I got such a shock when I saw how they react to Ferramol, and took a video, because it looked like some eery horror movie. Plants versus Zombies. They literally stopped in their tracks, some with food in their mouths, and next morning they were gone, with stomach ache, and no taste for our plants. lol
@@TheSybil47 Then we'll going to get that! I'll see what Lars uses now... could be that. He buys it at Silvan and keeps boxes of it in the shed 😅 -- maybe he's the one buying it as soon as it hits the shelves! haha
I know you’re not a DJ taking requests, but would you consider making a video that is color coded 😂 like all purple flowers or all pink flowers. It would be nice to see all the plants in one grouping 🥰
