I love Flipnote Studio 3D but it's so basic. It's great for when you just want simple. But this looks so much better. I really want it. I also really need to get a bigger SD card first. >< Not being able to share pics easily online with Flipnote Studio 3D really sucked. Like with Swapnote a few bad apples spoiled it for everyone. So it's great that this will let you upload from the software to an online gallery. I hope no one abuses this either. Can we please have nice things?

Adrastia You should get this now, it is really small in size :) And yeah, I used to love flipnote studio back when the DSi was still a thing, hatena was so fun! I'm still angry at nintendo about them removing the online gallery on flipnote studio 3d just because they want to keep childrens safe...

holy crap. inchworm animation is my childhood. i started using it at 5 years old. i havent used it in years, neither have i heard anything about it. but i decide to come back and all of the sudden, my childhood is restored

Aw, I wish I'd known this was out- I loved inchworm animation and made a lot of stuff with it. It was actually my primary program for storyboarding for a while. L and R buttons don't work on my 3DS anymore so I wouldn't get this till I get a new one.

I bought the original on my 2DS, even though I already have flipnte 3D. I won't necessarily call it better, but that, as well as this one, still looks incredible.

awesome. I love the first nchworm, can't wait to use this. I just bought and downloaded it . Expect a review soon enough. one question though, why SWF export instead of MP4? Converting can be tough for some users. I'll happily use your gallery, but the free for all download is a little offputting, meaning some creations won't turn up in the gallery. No matter what, most anticipated app on 3ds, except maybe for the Korg apps, and with sound too. 👍🏼 Your fave user in Denmark, maybe Scandinavia, heck maybe Europe.

Hey geezerdk, SWF export is because it is easy to implement in software, whereas there is no MP4 exporter available for Nintendo. Also, the images are lossless quality. But if you want mp4 files, you only need to upload your movies to the gallery, and you can download them from there in MP4 format.

The only problem with that, is that everybody can download your films. I have access to all manner of Adobe, I'm sure that Flash can do the conversion for me. Thanks for the reply, and thanks for the awesome programs you make.

You can export SWF movies with sound, 3D .mpo image sequences or 2D .png image sequences. If you upload to the gallery then you can download an .mp4 file from there.

Hopefully before end of year. Next week the required French eManual translation will be done, then we will submit it. If it is approved, it takes about a month. If they reject it for some reason, the process is set back by ~2-3 weeks each time....

If you mean the trailer music it is "Funny Song" by Bensound. If you mean can you make music in Butterly -- you can record it through the microphone or make it rather laboriously using sound effects keyframes.

Hey, Bob is it possible to import our work from inchworm animation? I'm glad you guys added a real colour picker with red, green and blue number values, but is there a similar way to change the hue, saturaction and brightness? Like in Microsoft paint for example. Can't wait for this to come out in the UK, thanks man.

He sora3960, no I'm sorry Butterfly is just too different to be able to import old Inchworm files. In addition to the circular color palette, there is a separate screen palette which does use Hue Saturation and Value. Currently it does not have numerical values displayed however. We're working on getting it out in EU -- it keeps getting rejected for little issues. It's going back in for review today :)

Hey no worries. It says in the description "you can Import from Nintendo Camera / Export to SD" so shouldn't it be possible to export an inchworm file as a bitmap, change the file type to match the 3ds camera (png I think) , then import the new png file to Butterfly? Thanks for the reply and good luck getting this to EU.

Well yes if you are just wanting to import a single image you could probably do that. Or you could use video recording in Butterfly to record animation from Inchworm's screen :)

From the Main Menu, tap "Files" and then "Online Gallery". If you have not registered for an account yet, you will have to do that first.

How do you do frame by frame?

As long as you have a batch of cels on your layer, you just draw on a frame and step forward and with the D-Pad right and draw the next one. If you are choosing "Start from scratch" from the New menu, you are probably just getting one frame, which could cause trouble. Chase CZ it works differently than the first one. You are limited to 100 drawings which is not much but that is all that the memory can hold of full-color uncompressed images. However by using keyframes, changing the framerate, etc you can re-use drawings on different layers to make animations several minutes long. See some of the tutorials to see what I mean.

I just replied to your question on the other video. The limit is 100 drawings -- but you can re-use them and move them using keyframes to make videos that are several minutes long. So it works differently than the first one.
